How are these supposed to work? Like shuttles? Considering we only have 1 mission designed for that mechanic, I cant say I'm too thrilled. But maybe someone will develop a shuttle/fighter based Foundry series

We'd first need to be able to set a gate on the mission entry door to only allow shuttles...

That would be nice, but isnt necessary. The author can state in the mission journal that the mission is designed for shuttles, and people who are literate can switch to their shuttle. Those who arent can play with their normal ships.
Never was a fan of the Peregine, it looks pretty cool. But I hope to see some more Cryptic custom made ones, maybe something that looks like the Valkyre.

We at least know they can use dual cannons, so fighters will be the "escorts" of the tinyships.
I've seen the Klingon Fighter before, since it's essentially the fighter from the Vo'quv. I made sure to capture some for my demo I used to compare the ship sizes. So I'll already have it on my chart.
This version looks like it may be more detailed, though. It'll be nice to actually be able to fly around in one, I think.
The Peregrine looks pretty spot on, too.
I do wonder if the Kar'Fi's fighters will eventually be available.
I am not complaining but . When were there fighters in Star Trek? Was I absent that day?
during DS9, cant remember the episode but its during the big battle where none of the ships seem to have their shields up...you can see a number of squadrons of fighters on the Federation Side slipping into the Dominions lines.

I think they have a couple of shots of actual Federation fighter wings in the DS9 episode Sacrifice of Angels in one of the opening Fleet shots. Wesley was also flying one in the TNG episode The First Duty.
The class was only named once but the Peregrine model showed up as a Maquis Interceptor a few times as well.
It's similar looking but not quite the same as the Maquis ship that got stranded in the Delta Quadrant with Voyager.
I think there's a general presumption that most or all Maquis ships are Bajoran or Starfleet designs and were commandeered by Maquis crews to use against the Cardassians.

the sacrifice of angels.
the fighters have been in since the episode the maquis, but where classed as modified shuttles at the time. then for some reason starfleet started using them as actual attack ships.
as for having no shields, this was often done as a design choice for different episodes. sometimes they had shields, sometime they did not.
when there was large scale battles, all these blue orbs going off would look silly, so they just ignored them.
i hope they have some sort of increased difficulty to hit based on range of target, like, when a fighter is close range you'd have a tough time hitting it, but when its far away your chances would go up, to even normal.
at least this way you can go "woooo yea" while skimming an enemy ship, before you get blown to pieces by A: getting to far away from said ship or B: his big bad friend decided to slap the musquito off its buddy's face.
would seem fair wouldnt it ?
i hope somehow these fighters (if you have any) will be used by duty officers in the future. or provide a bonus to certain missions if you own one/crafted one.
I like the idea, BTW, of small craft getting an extra dodge chance at close range. I'm a melee player at heart. I even fight at close range in my escort.
I'd really dig it if small craft became the "melee range" crafts that we could use in combat against larger ships rather than segregated into their own mission category.
There was even a jet fighter in TOS when the Enterprise went back in time. America scrambled fighters to intercept it and they had to beam the pilot on board to save his life. He hit their shields or something.
There was also Bajoran fighters Kira and Dax flew in one episode.

That TOS Jet Fighter (with matching jumpsuit) should be in game!

Would love to see those Bajoran ships in game.
That was a non-space capable fighter jet from the 1960s.
Maybe if we has the option to play in vehicles vs. personnel in ground combat, with fighters, shuttles, planes, cars, the Argo, etc.
IBut not in space, IMHO.
I would love ground vehicle combat, though, and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it if we had more large ground maps like the one in Coliseum with the option to use shuttles and ground vehicles. And would especially love, love, love it if we could:
- Visit Kirk's stable inside the Nexus and steal a couple of his horses for mounted ground play.
- Time travel back to the 60s, team up with Gary Seven, and steal a car vaguely resembling a 57 Chevy that Tom Paris would drool over to fight Communists and Iconians, then have that car as a multipassenger ground vehicle option alongside things like an Argo.
I think ground and air vehicles pitted against people on foot would be great and there's a lot of really wild directions that could take, including anachronistic vehicles since everyone in Trek loved old cars and jets and a car against a person on foot vs. an argo against a person on foot or a plane with phasers vs. a shuttlecraft solely in relatively low altitudes should have a substantially lower amount of disparity in effectiveness than starships hundreds of years apart would.
Y'know what would be cool as a low altitude fighter? A Trekked out helicopter-style design.

Here is the kind of stuff we /should/ be seeing:

The Bajoran fighters look really awesome. I'm going to love flying the Klingon fighter too .
I'd love to see those in game along with the Valkyrie fighters.:)
