It's not any fun, right? LOL!

Frankly, I kinda like closing the rifts...but that is me.

Yeah, 2 days down and utter failure, as far as 'winning'. Dozens of MU ships pounding away on the base and 5-8 chase you across the board (even when cloaked) so they can kill you. I'll give it one more real try, then after that it's time phone it in.

I've also been in some where the rifts all seem to spawn at once and the ships come through before very many can be closed. I got swarmed really badly because of that.

Still, I'm going to keep plugging away and trying to do my part, even if it's circling the station and trying to protect it. Since my ships all have pets, that helps.

I've also been in a few where we closed 40+rifts before the first part ended and there was just enough pause to re-launch any pets I lost.

Overall, I try to have fun even on bad runs. I like to keep the station health up to get those extra marks.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

3 Days in and i'm sick of this event already. 1 more run today and then that's it.

I'm doing Red Alerts for my PvP Marks. This Event can burn in the fires of hell.

Yeah, looked at the rewards in-game...

And I can't bring myself to slog through this event for it.

    Sorry Cryptic.

I fell asleep at the keyboard last night after playing my 14th alt during this event on normal mode. Woke up to see someone whispered me with a threat that they reported me to GM and forums for afk. To my knowledge it doesn't matter if you participate 100% of the time unless you want to be competitive and care for the bonuses.

Definitely getting sick of the people whining in team chat that they are going to report and attempt to kick people. I am puzzled why they don't just do the same or make a private team if it annoys them so passionately.

Maybe they take their 'responsibilities' to the fidelity of the Mission seriously. ;)

Maybe a closet sympathizer with the Mirror enemy? :)

i'm happy i chose to go with only one character for this. once a day is fine. even 2 characters would make me annoyed. also, who has space for a console like they are giving for this mirror? it should be a device.

As a new player, is it worth rushing to 50 in order to play this or is would it be better to take my time?

I only ask as something "free" like this console may help me out once I start getting closer to end game, since I don't have a lot ATM.

MU Advanced. 36 Rifts closed, base defenses full. Failed optional. I'm going around in my D4x demolishing any ship in my path within 2-3 Elachi DHC volleys, closing rifts as fast as possible, zipping around at ridiculous speeds to catch ones free of aggro. Nope. Not enough. It's like this event's just not made for pugs.

Well it's confirmed, according to the patch notes on Tribble, they 'listened' to the complaints. Rifts will spawn in Phase I until the timer runs out. Just what we asked for (not) to end Phase I when all rifts were closed. Now you can earn even more Marks as 50 or 60 rifts are possible.

Yippee. Next time we use reverse psychology and ask for a longer timer. :(

Nah, going back to afking the event.

Doing this on my three main characters is like pulling my own fingernails out, so i can only imagine what it is like for those with 10+!

I wouldn't bother rushing to 50 in order to play this, enjoy the journey

The console is something you can only use every 2 minutes so you're really not missing out on anything that's a "must have". As you rank up there'll be much better consoles and both space and weapons sets obtainable through doing the missions that will benefit your ship far more.

I see. So far I'm enjoying what I'm seeing so taking my time is what I'd prefer to do. Thanks for your input, it's very much appreciated.

Well, I haven't seen much AFKing in Normals I been running...thank goodness. Frankly, I probably wouldn't notice anyway, as I tend to head toward the fracas.

But I am sure, as the grind wears onward....people will burn out on this. I know I am burning out. I am cutting it back to once a day on each character, instead of twice a day (going for Lukari and Competitive marks...just decided "competitive" isn't my thing).

I wonder if people think I am AFK sometimes, though. I have to run off and regen my hull and shields on that BoP. Other than that strange concern (why the hell do I care what people think about how I am playing, anyways) I am having fun and trying out different consoles and gear I don't normally even bother with.

I see about 1 AFKer per normal run I've run so far... Some ship sitting behind one of the three power relay stations, and only moves when a rift opens behind them...

WHICH REMINDS ME, I would enjoy this SO MUCH MORE if we couldn't be interrupted when closing rifts... I get that rift about 95% closed when three Mirror ships appear inside and start immediately firing at me... Happens ALL THE TIME!! But that's my only frustration with it...

As if people are openly admitting to AFK'ing! You should be ashamed!! I think it's time for Cryptic to nerf the rewards and start making people actually work for them for a change.

The last two nights on one run each night, one of the Team showed constantly throughout the Mission, Joining, Leaving, Joining, Leaving..... as fast as I am typing it here. Never had their participation. Have not ever seen it like that in the past.

I see that a TON in the Competitive queues. Actually had a Fleetmate tell me that they get stuck on loading into instances from time to time. One time while teamed with them they had trouble. In the mission it did exactly what you described, Player Joined, Player left. Happened for about a minute before they loaded in. I've also seen that stop and a "new" player joins and we go about our merry way.

I think it may be tied to the new player matching system, but obviously I can't say for sure. I do know that I can't remember seeing it before so, to me, it's at least a contributing factor.

    edited to add -

I know that it's not the official name, but I'm going to start calling it the Player Matching System, P.M.S. for short. Which sounds about right considering how temperamental and unpredictable it can be at times. Probably gonna get me some hate from the ladies, but it's the truth. :)

yeah i had a joined left joined left either today or yesterday - but towards the end they finally got in.

i actually haven't seen any afk so far - though again i'm only playing on 1 character. i also have seen very little afk ever in this game - maybe 10-20 cases in tens of thousands of runs.

I see this as a chance to test out new ship builds and weapon layouts and get marks at the same time.

I'll test my canon T6 Fleet Galaxy build later on it. On the whole, it's been a mixed bag lately with the pugs (bad pugs in some cases)

I've had occasions where I crashed repeatedly. The new queue actually doesn't kick you for crashing.

I think it should be rebuilt so the 10 minute timer is a hard fail. Clear the X number of portals in 10 minutes or lose. :p

Now seems as good a time as any to organize my musings from earlier in this thread on how to address Mirror Invasion's major issues - length, and how to get people to actually put in work - in a manner more engaging than simply 'infinite portal spawns'.

First, no infinite portals; rather, there should be enough so that closing them all in fifteen minutes is possible yet challenging for an earnest team.

Second, I would add a pair of possible complications, elaborated below:

      • Tholian Entanglements: the Terrans' rifts have a chance of attracting Tholians (in a 'reversal' of what can happen when a Tholian capital ship is taken out). If a rift gets to maximum size, there is an (x + 2y)% chance of a Tholian battle group (2 Orb Weavers; 6 Mesh Weavers) spawning in near a max-size rift; x is some small number (say, 5), and y is the number of additional max-size rifts open at the moment.
      • Mobius Squardon: when a command battlecruiser gets below 50% health, it begins emitting a distress beacon. If that ship is not swiftly destroyed - in terms of mechanics, consider the alarm consoles in 'Installation 18' - backup arrives in the form of a quartet of Mobuis TDDs, which focus exclusively on the players. Note, too, that one of these will be picked from a list of unique Mobiuses (see also: boss ships in Fleet Alert; Tholian flagships in their RA; etc.).

Both of these complications can only trigger once in a given run, and serve to encourage keeping the portals under control.

Another concern is how long it takes to prepare the anti-tachyon pulse. Perhaps part of that is charging its... for lack of a better term... capacitor banks; in such a scenario each interaction with an energy collector could present the choice of diverting power to defenses (what normally happens) or capacitor banks (shaving X seconds off the prep time).

On a more general note, perhaps the boss fleet should replace its dreadnought and escorts with their temporal counterparts, following the precedent in Counterpoint.

With incentives to do more than just sit there presented, we now come to the question of how marks would be disbursed. The standard lines for defense level, station health, and expeditious defeat of the boss group still apply; new ones would be the following:

      • Due Haste: ? for each minute under 15 (encouraging players to divert power to the pulse capacitors)
      • Mobius Squardon eliminated: ?
      • Tholian battle group eliminated: ?

      Aaand... accolades!

      • Clear Skies: no portals or hostile ships present when anti-tachyon pulse fires.
      • Disassembly: destroy Tholian battle group.
      • Rending the Strip: destroy Mobius Squadron.
      • Smooth Sailing: complete run without triggering Tholian Entanglements or Mobius Squadron.
      • Mirror Invasion Headhunter: destroy all named dreadnoughts.
      • Mirror Invasion Top Gun: destroy all named Mobiuses. Unlocks special hull pattern for Mobius and Wells, if/when owned.

Have the spawn rates been changed? They seem to be respawning too quickly

Could be, they changed it so the rifts spawn right until the timer runs out on Phase I this morning. Could also be affecting the spawn rate as well.

it's annoying trying to close rifts when under constant fire with the interrupts

I always try to clean them up starting with the farthest from the station and work inward. That way you only have to possibly deal with overlap from the sides rather than getting hit from behind and interrupted over and over.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
