My brother was having this issue, he was failing to activate the race, as he assumed showing up at the starting line was sufficient. You also have to ''join" the races before they start. My two cents is that there is little reason for anyone to 'experiment' with the new system once it finally goes live. I believe the majority of players are going to 'wait and see', or 'clone' their current setups.
