  • Like I said before Law of averages doesn't work that way. Based on old wiki info, the odds of getting the top prize are roughly .5% or 1/50. Granted, there is no guarantee that if you open 50 lockboxes, you would win the top prize (and probably you wouldn't). But the way statistics works even if the odds don't change…
  • Yeah, it looks like I missed a comment that was edited out before I got here. Which was the cause of my confusion. But thank you for explaining all that. It makes tigeraries post make sense now.
  • What are you talking about? A savings of $100 is the same as $100 off. The sale price is $199.99 same as it has always been.
  • I would think law of averages would take effect after 100000 boxes and you would probably win a ship or two. Actually I think someone did the statistical math before on how far you could go with literally not winning the ship before statistics dictates you your odds gradually approach certain. I don't remember what the…
  • So if I understand this correctly, you have opened 350 boxes and never gotten a ship (even in infinity boxes). That does seem like a rather large bad luck streak, but as others have said, the odds are less then 1% that you get the "Big prize". So yeah, I think the most odds are usually Duty officer recruitments or mark…
  • Yeah, as far as the Alien creator goes, it is almost exclusively face only. So things that are distinct like less then 5 fingers aren't going to work on the alien gen.
  • Pretty much what everyone has said. Admittedly I have a lot of characters. Some are basically Dil farms, so I don't really worry about them. I might run a new FE or two on one, because some happen to be level 60. But otherwise, they are for dil and nothing more. As for ones i actually care about. I only play about 2-3 at…
  • Which is pretty standard in MMOs. And why I specifically mentioned NPCs, Because NPCs are typically built from the ground up, they can be non-standard. Which is where you get non-humanoid species like the Undine and Tholians. But for a Playable species, they need to work with the Uniform/gear system. Which means you can't…
  • You have to remember, Star Trek is based largely around the TV series. I am pretty sure they didn't even use computer generated ships until DS9. Everything else was basically Models in the vain of the original star wars trilogy. That level of technology extended to the Aliens as well. Because you had to basically have a…
  • There are various vanity shields which give diffferent hull options, Not sure if any of them are red, or even the "bright red" you are looking for but I would say check it out.
  • They have said, for the moment, it is only 12 inch. Also Small craft (i.e. the Peregrine) is not possible. As for the Iconian ships. They mentioned in the stream that there are approximately 10-15 ships, That are not included. They didn't mention which 15 specifically, but they mentioned that ships with "floating" parts,…
  • Keep in mind, I am a PC player, so there might be some minor differences. That said, If I remember correctly, it isn't a "Special Place" like the normal FEs. It simply reintroduces the old rewards. So you need to go to the missions in normal order (assuming you have completed them), Others have listed them, and there…
  • I think the original poster meant in game, as far as coloring starships. With regards to the 3d models, I would assume if you got the unpainted version, you could paint it whatever colors you want. So I can only assume the original comment meant with regards to the in-game ships. I would assume the "more options and…
  • Well, yes and no. While yes, there is speculation in the thread, it is kind of a "if you could do it all again what would you do". So while it is fine to "dream big", I likewise don't see a problem with pointing out when an idea is impractical, even in most hypothetical situations. Which is why I am not a fan of Branch…
  • Lots of people have discussed the idea of "Branch" stories. While I would love to see certain events referenced in other factions (why is there no mention on the Klingon side of B'vat suddenly "disappearing"), if I understand what you are saying, true branching storylines are rather tricky even with "unlimited" resources.…
  • Which is why I made the caveat that there were assumptions that needed to be made in some faction. The fact is, if we are assuming everything is as it was at the beginning, I would do one of two things. either a) ditch the second faction idea all together and just do the Federation, or b) scrap the whole idea entirely and…
  • Short answer is time and money. The Foundry is a limited scope entity that doesn't take into account the diverse gameplay that goes into creating new content at a clip the playerbase would except. Creating anything in game, takes time and resources. Even with the Foundry, I good mission, or set up can take days to two…
  • Honestly, even if we pretend I have all the resources and freedoms to "do it right" I still would have stuck to Federation/Klingon as the two factions (assuming for the sake of the discussion you have to have two factions). If the Romulan Republic is any indication, it is clear the community would rather have a "Faction…
  • Yeah so: Was basically what I was trying to say. Though maybe I could have phrased it better. The original comment I quoted made it sound like Explorations could never happen unless it could be in the C-Store. But there are plenty of things in this game that aren't directly purchasable and some are even free. So it isn't…
  • Yeah, I am not sure where Dan is these days, so that might be hard. :P In all seriousness, I would leave the dev ships up to the devs. I agree it would be a nice idea, depending on the ship. To see (and possibly own) what kind of ships the devs fly. Though, like you said, it would probably be an after thing.
  • Fair enough. But that doesn't mean the exploration itself wouldn't be free. Which was my original point. There are multiple ways for Cryptic to "make money" on something. So not EVERYTHING has be to thrown in the C-store/Lockboxes to justify development costs.
  • People keep saying this and fail to realize there are multiple ways to "justify the development costs". If your base assumption were true, we would never get seasons or expansions in this game, because since they are free, their is no "justification for development costs". Money can come from multiple sources, every time…
  • Yeah, I tried as best I could to account for all that. Like I said, custom ships seem to be based on data in-game. So whatever is in game is what you are getting. So if you want a custom ship, you are stuck with whatever is in game. That is my understanding. Like I said with the stock ships, it didn't sound like they were…
  • As I understand it, NPC ships are not on the table. The way the system works is the game sends the data based on your selected ship, so it is based solely on ships you own in-game. Likewise, since the information is based on in-game, I am guessing non-standard registries are not possible. I suppose it is possible they…
  • From the stream, it sounds like they have at least considered the idea. However it was more complicated then gettting the ships. Not sure if that means we will ever actually see it. But at least they looked into it, so here is hoping. I will admit, I find the idea interesting. Though I will definitely be looking at getting…
  • as I understand from the stream. The answer is no. These are solid models, so things like Saucer Seperation (in the Galaxy's case) or the multi-vector mode of the Promethus, etc. is not possible on these.
  • It would depend on what you mean by Kitbashing. If you mean adding parts not existing in game, like Andorian Escort wings to a Defiant hull, then no. My understanding is you can only do ship possible in STO. Now, based on how they described it, it sounds like, with a few exception, any ship in game can be printed.
  • I am not sure I would classify most as "patronizing". People are just skeptical, because we have been down this road before. Given the amount of notice Cryptic had before the last company closed its doors, it is not unreasonable to consider the same MIGHT happen again. Granted, I fully expect Cryptic took time to vet this…
  • Like was said here: Given the little information we have, If you have the ship, they will most likely have a way to 3d print it. That said, it sounds like they have one size for all ships. So Just because you want the "J" ship, don't expect it to be big just because the size is big relative to other ships in game. the 3d…
  • I am going to go with the "cautiously skeptical" route. Don't get me wrong, as an idea, I love it. I will totally be taking advantage of it to print out my ships. But as said by others, we HAVE been down this road before, and it ended in tears. Not getting my hopes up until it is a real thing this time.
