My primary toon is just over 4k, and 7 "alts" (one of each class) at ~2.5k, and I've never bought a coal ward with zen; the price is simply absurd. Before, I got them with tradebars (or very rarely, invoking), but now I typically wait for 50% sales and stock up on pres wards instead. Actually buying coal wards at 850+ zen is for suckers, and even at 500 (50% sale price) the pres wards are a better deal for everything except chest/weapon enchants.

Those "15% OFF FOR C-WARDS - BAGS", or "10% OFF..." whatever coupons are the same amounts we were seeing when players could earn Astral Diamonds by invoking and when Gateway was still operational aren't they?

It seems to me that it is becomming more and more difficult to earn AD's but the coupon values, prices in the Zen Market and the Auction House remains as high as they were when there were more options available for a player to earn Astral Diamonds without having to grind away at repetitive "farming" tasks to get paid.

Also there seems to be a real lack of zen store sales happening on a regular basis. We used to see one every week but other than when events come around, they are scarce nowadays. Perhaps Cryptic feel they are getting enough money out of us :p

In addition, there is no Zen sales for a long time. :)

The most recent charge bonus was Sept 1. If you asked me point-blank and I didn't have the internet to look at, I'd have said they're held about quarterly, but for the most part coincide with American holidays.

    Actual dates:

    Valentine's Day - around Feb 14
Spring - around end of April
Independence Day - first weekend in July
Labor Day - first weekend in September
Yanksgiving - last weekend in November
    Christmas

The intervals, even the dates in most cases, are regular and predictable. And a bit more frequent than I initially thought.

Not quite correct. US Thanksgiving is on the 4th Thursday in November, visit that link for the story involving the changing dates thru history.

As to the subject matter -- price of cwards -- the NPD group has a new report out noting this key paragraph:

While most respondents that had bought DLC found the prices reasonable, more than half indicated they would purchase more if content was cheaper. Similarly, half of those who paid for microtransactions said they would do so more often if it didn't cost so much.

It's a rough correlation identifying the probable date of a sale, not necessarily the holiday that you can use to predict said sale. But yes, some Novembers have 5 Thursdays, and this particular sale should always have a set date.

Sale dates don't necessarily match their corresponding holiday because the holiday could fall mid-week, with the sale happening before or after.

I invoke on 7 toons and complete the cycle daily (what a PITA) and I don't see Coal Wards very often - say about once a month. I open them in batches of 7. As @wylonus pointed out, buying Coal Wards from zen store just isn't cost effective, especially if you want to progress on alts as well. I can't believe they still haven't added Coal Wards to the loot tables in dungeons. They keep taking way and taking away but hardly ever give back and when they do, it's a HAMSTER-poor attempt - latest example being the wonderful Mini Apparatus of Gond, which must be the worst companion/augment in the history of the game.

they never give back period, all they have ever done is make new pay walls
Frankly, they did but they took it back.
C-ward was in t-bar store. They dropped the cost significantly, so, at that moment, they did give back.

Of course, they took C-ward away from t-bar store many months later.

It would have been better not to have dropped the cost at all than move it to the Zen store. And I would likely spend much more if you could charge for 500 Zen at a time instead of their 1000 Zen floor.

Based on the trend, when they do some nice thing, it is a preparation of doing something bad. That is: they pull the knife back so that they can stab you harder and further.
