Perpetual just spent to much time getting there.

Yes, so Perpetual failed. Cryptic took what they did, built on it, threw out all the crappy ship designs that Perpetual came up with and created something new and better.

I don't understand the attraction of the Tahoe. It looks too close to existing designs, like it can't decide if it's a Sovereign or an Intrepid. I'm not sure it's close enough to either to work as a skin.

.... which many folks are probably enjoying.... LoL .... Luv that quote....

Even if it is close to something else..., wouldn't having more Variants in game make things more interesting...???

It's that you possibly, could have realized and done it in a Better Fashion.

LOL... Pretty much everything in the game....

...Is Borrowed and/or Copied from Existing Trek Designs...

    There really isn't anything New...

    Yep.

So what Trek do you like??

The Original Series. The Next Generation. The movies up to the 6th. Those were good ship designs. Sleek and futuristic, with a lot of thought put into them.

Nelson, Sakegewea( as a shuttle) and Tahoe maybe. The rest, they just look a bit to much of a departure from established designs, especially the Excalibur.

Also for all those saying they like 'unknown cruiser two' there are two ships in that image, a Galaxy-X and a Nova class...

...last I checked they were both in game already

A lot of people (including me) have wanted to see these ships introduced. Not only would it add a bit more variety to the game but these were designed by John Eaves of all people. I'm not sure how the licensing and property rights went but I would imagine Cryptic has the current usage rights to these designs if anyone.

Exactly, I would love to see these added.

Nemesis, it was'nt just the enterprise designer who designed some of these. It was also John Eaves creator of the:
    -Sovereign class
    -Mogai / Valdore Romulan warbird
    -Enterprise-B type excelsior
    -The Scimitar
    -The Breen Warships
    -The Son'a's ships
    -various DS9 ships

I would say he has quite an official view on Star Trek ship designs;)

I am down for new high level ships.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I loved a lot of the old perpetual concept art.

I think the Sackagewa would be a large shuttle akin to the captains yacht or runabout.

I especially love the Unknown cruiser 1. The same basic design showed up in early videos of the game, but never materialized int he final product. I was very dissapointed.

The Excalibur though, is one of those ships that while I like it has a problem that a lot of ships have. From one angle it is gorgeous, but from another it looks fugly. Voyager had this same problem and it always bothered me.

I will agree with the comments that these ships were very spot on for future trek. Even the Tahoe, which seems far to BSG to me, works on a context of an experimental vessel testing an alternative design approach. As a quick plug for Suriciata's blog, he has a post talking about a tour of Perpetual studios he was involved in several years, Read it here.. Lots of great pictures.

    TL;DR /Signed

The ships look to rugged. Curves are Starfleet, with some exceptions. The Constellation is the closest thing, but that's because it already exists, I think, and looks to similar to the heavy cruisers.

    I'm all for these.

Heck, I think some of them look far better than some of Cryptics design.

The main problem with saying they are too rugged is that STO already has ships in game such as the Envoy that are rugged and ugly. I think almost every design here looks better than that monstrosity.

yeah, I'm not saying the rugged complaint isn't valid. The problem is there already so many ships in-game that are like that, it doesn't matter.

Cerain designs, I see would be skins for other ships, i.e constellation variants. Whereas others, like Excalibur and unknown cruiser 2 (to name a few) should be separate classes.

I like the Nelson and Ramjet the best.

Though personally I don't see why they couldn't or shouldn't be added, even if their just costumes for existing models. I'd like to see more variety.

The Excalibur would need to be redesigned, particularly the neck and secondary hull.

The Constellation.....the first variant, no its nothing like a StarFleet vessel beyond the nacelles. The second variant would need alittle overhauling, namely the nacelles and pylons.

The Tahoe is fine the way it is, probably fall in with the Akira/Discovery/Cochrane Class ships.

Unknown Crusier 1. Fill in the holes. I feel like a ship like that is just asking to be torn to shreds.....atleast when a ship has an actual hull, personell can fall back to safety when the ship starts taking damage....a ship like that would take heavy loses and just doesnt seem like a very smart design tactically speaking.

Unknown Cruiser 2. Maybe its just me, but it looks a hellof alot like a Galaxy thats been given a Galaxy X like twist to it..But otherwise its just a Galaxy R.

Sakegewea I can see that as a PT-Boat of StarFleet and would easily fall in with the Escorts.

The Nelson looks more like somekind of StarFleet Lifeboat or Dropship for ground troops. But not a gunship.

The Ramjet, change the name. But aside from that it looks like another Escort that could find its way in with the Sakegewea.

The Phoenix, while I would never be caught dead flying that ugly thing. It does seem to have a StarFleet Ugly-Duckling feel to it and I could see it being utilized in the Fleet.

Unknown Science Ship. Am I missing something here? Oh, the Nacelles and again with the holes.

And is it just me or is more and more of these ships look like heavy warships then the smooth and graceful StarFleet vessels weve come to know and love. Even the ugly-ducklings from the series were less imposing then these ships.

What you think you know is wrong, because I have reported posts that have not been moderated afterward.

But you have reported posts that had nothing wrong with them, that did get moderated, and the reported person had to send off emails and get the infraction reversed. 8')

Wrong is a personal opinion. Its up to the mods to decide if the reported post is actually a violation of the rules. If you got in trouble for something that wasnt really a violation, thats the mods fault for not knowing how to do their job. And if if your talking about a personal experience than you are breaking the forum rules by discussion moderation.

The ship outside the window is a battle damaged galaxy x. You can see the center pylon and the lance as well as the modification on the pylon the nacelle is being removed from.

Just refuting the nothing would happen if nothing was wrong with the post statement. Not the moderation which worked out fine in the end. .............. anyway as I pointed out above looks like Galaxy X's were on the perpetual list.

Shouldn't we got back to topic, before this thread gets closed?

Well i am not a big fan of those ships, but this game desperatly needs more alternative ship parts at the ship tailor.

Many of us are just flying their ships not because they like them, but because they like their BO stations. Personally i would love to use a Star Cruiser, but i hate their low firepower and their low maneuverability.

So if we had more ship costumes and ship parts at the ship Tailor to choose from, STO would be much more fun.

I wish that the Devs would remove those childish looking armor plates, fill the holes and give us those ship parts to make something great out of them.

    Thank you for reading.

I've got one more to add:

    http://johneaves.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/trekking-with-stuart-blair/

It could be a Sci or an Escort.;)

I really like this ship. Its a new aggressive take on the miranda or akira. To me it feels like a tactical leaning ship. like you have suggested as one possibility. Thumbs waaay uuuupppp!

For the record my character is a Tac :p.

I believe, if I remember correctly form reading stuff on the net, that the Dev's working on designs during that time period were doing that on purpose.

Mainly because of the fact that the game takes place during a period of time, in which the Federation is at war... (again).

*sticks a fork in the light socket to refrain from making a dog comment...

Ok, I'm back. I'm sorry, that Excalibur is just horrible.

I don't like most of the escorts... they all just look like slightly contorted NXs except for the Sakegewea.

The holes in the hull are just plain silly aesthetically and pragmatically. It seems like a case of designers trying too hard to be new age-y. It looks weird; it isolates crew from one section to the next by forcing them to take the long way around; it wastes resources since you obviously have to have shielding in areas where there's no hull; it makes the ships just as large from end to end without the benefits of having useful stations, crew, consoles, anything else you might place in areas cut out by the holes. Unknown cruiser just looks like voyager with holes. Tahoe really looks like Voyager to me, but it is nice. I'm not nuts about all the hull plating, but that's just a skin thing like the last hull option we get now in the editor.

For the most part, I'm really glad Cryptic didn't use those ships. No insult to the awesome Eaves, as ENT-E is a marvel. I do agree with everyone that some 2409 ships should show up at some point.
