I've actually (successfully) used my Tuffti freighter in a few sector alerts. I'd love to have an armed freighter / smuggler ship among my fleet.

While MAC addresses can be spoofed, endlessly requiring verifications (especially when the automatic emails aren't sent within half an hour) can cause many users to disable Arc's "security defender", thus rendering it equally moot. Not a good reason. Why not give users the choice?

I would suggest adding a character flag / achievement to the different storylines. Once your character has passed into the Borg chain, for instance, they're no longer still doing content in the Klingon War - so, it would make sense at that point to open up some cross-faction goodies.
