I have exactly the same problem. But I am using a bluetooth speaker, when I startup STO my sound is being directed to the build in speakers of the laptop. When I try to disable the laptop speakers, I get no sound at all. Any help is welcome. Thanks EDIT: Found a solution, go to settings and disable voice chat.
