Is it me, or there is an incredible amount of lag lately??

Could this new FE be causing lag in combination with First Contact event?? I guess, we will find out in a couple of days.

2nd day in a row now and the launcher has taken multiple attempts to connect, takes a minute or so to get anything happen like the engage button appear and once the game does start it instantly crashes and requires "fixing".

PS4 has also been slow, sluggish and unable to find server first few times around as well.

Seems like during one of the three maintenances last week someone borked something.

To troubleshoot network problems to STO, *always* run a pathping and/or tracert test. This can identify whether it's your home equipment, ISP, regional network connection, Cryptic's ISP, or Cryptic's hardware that's at issue. If you can identify this as a downstream connection problem (last two or three hops) then post in the appropriate bug form (linked below) to be sure relevant devs have all the info we can provide them.

Network issues are best troubleshooted thoroughly. You may be having trouble connecting to Cryptic but that could be the fault of anything between your PC and their servers (...)
Wise words  I should add thoroughly check your own PC for available resources, background processes and anything else that could hinder the smooth operation of the game.

I did and now I have to retract my previous post. *runs away and hides* Is there an embarrassment emote?

Also learn to differentiate between lag, freeze, stutter, etc. as they all can point to different things.

if your on ps4 you can't run tracert/traceroute since that option does not exist on the console.

i've been getting SNR's in both STO and Neverwinter over the past week.

Yes, you can so long as you have a PC connected to the same home network. Tracert/pathping in that case won't be diagnosing the specific servers your PS4 connects to on the final hop (assuming that Cryptic does in fact use separate hardware for different platforms) but it will check everything else (your router, modem, ISP, their ISP, and regional network connections.)

I pinned down the crash to another launcher for a different game. Restarting the PC stopped that happening.

However there is still a lot of lag even though sto is the only thing using connection. Pulled all bar the cable for my PC and turned off all the wireless possibilities.

Latency shows the standard 120ms which is normal for sto and similar to most transatlantic ping based games. Yet the FE rerun had rubberbanding and a good 1 sec or more delay between hitting an button and parr doing anything on the lizard planet. Similar things running a couple of alts through hearts and minds for the doff and dance.

Interestingly task manager entry currently shows sto as http code/svn/startrek/baselines/st.**.*******a.0(221772) (32bit)

I changed some of the numbers to *'s

You may still have a failing router/modem. Way to troubleshoot that if you have separate hardware: run a speed test when connected to the router. Then, plug in directly to the modem (establish a connection) and run another speed test. If there's a giant gulf between them, then you probably have a bum router. If both are good, then the issue is further down the line (regional network connection or Cryptic hardware). If both are bad, then you may have a failing router or ISP issues.

To help identify what's what: run those tests linked above. Incomplete information doesn't help developers solve problems. For example, a couple years ago a dispute between ISP's disrupted regional networking traffic. Some people had a hard time connecting to STO, based on where they lived and where their connection was being routed through. It took time to identify this though because many of the initial threads were only shouting at Cryptic to fix the game. They couldn't. Once enough people ran the tests and identified (repeatedly) that it was a connection to Cryptic's ISP that was at fault (not user hardware), Cryptic had to go to them for a fix. Eventually, things were worked out but it took time. It may have taken less time though if we'd provided the network tests right away rather than just commenting on lag and assuming that the devs had the ability to diagnose global communication networks.

So yeah, real issue that may affect the resolution of the issues you're seeing. Run those tracert/pathping tests and report any issues you see (that don't fall on your own network or ISP) on the bug reporting forum.

I did not see any rubberbanding in Sector Space during DOFFing or while wandering around Ganalda Station. No pause between hitting the Refine Dilithium button and seeing completion of action.

So, it looks like my issue was in part to the First Contact event, for some reason.

Yeah, it seems its resolved for now, everything is normal, with the occasional rubber banding, but that's on my end...

While 300-400ms may be the standard ping, CCA has been spiking quite a bit higher this past fortnight or so. Don't recall offhand whether it was 5 or 6 digit ping but do recall it was hard to contribute to the battle as there was almost no ship control due to extreme lag. Seemed to solely affect that mission as DS9 etc had regular ping. Fine today though so perhaps whatever the issue was has been resolved?
