Questions re: preparing for profession changes

drartwhodentdrartwhodent Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 305 Arc User
So, I have heard that profession assets will be converted to new 'stuff'.
Will this be automatic on first log in after the new mod, or will it be when you first walk into your new profession 'shop', or do you have to tell it 'manually'?
Basically, will I have time to mail workers and tools around or should I have that done before mod 15 hits?
I have 20 level 70 characters, all with at least 3 professions at 20-25, but most are running 9 leadership tasks with 9 heros each.
Would it be more advantageous to spread my workers and tools around from the few characters that have many 'other' workers and tools, or keep the extra workers and tools consolidated on those few?
And what about resources? Are those going to be converted to some new 'stuff' also?
Should I spread things like my unified elements around or keep the 90+ I have on my alchemy alt that made them?
Also, what is going to happen to profession sub-boxes from old lockboxes?
Will they give the new currencies or whatever, or still give workers and tools that you can sell on the AH, send to an alt, or convert at our leisure?

    There is a Q & A thread here: https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/neverwinter#/discussion/1242676

To answer your question more directly, this is taken from that thread:
    asterdahl said:

So what does that mean for how assets convert over to the new system? Well, because for instance, one single epic artisan in the old system does not come close to being as valuable as a single epic artisan in the new system, you will be able to exchange your existing assets for a currency. That currency will allow you to purchase a comparable amount of assets in the new system, redistributing them however you please.

This doesn't sound like an automatic conversion to me, so we should be able to transfer our existing assets to give one character more or less stuff to trade in for that currency, and I wouldn't be surprised if we could transfer the new assets, either.

Still a lot to read in that other thread, though, so if I am off-base here then I may discover it as I read further.

    Edit: I was off-base a little.
Conversion is automatic according to further reading, but the vouchers that you get can be mailed to your other characters.

The result is the same; Each of your characters will have as much or as little of a head-start as you choose to give them within the limit of the total amount of what obsolete crafting resources (the current resources) that they had when the change hits.

There is so much information in that thread, and trying to repeat it all here would just duplicate it with another thread to track - so no. I know it is painful to go through, but if you focus on the dev's responses, and the items in red or cyan, you will get the gist of it to date...

Might is not always right - the powerful sometimes forget that.

Preview is broken, we don't know anything

We know what we are being told.

We might not be able to go to preview and test everything fully ourselves right now, and I know that that can go a long way towards helping people understand things, but there is a lot of information in that thread to help give us an idea of how things are going to be after the change.

And certainly enough info for me to answer the OP's question.

When I was last on preview, the professions seem to be just fine. Everyone crying about Leadership, well it has been replaced with gathering. It is my opinion, the only reason to fear the new professions is ignorance of the facts. Whenever Preview is up and running again, I recommend you try it for yourself and don't take my opinion or other opinions over your own judgement.

I like the new profession system. There I said it.

This is coming from someone with 20 maxed leadership toons that farmed it for all it’s worth. I realize this will massively nerf my income... but I still like the new system.

It’s bugged on preview - can’t get past the intro quest due to bug in collecting from the box, but I worked all the way up to level 3 workshop before the bugged patch a couple weeks ago. It will be a massive grind no doubt. However, the change will be a good change for the game overall, even if it will sort of suck for me personally.

It’s a huge gold sink, especially coupled with the fact that potions and skill kits will no longer drop from mobs. Gold will becomes useful for a change in M15, so hope you’re stockpiling it.... again, though: Good change. Gold needed to be valuable.

Just a tip, if you have storage alts, collect their VIP rewards daily as well. Scrolls can be sold for Gold.

So far, I get these tips:
    1. stock up gold
    2. stock up potion
    3. stock up VIP scrolls (I happened to have that idea last night too).

What is the best approach to deal with profession personnel and asset? Make them all purple? keep 4 blue instead? Buy more? Sell them ASAP?

According to info from before the bug there is no change in value from green to blue. (blue is worth 4x as much) Purple is a much higher value that 4 blues, however. Combine everything to maximize the number of epic assets but don't worry about leftover green and blues. If you have 4 greens and 3 blues, combine to 1 purple. If you only had 2 blues to start with, leave it alone.

You mean ID scrolls? Aren't they bound to account?

They're bound to character, and they can still be sold to vendor for gold. I believe you can actually also sell the keys. Personally, I'd rather keep the scrolls and sell the stuff I identify with them.

@pitshade was talking about selling VIP id scroll obtained by storage alt which typically would not have anything to identify. I did not make my storage alt to get the id scroll/key because I did not plan to play them and the id scroll takes one slot away from my storage alt. Now, there is an incentive to do so.

I ran all of my storage alts to Barovia and got the free gear. I run Leveling queue with the sometimes, MotH and Dread Legion are actually challenging and fun like that. In mod 15, you can get AD and use the Key/Reroll on the chests there.

Your storage alt is not the same storage alt as mine. Hence, yours can use the id scroll on their own.
My storage alt is level 4 for pure storage purpose, no invocation, no leadership. They stay in PE and only allows summer and winter travel vacation. :)

Thank you all for the comments and info.
I am working my way thru the Q & A thread.
I am glad to see that gold will have more value soon.
I had been selling stacks of VIP scrolls, mostly just to keep room available in my bags.
I will have to check to see if the epic keys can be sold also, all my alts have over 1k of those that will never be used.

Ahhh, OK. Some of my alts really don't get gear to identify. When I'm storing more than a stack of scrolls, I sell the full stack and keep the partial stack. I've always picked up the daily rewards on them because I figured why not? I might eventually gear and play them, and then they've got ID scrolls and epic keys. I do invocations on them, too, because that's useful and helpful. Though sometimes I wish I could resist that, but it just feels too much like refusing benefits that cost almost no time to claim.

I know but I need to draw the line somewhere. I have 12 level 70 characters and I play 6 of them (actively everyday). All 12 do invocation, leadership, etc. i.e. I more or less login to these 12 everyday. I also have another 8 pure storage characters whom I purposely left them at level 4 so that I would not tempt to do anything with them no matter what. 12 already reaches my 'limit'. 20 will really hurt. I have another 15 empty character slots that I have not used.

Not all of us can, don't have space on SSD for a second copy of the game.

My question would be whether if I'm going to exchange guild marks for crafting mats (at the SH buildings, bloomery etc where I can buy the normal non MC mats many for 1 guild mark) is it best to do that before or after the release
  • sandukutupusandukutupu Member Posts: 2,285 Arc User
@minotaur2857 you hire a retainer who basically buys all your old crafting supplies/tools with coupons. You then redeem the coupons for new crafting supplies/tools. Where the female crafting merchant is currently located in the mall, a new male supply merchant is there in M15. He has a much larger list of crafting items you can buy. My jewel crafter will enter as a level 57 in jewel crafting able to make aquamarines and lesser gems, by level 70 I can make black opals. I am unaware of any connection to guild marks other than, with the ability to create the gems, you should be able to donate them for guild marks.

I have 9 characters total. I don't know if I could do 12. Of course, if they roll out new classes, then I'll be adding new characters to try those classes out. I certainly couldn't do 20 of my own characters through invocations and everything, either. I would feel like I'm a slave to the game.

Dude - that's the truth. I play one character now, I flirted with 2 till the rAD changes came. Now its back to one and I feel so free!

10 minutes per day [as I have all the campaigns and boons done] in Neverwinter and maybe an hour or two at the weekend.

My other online time is spent pvping in a WW2 tank based game, totally absorbed by it.

BIG thanks to the DEV team for giving me very little reason to play NW :) I mean it

Just a note: VIP epic keys can not be sold to vendor.
But a stack of 999 bound id scrolls will get you about 1.5 gold.

Prices on the Preview AH are way out of whack, I'v had common items list for 500 million+ AD (which were refused as over the 100 Million AD limit). They might want to fix that part of the program too.

Are you in a guild on preview, and does any guild in your alliance have access to the bloomery/tenterground/tannery etc

Those temporary buildings are the connection to guild marks, and I don't know anybody that has one on preview to test how they work in the new mod.

Basically the question I'm asking is:

Is it better to get 15 adamant ore per guild mark at the bloomery pre mod 15, trade them with the retainer and buy stuff, or am I better saving the guild marks and just buying the stuff at the bloomery post mod 15.

No I am not in a guild on Preview. When you join preview, it just copies the character and not the guild or bank, thus I doubt there is anyone in a guild leveled high enough to own those structures. I am unaware how this will be handled.
