I respect the opinions of those who dont like the ships design. I only like 2 and hate the rest. However I would like to remind some posters on here that they are not the keepers of what is Star Trek and what isnt. Who is to say that the Federation wouldnt experiment with different designs? They most certainly would. After all the federation is a place of fast diversity. The defiant looked like nothing else when it came out. So we know that they infact did try different things. They had to if for no other reason to defend themselves from the Borg. I also would like to remind some people that Paramount and CBS decide what is is Star Trek not you. You can either like it or hate a particular thing that is up to you. If you actually lived in the future and were a member of the federation their would be things that you did not like or approve of that went on in the federation. So get over it.:D
I'm not a fan of the ships that were linked to. I'm for new ships being added though. I'd prefer the Devs added something else rather than add those to the game.

Ok, I'm back. I'm sorry, that Excalibur is just horrible.
I don't like most of the escorts... they all just look like slightly contorted NXs except for the Sakegewea.
The holes in the hull are just plain silly aesthetically and pragmatically. It seems like a case of designers trying too hard to be new age-y. It looks weird; it isolates crew from one section to the next by forcing them to take the long way around; it wastes resources since you obviously have to have shielding in areas where there's no hull; it makes the ships just as large from end to end without the benefits of having useful stations, crew, consoles, anything else you might place in areas cut out by the holes. Unknown cruiser just looks like voyager with holes. Tahoe really looks like Voyager to me, but it is nice. I'm not nuts about all the hull plating, but that's just a skin thing like the last hull option we get now in the editor.
For the most part, I'm really glad Cryptic didn't use those ships. No insult to the awesome Eaves, as ENT-E is a marvel. I do agree with everyone that some 2409 ships should show up at some point.

The farther down the list you go, the better they look, to me. I think we need more 25th century ships in the game, for certain.
I suppose after the Design Ent-F goes through the devs will start working on new designs, based off of the better hulls turned in for that contest. In doing so, they are giving us what we want on top of what we want, because /we/ made them. Not Perpetual.
I can only speak for myself but i think that there are some good Starship design ideas (not only here but in general) but most designers just do too much, like adding holes or Armor plates just unnecessary details, therefore some ships don't look like Starfleet ships anymore IMHO.
I think it is time that we get new Ship costumes for most T5 Ship classes.
For comparison, the choices we have at the character editor (tailor) are far greater than we have at the ship editor, althrough we nearly see both our character and our ship 50% of the game time.
So please Devs, we desperatly need more (good looking) choices at the ship tailor.

Something that looks very similar in shape to the Excaliber is already in game... If you look at the wrecked ship that is tumbling lazily when you enter some DSEs, you see a very Excaliber like ship...
I always think it's a fitting tribute to Perpetual's STO that one of their ship designs is burning solemnly in space.
I like some of the smaller designs. Phoenix would make for a good Starfleet Repair Tender. For towing those wrecks off the space maps on Elite setting. But not as an Escort.
Sacagawea displays a Runabout-style cockpit above the photon launcher. So as a small fighter craft I like it.
Nelsen looks like a logical extension of the Defiant tech. And would make a nice and fast escort.
However, I'm not really fond of the designs with holes in them. IMO, Constellation Variant 1 is horrible as a Starfleet vessel. But modified further with original nacelles and it would make a great alien starship in random DSE's.
The science ship with the ring in the aft? Reminds me too much of a Trade Federation ship from the newer Star Wars films. Now make that ring a Vulcan warp ring lying flat? Then we have a Star Trek design.

That ring is the front at least I think its the front Z3R0B4NG posted a link to more images one is an illustration of that ship from the front bottom and top its got a whole underbelly with nacelles that you dont see in the other images looks better with the extra parts. there are a few other ones in there that look rather nice also like the explorer. Also I wonder how the excalibur would look if the neck was compressed down like unknown cruiser 01
I do not recall the thread, but someone on the forums once referred to this ship as a "dog dragging its butt across the floor". I tend to agree.
When everyone thinks this, including someone who's never seen the design until just now... my advice is to take the hint gracefully, drop it in the trash, and never speak of it again.

Okay, seeing all views of the science ship...eww. Not for Starfleet. Take the Starfleet bridge off it. Adapt that ship for random encounters in an exploration cluster and its good to go.

I think it is one of those designs which can be good or real bad by just doing a little detail wrong.
This is apparently the same ship class but with another hull and other Nacelles, it seems as if they planned to have a similar modular Starship building editor as we have it now.
