Those are probably intentional, since no one can use the exact spellings of the hero ships.
Personally, I find the names some people give their ships rather amusing. I saw a USS Starscream last night coming out of the Coliseum episode (I've named one of my ships the USS Grimlock, so I'm not totally innocent of the charges ).
I dunno, I saw a USS Exitprise once, I thought that was pretty clever.
I'll give you that one - but on the whole, most ship names are unoriginal and/or quite dull. Then again, it works very nicely as a warning system - people with unoriginal/unclever names means GO AWAY.
I'm bugged by all the TARDISes and Chimaeras I've been seeing. Now Chimaera on its own is a good name, but when you make your captain out to be Grand Admiral Thrawn, then you're just being an idiot.
I just stick with old Capital Ship names from various historical and current navies. The name I am sick of seeing is all teh Serenity's and Malcom Reynolds flitting about. Which is bad since I am in The Firefly Fleet at Serenity station.
I think my earlier ships for my Gorn character could be annoying; especially for the one naming them, as I had no idea what to call a ship captained by a Gorn, let alone Klingon names!
Personally, I don't like the "enterprise", "voyager", "defiant" replicas, but...I don't mind some of the lesser-known ships. I myself have the USS Malinche - A (a reference to the Excelsior-class Malinche seen in DS9's "For the Uniform"). I consider that a tribute to a good ship / episode.
A good tribute is recognizeable without being too obvious. "USS Odyssey" (the Galaxy-class ship destroyed by the Dominion) or the Potempkin and Hood (two ships that Riker served on before the Enterprise), or Melbourne (ship offered to Riker, later destroyed in Wolf 359). Naming your ship after those is a tribute, but it's not overly obvious.
Depends on my mood at the time of naming, but on my Tactical Admiral the ship is named Thunderchild (both as a nod to the ship from War of the Worlds, and the one mentioned in Star Trek). Then I also name ships after towns and counties from Ireland.
On my science captain I recently named the ships after scientists who advanced science, though my current intrepid is just called the USS Science. Not sure why....but meh.

My main's ship is the U.S.S. Kearsarge, which was a ship mentioned, but not seen in the episode "Firstborn" (TNG). I actually named it after the Civil War sloop of the same name, but it's a nice, if unintentional, nod to the series.
My other ships have (at least to my knowledge) no corresponding ship in Trek canon:
IKS Drahkos II
USS Albemarle II
USS Atlantis
IKS Anat
I remember when I named my ship at headstart it seemed orginal enough for me, the Constitution for the old frigate, which in turn is named for the US Constitution, Im 90% certain I was the first to use the name or at least one of the first and I hit the random name button a lot and it easnt there. Now cryptic added it to the random name generator and while I dont see them often I see others with the name for no reason other then they hit random till they found it.
To paraphrase Lurr of Omicron Persei 8 "This random button confuses and infuriates us!"
When the MVAM comes, I'm rechristening my Prometheus class the USS Gae Bolg.
 ALERT! ALERT! Final Fantasy reference detected! Terminate with excessive force!
Now then....
I know I said I hate random names, but I did name my Miranda class the U.S.S. Carniciera, which if I spelled it correctly, translates into "Butcher Shop", in English.
I'm guilty of the original-yet-kinda-rude ship naming crime. All of my ships are the USS Deez Nutz I thru XX. All of my shuttles/runabouts are named after exploding/horribly ugly cars. Wave if you see the USS AMC Pacer or the USS Ford Pinto cruise by. With the Pinto, I'd keep your distance, thou.

Watch the CSI:Vegas episode from Two weeks ago, it'll sooth your nerves in that regards
THEADMRALKIRK
USSENE$RPRISE
although for legal reasons i dont know why.

For examples: My Advanced Escort is named the Wave Eagle, my Fleet Escort is the Wave Eagle II, and my Danube is the Eagle's Chick.
The ones I hate the most? Random names, like the U.S.S. Macadamea, or the U.S.S. Ottomotopia, or stuff like that.
Yes!!! this one made me laugh
This one would be a prime example of why there should be some taging on your ship to indicate how often it gets pawnd in PVP.

Un-original names do bore me though.
target their bridge, all weapons!!!!!!!

Yeah, me too.
Oh I did see something along the lines of USS ROFLStomp. something like that.

Mmm, tacos.
Some people who give their ships stupid names on purpose **** me off a lot.
I'm still praying that one day Cryptic finally becomes naming TRIBBLE
