Not that we plan any sort of comeback but...

From what I am reading on these forums lately..

beamscorts? all the premade teams quit? PvP is dead 20 point oh?

Would it even be worth Vice Squad's time to make an honest return at this point (and i mean our premade/experienced unit thats been playing another game for the last 2 months. i am well aware Vice is still playing STO, just not the core group I always personally ran with the most)

Is there fun out there, or is it basically a solo cloaked puggers paradise I really have no interest in?

Some nights I feel like flying a starship, but I just cant bring myself to update the client and login.

Should I? Should I bring the guys?

Or... would it be a complete waste of time. Whats the current state of PvP for a group that basically always ran as a 3-5 man team?

    1. A beamscort is only as good as it's pilot. Thus most beamscorts aren't that good. :P

    2. Only if you want to spend time waiting in the premade queue. The queue changes have been good and bad. Good in that with no more FvK, getting a match on a KDF toon is a LOT easier and much less painful. Bad in that if you want to play a team vs team match, outside of a private queue, can take a long time before it happens, and even then, people can queue solo in that as well.

    3. Eh, been pretty varied so far as I can tell. Romulans do still rule, but is it a cloaked pugger's paradise? Not really. Sure there's always plenty of fodder who will easily die to any kind of vape, but anyone who has any amount of skill will usually survive.

It isn't so much whether or not you want to come back. It's that there's few left. I would call the situation involving PvP to be...neutral. On the plus, the queue merger has simplified things and made it overall easier to get matches going. On the negative, it's still basically the same cheese-filled mess it can be though as well.

I would say beam-builds are a bit more on the decline. With the trait revamp having happened, people are settling into the new system now, adding stuff like the tier 4 Undine rep shield thing (which is basically a permanent Adapt modifier for ANY shield in space), so pressure damage is a bit lessened. Beam builds can still be a thing, but as always spike is still king for outright kills.

I don't remember how into ground you are, but the kit revamp has made it a LOT more fun for me at least. Playing around with my own kit choices, using the abilities I want to use, being OP. Also not having to pay for trait respecs is a plus.

Anyways, to give some kind of direct answer, only thing I will really say is...update and try it out. You don't have to mess with Undine rep or new FE, but try out the new queues, mess around with the trait system, maybe muck around with a kit, but just try it. Honestly, if you try it out, decide it isn't for you anymore, nothing really lost. If you enjoy the changes done, then maybe it's worth considering further playing.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Tested the waters a bit, about what i expected, couldnt play a non cloaker without getting swarmed by tvaros. But did alright on my own vaper.

I dunno ill check with the others but being honest it seemed pretty ick for a two match toe in the water sort of thing.

Far as IC/Hobo go, no real problem with it, but has organized pvp really become just you guys? It would feel a lot like fight clubbing.

Allhough the number of cloak-capable ships in the pvp queues remain stable, classic one-shot vaping has become less common. Surviving without a cloak has become a bit easier.

There are about the same number of premades active as there were in january/february. With the new queue system its has become virtually impossible for premades dodging other premades however, and most teams rather dissolve or log out before getting smashed a third or forth time in a row by another team. ;)

Before STO went F2P all the power creep began under PWE, Beam Escorts could actually be pretty powerful niche builds.

Had a prometheus myself that could run circles around other escorts and still lay the smackdown on them.
Would usually finish them off with a nice juicy tricobalt at point blank in all its glory. :D

any beam boat has the highest chance of being useless if its not on a good team, or has at least 2 other good beam boats on its team. even in what would be a blow out, something quick and nimble with spike can sneak in a kill and be truly disruptive

    beamscorts?

Every few months, maybe a little longer, Escorts and Cruisers get closer and closer to being the same. Have to figure within a couple of years, there will be a 2pack where the ships have the exact same stats and the only difference will be Cruiser Commands on one and whatever they've added to the +Defense they feel they needed to balance Escorts. Heck, same will happen with Sci. It will be a 3pack, same stats with the Sci version having Sensor Analysis, improved Perception, and Subsystem Targeting. And of course, obviously all three will just have to have a hangar...

They've even got the name ready - they're obviously gonna be the Multi-Mission Vessels.

Hey, for all you know, it'll be the Nebula refit - with different pods, different role.

    I say hi in opvp

I wait a half hour for 1 arena to pop and I cringe through it.

    Then I log out.

Idk, it's not so bad to me. For exampe yesterday i did like 7-8 solo or duo arenas in a row, and 2-3 c&h... waiting time to pop 2-3min average. Maybe you just queue up in the wrong timeslot :D

yeah, sometimes the waiting can be frustrating, in certain timeslot there are 3-4 ppl queued up, but it's not true everytime i queue, from my p.o.v. and experience of course...

Not posting here to do anything other than stir things up a bit. ;)

I think PvPer's should be allowed to run press gangs. To drag people into PvP whether they want to go or not. Think about it. You're grooving along in Sector Space, you see ships hanging out over a planet somewhere, and the urge to PvP suddenly springs full blown into your mind. So you activate the Away Teams, you give them the Queen's shilling (four or five should do), and bam! you're PvPing!. Just like that.

Caveats. Got to have caveats otherwise this is no fun at all. Make this a Trait which can only be activated after 2,000 kills. Space or ground, doesn't matter. Also if the person being pressed resists, you have the option to disable any one Space or Ground item of theirs for one week.

There, that ought to spread a little chaos and disorder. :D Now C'Mon! Let's go get our Kirk on!

Yep, because that will -obviously- bring more people into pvp, who are actually enjoying that aspect of the game. Of course you don't need any specially equiped ships doing pvp, no, you just need your run of the mill pve boat. That's of course especially nice if you're a fresh lvl 50 character with all white equip, enjoying yourself flying around the sector map ... nope nothing wrong with being forcefully pulled into a pvp match and killed 50 times for the other player's amusement.
Seriously, there is a thing called private challenge. Use it.

By any chance have you played Pirates of the Burning Sea? :P

They had a very interesting take on PvP.
Namely a territory control system where ports could be contested, PvE'ers and PvP'ers alike would then sail into contested regions at their own risk.
Sucked of course if you got caught, but was quite the rush when you managed to elude a gank squad.

Well a lot of people entirely lost interest in PvP because Cryptic pretty much killed the whole Faction vs Faction dynamic with S9(though i grant you romulans kind of watered it down a bit).
I know I myself don't really fancy PvP outside of Ker'rat anymore, only staying in the queues for the last PvP accolades i need and then i'm out of there.

Lol, you should see the group Vice, me and a couple other are running when we can. We ran one match with 4 Palisades like mine and an escort. We got a Hail Cheesus remark from the other team.

And dude, give ESO a break every now and then and come back to STO for a night of PvP.

If I had to guess, a mass exodus to the Undine Battlezone. Why queue up for something other than the Borg STFs if you can, without any queues, just fly throught the zone, blow up enemies and capture points and getting marks and these metamorphic injections or what they are called.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA well done.

And yeah maybe, but Sisko is gonna be gone for like 3 months (he came to america for work stuff), Z is pretty adamant he wants to play ESO for a while (i think he was burned out hard on STO, but thats just a guess), Hajee and Dexy are also pretty deep into ESO and while they seemed a little more "maybe" about it, I dont know if they really want to come back to STO for the PvP.

I might, here and there. Im already max level and nearly max geared on ESO with my main char, so its just alt-itis and whatever I feel like doing, but I doubt the five/six of us over there would be regular or anything resembling it here.

There was more to it than ESO for me btw. I was slowly but surely getting completely burned out on this game, i refuse to grind anymore, not to mention completely pissed when they made huge sweeping changes to the reps and some of the mechanics of powers and whatnot. The last three months I played (feb, march, april) saw some of the biggest changes to fundamental game mechanics I have ever seen in any MMO.

The "duo" queue was the final nail in that coffin. It was alright when it was us fighting each other, but when i started seeing the exploit premades getting their full teams into the queue (yes i know that was fixed recently) it occurred to me that no matter what cryptic does, there are elements of our PvP playerbase here that will always do everything in their power to make the PvP experience as unfun as possible for anyone they face.

They should have just kept it solo pug. That would have been just fine. I loved pugging it back in the day before I got into premade matches.

So for me this has been a well needed break before I began to legitimately hate the game and uninstall it. One frustration after another was really wearing down any resolve I had left to stay ahead of the "curve" regarding gear+setup and group synergy. I was sick of it every single match.

So theres always that chance ill sign in for a few matches. Depends on what the other guys are doing in ESO (if they need me for something or we planned to do XYZ or whatever.)

I played a little last night, as i said earlier in the thread, so its not out of the picture, but I dont expect most of the others to be as into it as me. We burned for almost a solid year before this, and even I was getting burned out tbh.

So we shall see, I do feel bad that you got semi-abandoned, we are on Vice TS almost every night though, youve always been welcome in our channel.

No. It's a crossfaction queue like all space stuff. They even removed the Map with the KDF Base. (I don't know about ground, might be same.) Or what do you mean by factions? Red and Blue Team aren't factions.
