In terms of immersion it would tame some time to make a phaser beam array. On the other side of the coin, how does putting a pile of dilithium onto the partially constructed phaser make it finish instantly?

You can send duty officers to mine dilithium. There are actual miner doffs at the fleet dil mine and 2 mining missions to send them on. The difference in xp is currently exaggerated. As an arbitrary example, the difference between 1 and 5 is 4. If you double the numbers to 2 and 10, the difference is 8. When the xp goes back to normal the patrols will still give probably more xp than asventure zones, but the gap will be smaller.

I haven't tried but can one switch to a different interior with that ship? I think on my breen ship I switched to the TOS interior. I might be wrong about which ship I did it to, but it can be done with some ships. If it can't be done then it should be added since it would be a simple way to put a bandaid on the issue.

They are getting their TRIBBLE figured out. You said it yourself, some are fine and some aren't. Apparently cryptic has solved half of their player's lag and disconnects. And in 5 more years I'm sure the second half will be fixed.

It has been revamped. Last I checked that mission where we could get dilithium after 3 arena fights has a long cd now. Before you could keep getting it and entering pvp arenas and slaughtering unfortunate noobs. Or that was the case months ago when I checked last. Might have changed since then.

If you read the info window of the torp is says that part gens do affect it. Right click on it and select info from the drop down list. (I thinks the word is "info". Something like that.)
