New ships should be free

The new ships should be free, not put in the c-store. I understand it helps raise money for the game which is a good thing for future development. Bridges, ship skins, special ships (gal X) and other fluffy stuff do belong in the c-store but new ships that really should have been in the game at launch being put in the c-store is not cool at all. You ask what ships we want to see added to the game first then pull a 180 and say now you must pay for them, not cool. Instead just put them in the game, make them unlockable or using merits to get them. As I write this I kinda get the feeling that the budget department has already spoken and usually means that's final.

Not neccessary. Please tell me how it is that everyone else can do it? It's greed, plain and simple.

simple lieke they had been dooing since before the galaxy x got put in the shop and the low level promotinal connie..., like the skins for sci ships and escorts and cruisers they all in there. This is just how they promised it should but , but the new ships and such is like a huge backstab and slap in the face atleast to me.. And trust me its not the money its the principle of saying one thing then dooing the other....

I have an idea make up their own design instead of making money off of someone else's work. why don't release those ships, and make skins for those ships. make a C-store non canon skin for an updated excelsior. But they should put Iconic, and canon ships in the game.

And since when do we have to start spoon feeding Cryptics? It sounds like you are encouraging Cryptics to keep introducing posibly "game changing" ships via C-Store. It's like you are asking the municipalities to tax you more. I don't understand.

That is a great idea...considering how one can get around liscensing issues and copyright patents these days.

well they already do it with every Iconic ship in the game, and they already sale skins for the iconic ships this should be no different.

That's true..I feel its a monetary issue...I posted in a different forum about that thought. My feeling is that they should be focusing on customer satisfaction first, and then the bottom line. As it is how much in profits do they need to keep operating? Did someone accidentally leave the water running over the weekend and now they are worried about a big bill?...lol Put some items in the cryptic store, and that'll keep us solvent....

    How about something better?

    Stop Offering Lifetime Subscriptions.

It's simple really; Cryptic lost a lot of money off of the huge rush of people who went for the LTS, and even the yearly and 6 month subscriptions, because we're not dumb and realize "hey, it IS cheaper to do it this way." If they stopped selling those (and with the yearly/6 month people, only continued to offer those people those subscription plans) they would be charging new people monthly, and they wouldn't lose more monthly subscriptions when people can finally drop the money on a LTS or greater. Maybe open the doors for those subscriptions again in a year or two (if the game is still around by then). Then, they keep making money so that they can put more stuff in the actual game rather than in their C-Store.

With the continued "charge-extra-for-all-content" philosophy, there won't be anyone left in a year.

That's the dillema myself and my friends have, whether to keep paying our sub, or cancel, save the money and go play APB and wait for it to go to F2P.

I have to disagree with that statement. We've made 3 updates including new content to the game since launch, and are about to launch another one. Of those updates, none of them have had any extra cost to you. Seasons 1, 1.1, 1.2, and 2, are all updates which included new content to Star Trek Online at no additional cost to you.

    Thanks,

stormshade please ignore these people flaming you guys at cryptic for putting stuff into the cstore. they just like to complain. I rather enjoy star trek's unique approach to the way you support the further development of the game. I for one will be buying the ships if they are not too expensive. if they are as expensive like the galaxy x however I will prolly be only purchasing the excelsior class to replace the stargazer class as my lexington b. thanks again for all the hard work you guys are doing.

No kidding. Take the K'tanco, the great example of how they add ships for free. It was added because of a glaring oversight by the devs on how a lack of a cruiser completely unbalanced PvP in T2. It was added as a bug fix not as a content option.

I don't criticize spelling - since it generally means a lack of a good argument on my side.

However, I can criticize a selective memory. Check out the patch notes again and review what content has been added.

Eh...content...I reserve the right to place judgement on the new klingon content until launch but so far it looks like a lop-sided update.

I thought you were going to, "flesh out the klingon faction"...so far my klingon is still reminiscient of a Somali war victim...underfed and underwhelmed.

    I demand gah...and lots of it...lol

IN My Honest opinion, I dont mind paying for them, just not $20 each for 2 ships, especially one that SHOULD have been IN game to begin with (Nebula). Excelsior i can understand being in the c-store cannon-wise should probably be retired by now. They just better not be $20 dollars is all im saying.,

and yet we have a Miranda and Constitution flying around. I don't see how it matters if it is era specific or not. That boat has long since sailed.

Those updates all included base game content intended to keep us from getting bored and to keep paying you.

All the non-essential gameplay things that people are CRAZY for seem to get moved to the C-Store in order to wring cash out of us.

Excelsior should have been in at launch, in fact it should be where the Refit-Connie is...

Nebula should be a Cmdr/Capt cruiser-like ship that should be included for free to give all the people with alts something new to look forward to, keeping people playing new alts means they keep playing the game period and that's a good thing...

You guys have always done this. You create a system that screams for people to make alts because they have so much creativity and freedom and the ability to so greatly exercise it with the tools you give...then you short us on low and mid level content that we'd use to level each new toon...

Did it in CoH for a year did in CO for the last year and doing it in STO...the way you guys push customization you should have realized by now you basically encourage us to make alts then punish us for doing so...

The C-Store-a-palooza is just another example of this I'm afraid...

I don't agree with the c-store. I think it is quite greedy for a subscription based game. I would like to see crypric choose one way or the other and not try both. As it is, I highly doubt I will ever pay for any c-store credits, unless in a stroke of money-hungry genius they decide to "sell" ship interiors (and then I would be just as likely to leave STO.) But c-store is here and is most likely never going away so I will continue to ignore it except to claim my free beta and pre-order goodies.

I'll adjust the OP's comment, and resubmit it to you; We seem to have a "Charge-extra-for-any-canon-content" model being developed. The Star Trek fans being brought into this game aren't appreciating having to continually pay extra for the "Star Trek" part of Star Trek Online. Promoting the PVP tweaks and cost-of-life adjustments aren't what's going to impress and retain the Star Trek fanbase. Being able to play a /Star Trek/ game is.

These are ships that fans expected from a Star Trek game at launch. Instead, you chose to create your own variants and a slew of T5 skins.

At some point, Cryptic needs to decide whether this is Star Trek Online, or Generic Sci-Fi War online....with some middling Star Trek content availible in the C-store.

World of warcraft does updates just like how cryptic does it, and its free. same with SWG. AO, EQ, only time when you have to pay for something is monthly dues and expansions like all the other games

    Thanks

Let's be completely clear about this: if they did not put these ships in the C-store, then you would not get them for free. You would simply not get them at all, since there would be no additional money to pay for their development.

But you dont want us to be extra thankfull for regular MMO updates that are coverd by the monthly fee?

Maybe you shouldnt have started to push that much stuff into C-Store while the rest of the game needs a lot of work customization wise and content wise.

So I dont have to disagree with your post but I have to point out that advertising free updates that are free in any MMO with monthly fee is like a car dealer pointing out that YOUR car will be delivered with FOUR WHEELES :D:rolleyes:

I stick to my point that C-Store should be a option and everything should be obtainable by playing the game (mid / longterm goals)
