Why don't science ships gain a weapon slot just like the cruisers/escorts do at Rear Admiral level? They are the only class to be gimped at that level, each class gains everything the same (hull +20%, boff slot, console slot) except the science class which remains behind with the same weapon loadout as it had at Captain…
