you don't need the launchers at all. Just use the shortcut to the program.
Most things like this are promotions ... you get something or other for free and they get info about you that helps their marketing department to target you and your peers better.

It seems like they just snuck the requirement in. I did not mind using the launcher, by logging into my Arc account. But sometime very recently they changed it. If you want to log into the Arc launcher it has to be through Facebook, AND they do not give you the windows control to close the popup window. Like you said, I am now simply going to be logging into the game with the shortcut.

I just updated mine and it's like it always has been. There's an option to log in via Facebook at the bottom, but the normal login with account name or email remains where it's always been. Perhaps something got bugged with yours.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
I just updated Arc on my server, and it does indeed have a "Sign in to Facebook" in bold blue, but if you look further down you can press the "Log in with existing account" to bypass it.
I log-in through Arc using my email. It does not force you to log-in with Facebook. I also normally use just the plain old launcher without any issue when I've no need to use Arc.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
The best part about this thread is seeing all these hipsters trying to pretend they've never heard of Facebook.
Does thinking it was just a rehashed myspace when it was opened up to the (university going) public count?
Nope; having a low opinion of it isn't the same as pretending you've actually never heard of it. The former is very common, while the latter is just laughable.
So far I think I've got the latest version of Arc and I don't see anything about Facebook in it anywhere--which is exactly how I like it. I don't see a reason to merge those to aspects of online life at all. (Likewise with Spotify and Facebook, Skype and Facebook, etc.)
Wouldn't a hipster be talking about how they had a Facebook account back before it got popular and people ruined it?
No, a hipster would use an open-source, organic social network that they found on an abandoned Geocities site and repurposed. It only runs on certain flavors of Linux. You probably haven't heard of it, because you only like popular things, and the hipster hasn't heard of Facebook, because hipsters stay away from popular things. A hipster who has heard of Facebook is unclean.
Okay, I don't have a Facebook, never have and never will, and I have no problems. Bigger question is: Why don't you have it set to automatically log you in whenever you launch Arc? Like, why is this a problem for you? The only time I get the login thing is when my computer creates a proxy server for no reason and it screws with my internet connection. Honestly, Arc doesn't force you to log in with Facebook and it never has. Me, it's just a one and done with my Gmail. Don't see what your problem is, friend... maybe you're thinking too hard about this...
Why is Arc trying to force people to sign in with Facebook?
It is not going to happen with me. My personal business is my personal business. What I have on my Facebook page is none of you business Arc.
I've looked at all the different avenues Arc asks for log-in. Not one forces a FB log-in. On all log-in pages you even have the option to 'REGISTER', which also does not direct you to FB.

Oh yeah, that's right! I still use the Cryptic launcher. So I don't have to worry about that kind of BS.
Thank you for the time...
Until they make it so you can't use the individual launchers, like they said they would eventually do.
Not a huge fan of Arc, myself. But I drank the koolaid and that's how I launch now.
I dislike how the display of games I have no interest in playing overwhelm my personal library of the games I've actually installed, and I dislike the cluttered feel of the interface overall, but it does one thing well and that is that I don't have to re-log back in constantly to switch games and when I'm not in the process of launching a game it mostly stays out of my way and out of sight.
@OP: Point of interest, if you don't want to do something, then just don't. No need to announce it to the whole world. And it never asked me to log in with Facebook, btw.
Arc is annoying, in that it shoves a whole lot of silly Asian fantasy games in my face: games I will never ever play. But Arc also logs me in automagically, and that is kinda handy.

GG Arc, not.

Facebook.
Everywhere else, including Arc, it's optional. If you don't want to use it.. don't.
I have heard of facebook, I'm just not interested in social media.

I've never seen Arc force me to log in using Facebook. OP must have done something for Arc to do that.

Open launcher C:/Program Files (x86)/Star Trek Online_en/Star Trek Online.exe.
Pin program to taskbar.
Subsequently, open launcher from taskbar.
