Thank you for posting! I was pretty sure it was in fact Fed-only. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going crazy! Kinda nuts that I/We all gotta perform such a workaround, but our teamspeak members came up with the same solution.

The only "bug" in the mission is you get the notification to look for the Iconian objective 1 freighter late. If you retrieve the objective from the 2nd freighter (Before the mission gives you the actual objective), you will stilll get credit for it as a Delta Recruit at the end of the mission.
