Black Ice Set Bonus

Can anyone help with a question?

With the upcoming opportunity to swap out the Lostmauth set, has anyone got any real data on how often the Black Ice set bonus procs?

I'm thinking of swapping out on my CW but I'd hate to go from a situation of proccing most of the time to proccing occasionally...

the greater black ice belt is CON/CHA not INT/CHA so i don't think it is a good alternative to the lostmauth set based purely on the belt stats

Black ice set bonus is terrible......

Just stick with lostmauth. Even with the nerf , lostmauth is better than all that's out there

Thanks guys. Yep, with CC being somewhat pointless in groups atm I'm aiming for dps. I'm at 2.7k & using Ironzerg's build - with a perf vorpal my damage is currently good.

I see the Valindra belt has INT & CHA but I'd hate to lose the armor pen & the set bonus is CC... meh, lol.

Yeah 150 compared to 2k is a terrible difference - my crit chance is 56% but the 1st 7 secs crit at 100% so it's more like 2/3rds of the time.

I think others have already pointed out that the set bonus - the Black Ice Damage - is extremely poor. I farmed the set back when it still cost 250k Black Ice per piece, for my OP, and was very, very underwhelmed by it's effect.

My advice to you is to patch preview and claim it there - the merchant should show up there too - and give it a go. Running a couple of mini lairs like Biggrins and Dread Spire should give you an idea of it's effect.

Posted this ACT picture over in a Nine Hells discussion. Four consecutive runs on CN with the same group. Do not bother with testing the BI set.

The person above has it right.. out of almost 40,000 atracks only 300 black ice procs for 140 damage each... lame!!!!

Didn't realize the greater belt was CON/CHA. And with the crappy procs, there is like no reason for a CW to get this set over the LM set.

hmmmm.. I dont mean to rub it in folks.. but I HAVE been telling you.. WHEN ALL choices are basically terrible, lostmouth is STILL the best bet.

NO dps class should exchange anything, not even CWs really. YOU WONT net any more dps with any other set.. you may net more on a cw with no set (how lame is that really)

OF COURSE if they altar some of these other sets .. it wont be AFTER the exchange so you wont be able to make a actual informed decision.. so who knows.

Sadly, this is the status quo of thier recent work.

Again, this really has nothing to do with thier exchange, it has to do with the fact that ALL these sets were already tested eons ago.. rejected because they were HORRIBLE and trash .. nothing has changed on any of them..

For overall DPS I'd wager Losty neck + Greater Owlbear belt + arti of your choice (fill in stats you need) will net the most DPS.. but as far as sets go, you're probably right.

I did some tests on the test server myself while running ACT, the BI belt seems to up my base damage up till a point were I do equally as much, sometimes a couple 100k more or a tiny bit less damage than with the Lostmouth set. However the set bonus from the BI set makes up for 0% of my dmg, doing a poorly 2-5k damage. In contrast to the Lostmouth set that makes up 5-6% of my dmg, dealing around 100k. In my opinion Lostmouth is still the best option, as I still have a lot of more room for increasing my crit rate, initially making the set more worthwhile.

I will test out Imperial as well, it was doing slightly better on the dummies on the first test, so I am curious how that turns out on mobs and several test. Will update/add a comment when I find out!

Update: The Imperial set gives me 100k more dmg, but the average hit remains almost the same. The Set bonus makes up for 20-30k dmg. I stick with my statement I made earlier. I also noticed that I kill adds with the Imperial set a bit slower, which would mean that I deal less damage in high dps parties where I could potentially not keep up with their speed.
