STO should give Harry Kim something that Voyager didn't.

Voyager hung Harry out to dry in a lot of ways, not the least of which was in his love life. Now that we can freely move back and forth to the Delta Quadrant how about Harry be reunited with Derran Tal from the Voyager episode "The Disease" ? It could just be a small comment he makes saying they are together but I would love a mission that reunites them.

They did give Harry something VOY didn't.

    A promotion. He's a captain now.

I would be interested to see how this would go. Of course, I would like to have another episode with Keten and Jhet'leya. I still feel that Dust to Dust was one of STO's best missions and stories.

Miles O'Brien still had the worst luck of any major character in Trek. Most of his DS9 episodes just not kind to him and his family. He'd need more recompense than Kim! :D But they do share in that both had duplicates(originals???) that died and got replaced by the other one.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Jhet'leya is possible but Keten decided to eat the glowing end of a phaser emitter, if you recall...

If STO has taught us anything... any story reuniting Harry with Derran will most certainly involve live fire. Resulting in the loss of uncountable lives...

    Just saying...

Harry Kim was a total chump. Seven years without a promotion. I can't even imagine doing the same job for seven years, doing it extremely well, and barely getting so much as a thanks. He's the last person on Voyager I would ever expect to reach the rank of captain. But that was only a possible future, in Endgame. He was sort of a renegade on another episode where he travels back in time to save Voyager from crashing, so we don't really know what Harry Kim becomes after Voyager.

He's seventy thousand light-years from the nearest starbase. It's not like he's got a lot of career options out there.

STO is exceptionally barren when it comes to romantic relationships of any kind. Only the occasional briefest of mentions are alluded to, and yet Star Trek has plenty of romance, love and sex, it is, afterall, an examination of the human condition. It could be because they cater for children, with its advisory rating of 13 years, they know full well plenty of younger people play the game.

I would prefer it if STO took a leaf out of ESO's book and made the game 18 cert, we could then have a lot more realism added, far more interesting storylines, more colourful language and a generally more realistic interpretation of what life would actually be like. Star Trek Discovery is moving in that direction, STO is many years behind the curve. Best you will get are carefully written foundry missions at this point, assuming of course the foundry ever returns.
Changing it to 18+ wouldn't change how they make stories, since everything they do has to be approved by CBS anyways, and CBS likely wouldn't do it because video games aren't good mediums for romance plots. The only thing that changing the game to 18+ would do is allow them to swear, and there was already enough outrage from the fandom about them saying the F-word on Discovery due to how un-Trek that kind of swearing is.

STO already covers everything from torture, to war, to genocide, so it's 13 rating hasn't really stopped it in regards to anything violent. Hell, we indirectly kill Noye and Clauda's unborn children in the Butterfly mission, not to mention how we nearly killed off the Tuterian species in the process.

Don't forget about the Romulan mission where you murder baby epohhs and Sela calls them rodents... :'(

The same topics are covered in PG rated films, you just don't see the detail, that's the difference, all is alluded to, very little is in your face. So we are talking blood, gore, sex, violence, innuendo, nudity etc, none of which you would find in a PG or 13 rated title, but much of which could still be alluded to or implied. I supposed it depends how you like your game, I would not push for it to be an 18 certificate, I don't really care that much, but I certainly wouldn't be against it.
Yes, I'm sure adding a low polygon/low texture size nude bodies to a few of the NPCs, and flaunting them around for a mission or two, would REALLY improve the quality of the game... I like STO, and it's graphics, but any nude NPC in this game would look like a bad inflatable doll.

Also, all of that stuff is in your face. We see the Preserver planet getting destroyed by the Iconians, we see the Tzenkethi use their protomatter weapons to cleanse all life on a planet/moon, we see the Elachi's prisoners getting transformed into Elachi, we see the Tal Shiar toruting people and doing mind games on them. We see all of it, in-game directly.

You've not player The Witcher 3 have you.
Witcher 3 is a single player game with little to no multiplayer component, they can be allowed to be a lot more detailed then a MMO, MMOs always trail behind other games when it comes to things like model or texture details.

Again what would adding TRIBBLE and gore really add to the game? I dout Witcher series was popular solely due having exposed TRIBBLE in it. To give another example Game of Thrones (the TV series) became popular because of the characters and story, in fact people complained it had too much sex in it and sexual content was toned down in later seasons but the series did remain popular enough.

So what would turning STO into a "poor man's TRIBBLE" really add to it?

video games aren't good mediums for romance plots.

    Final Fantasy 7
    Final Fantasy 8
Any Resident Evil with both Leon and Ada in it
    The entire StarCraft franchise

That's all I can think of right this second, I know there are many more. All of those titles have either a prominent subplot involving romance, or have a romance that is central to the entire story. Video games are definitely capable of handling a romance plot.

Final Fantasy 7: Cloud + Aeris / Cloud + Tifa

Final Fantasy 8: Squall + Rinoa is the core of the entire plot, and is directly linked to Laguna's romance subplots in the flashback sequences.

Resident Evil: though they never actually do anything, the obvious feelings between Leon and Ada influence the actions of both characters several times

StarCraft: in the original plus Brood War, the romance between Jim Raynor and Kerrigan is a subplot that's mostly just hinted at, but in StarCraft 2 it becomes central to the plot, particularly in Wings of Liberty when Raynor puts everything on the line for a chance to turn her human again.

Still there's some issues with implimenting a romance storyline in an MMO like STO. While I'm not saying it can't be done SWTOR did that to a degree of success from what I can gather, it does demand rather large amount of planning.

Also when it comes to romance storylines they often involved the viewpoint character, the viewpoint character for STO is essentially a blank slate (being the player character), while it's not impossible to write romance for a "blank slate" game character, it's not easy since everyone will have their own opinions as to how the character "should" behave, something STO writers are struggling with even without something as complex as romance in the mix.

Didn't the Delta arc mention or at least imply that Harry Kim resumed his relationship with his Earth-based girlfriend Libby?

In Starfleet? Of course. Starfleet officers don't want girlfriends, it'd be a problem when it comes to making out with aliens of the week.

How many Starfleet characters have any kind of long-term romantic relationships? O'Brien's married and then there was that thing between Worf and Dax and even that didn't last long before she died. Can't think of any more.
