Disabling Visuals for Enchantments...

acro33acro33 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 79 Arc User

Anyone else feel like they've spent a lot of time in making your characters outfit look just perfect just to have the look ruined by your enchantments visual effect?
Negation is particularly irritating, but also some weapon enchantment effects are way over the top and ruins the look of your weapon.

I suggest that an option to disable the visual effect for armour and weapon enchantments be implemented in the near future; it shouldn't be hard to do since we can disable the visuals for all other types of gear so why not enchantments?
With the new mod on the horizon this would be a perfect opportunity to add this one small feature that really should've been in the game since the very start.

Here is a somewhat recent thread on the subject. There have been hundreds, at a conservative estimate.

I continue to believe that the reason the devs keep brushing this request aside is because enchant animations are a hardcoded element of the enchant effect. When they say "we hear ya, but we can't do it easily", they're serious.

    but still +1

would be nice if you could switch the "severity" of the visuals, like they do with deciding which level of the compainion you'd like to run around with.

To address the original poster; my husband is a computer programmer and works as a contractor. He has my laptop "tweaked" but here is what he has to say about visual effects and programming games.
    Hello Everyone,

My name is Brian Black, I have been working with computers since the days of BASIC, Assembly, and DOS systems, long before we had hard drives, and floppies were 8 inches wide. Programming any game software was originally done by very small groups and wasn't really that difficult. As time progressed (like it or not) Windows became a company standard OS. Today this means, if you plan to make a commercial quality game, it has to work with the current version of Windows or cross platform. Then you need to work (crawl in bed) with a popular GPU hardware design team. This is why you see Nvidia and AMD/ATI logos on all your games at the start up. Most PCs (especially laptops) don't ship with anything more than Intel shared memory on the motherboard. Game designers these days must play ball with both hardware and software vendors in order to publish anything marketable. Ethically it is not the way I would like to do business and forces the average person who buys the economy model PC or laptop out of the game market altogether.

No longer is source code written by the select few but entire departments of programmers. There is no call to write graphic drivers since they exist from the hardware vendor. There is no need to write audio software, this is written by the hardware vendor. Windows handles the graphic subroutines through the API calls to the Direct X system. Again there is no longer a need to write your own custom graphics interface. If I want to make 3D graphic appear, I access a dynamic linked library (DLL) and call up the function needed.

About the only way to make improvements to these games is what you already have at your disposal. Neverwinter has a decent GPU interface allowing you to "dumb down" the graphic effects in the visual options. Beyond that you are still allowed to tweak your Direct X since that is not property of Cryptic or anyone but Microsoft. Unfortunately there has been little work done on Direct X tweaking since version 9.x. If you already use Nvidia or ATI cards, there are some GPU tweaks available from the driver's control panel.
Recently I purchased this new HP laptop from the local Walmart, it seems to do the job but it is always nice to have a live in IT support. <3

Dunno the tweaking you are talking about but if you mean disabeling visuals localy other players in the game still perceive you as a big glowing ball - the topic is about endgame armor enchants
Please fix Zhentarim Warlock companion's skill "Arcane Warping" to the originally intended "Arcane Boost"

Pure -> Transcendent Plague Fire weapon enchantment giving 80damge/20 seconds for 500k+ AD is a joke.

I am afraid you cannot change other players perspective within the game nor would I desire to change what they see on their end. Some of the DX managers I have used in the past, allow players to change the texture of the costume and eliminate or disable certain visuals. All DX managers work on the client side and there is no way for any individual to change everyone's point of view. I have the Fireburst enchantment that makes a stupid lava splooch at my feet when I mount or dismount my horse. If it bothers me that greatly, I could ask my husband to disable the effect using his knowledge about DX graphics. However everyone else will still see the lava splooch as long as I wear the enchantment.

I don't like the lack of ascetics for Neverwinter armors and that is why I choose from the very limited fashions they offer. I much preferred their earlier costume designer of Champions Online. You designed the character the way you want them to appear in game, and anything you add, such as body armor, is not seen and creates no visual change to your costume. You are allowed to save multiple costume designs and everyone perceives you just as you appear.

If you want to be a big glowing ball wildfirede, you would need to run a very advanced DX manager and share your tweaks with all your friends.

I think you are missing the idea of the original post - everyone who uses negation (a popular armor enchantment) is currently a big blue ball of lightning without the option to tone it down - and no tweeking can change that.

Did you try wearing it on transcendent for months on your main :) it simply destroys any option to change the appearance of your toon (check the link becky provided for some examples..)

i did as far as leveling my DR to 80% from other sources and just sold mine but i am sure enchants destroying fashion underneath them was a big factor to low fashion sales and their move to t.bar store.
