New companion drop rate is adversely effecting companions purchased with trade bars.

fatherrockfatherrock Member Posts: 12 Arc User
Everyone seems to like the new very generous drop rate on rare
green level companions.

Except for folks that had to get those same companions for 800 trade bars
and now they are essentially vendor trash.

I think if the 'rare' green version of a companion now drop easy that at least
they could raise the quality of the trade bar versions to blue or purple.

When you change drop rates, it effects many many things.

Who cares... all my trade bar companions are basically consolation prizes for failing to get an epic or legendary mount from lock boxes. So what?

Green companions need another 750k AD to get them to purple.
    Well played, Cryptic.
On top of that many companion drops are BtA, meaning you might buy a companion stable enlargement.
    Another smart move from Cryptic.

IMO we already see how keygate and the new rate of drops (not only for companions) influence the ZAX - we moved away from the 500AD:1Z ceiling.

I suspect double RP may have played a small role in the ZAX flip flop.. Give it a day, maybe 2 it'll go back up.

I think there were double RP before where the ZAX remained rock solid at 500.

There were some where the backlog would go down but not dissipate entirely.

They were horrifically overpriced on TB store anyway.

I really wonder how much dropping companions in dungeons is impacting their Zen sales.

I'd also agree that t-bar companions were overpriced for what you get. Basically an "only if there is no other way" option.

I think the "Green" companions are 1200 bars if I remember correctly. Should be no more than 300 or 400 bars

Without having the numbers in front of me, I want to say 1200 is a green artifact, and companions are 800.

The drop rates are definitely affecting value, on both companions and artifacts, and not just in relation to T-bars.

I remember when the Token of Chromatic Storm artifact was very expensive to buy when it first came out (I seem to remember it being priced in the millions of AD). Now it's dropping like crazy from the current lockbox, and at blue level no less - you can get a blue level Token for well under 75K AD on the AH.

The T-Bar economy is pretty much shot to ####. The value of artifacts and companions doesn't equal the cost of T-bars needed to acquire them now. Even T-bar purple mounts, which cost 2400 T-bars, are getting cheap enough on the AH that it renders using the T-bars pointless. I only use them now to buy purple enchants during double RP events and (when I'm in a mood) on fashion sets and dyes for alts.

Sadly however your STATEMENT that you claim they drop very frequently is FAR from the truth! They actually drop rarely, and the blue companions far more rare, and EPIC practically ever drop at ALL--I think the way they designed the reward payout in Dungeon's was very well designed. It's not too much but just enough to keep people working thru campaign area's they've previously finished to earn additional campaign currencies either for their GUILD or to buy CAMPAIGN KEYS in addition to buying EPIC DUNGEON key's.

Still I do see your point and THINK that would be far better to address if the one's in the TRADE bar Store should be at least the very minimum Rare quality or even EPIC so generally they were at least one quality higher than those dropping from dungeon's and only in very rare cases of similar quality but those EPIC companion drop's from dungeon's occur far & wide apart and only earned in 2000-2500+ GS dungeon's.

However you must remember that Cryptic said related to the dungeon drop changes it was far more important to offer viable reward's than maintaining the higher cost for some item's on the Auction. While I do fully agree with that notion and fully support it I still stand by my statement in the earlier paragraph.

There is nothing useful in trade bar store. Mounts and companions are overpriced, fashion is outdated and very very ugly..

I would say wards need to be put back on the TB store, they said they planned on making em more available anyway.

Depends on the AD price of the artifact. Even if we take a generous average of 10 t-bars per box, one artifact is 120 lockbox openings, but the actual number would be even higher. I can't swallow spending that much of a limited resource on one thing. Not if I have another way to obtain the same thing.

Personally, I reserve most of my tradebars for Dusk gear, because I play alts. Not very happy with the stats on Dusk for some classes though.

I've been moving on to Dragonflight gear on my alts. I went with Drowcraft for them anyway as it was easier to procure and allowed me to save up the t-bars for the Book. Things like mounts are just to be different. Not many actually ride them.
