  I don't like difficulties that require trial and error and the need to know exactly what to do otherwise you'll fail.
  
  Instead I like figuring things out but I have a chance of success on the first run. I like having a chance without the need to read a freakin' walkthrough. I like being on the edge of my seat but not necessarily fall off or being at the edge of death and maybe not having to die to figure it out.
  
  It's a balance. I find missions where you have to coordinate and use trial and error and stick to a script 100% to be boring. I can do it. I have done it. I just don't like it.
  
  
  
  Having to have specific setups and being so restrictive to what is needed to win is BORING. Difficulty can be presented in different ways rather than just being so tough you have to use trial and error and die a lot or read a walkthrough.

  Those who have done STFs know that there is more to it than just the use of strategies, most of it is due to the team itself. This is why STFs seem so hard is because you need the right people doing the right things at the right time.
  
  So if you have a bad team makeup, then the STFs will be impossible. If you have a good team, things will be all too easy.

  I've offered help on the forums before. I've tried to help PuGs. It comes down to this
  
  1. Everyone thinks the STFs are like every other mission in the game. They're not.
  2. Everyone who reaches the STFs only to realize they have no friends to play them with haven't teamed up on the way there, ergo they do not understand that the NPC encounters scale with level as well as player count
  3. Those players who play the STFs get frustrated and whiney before they try to figure it out. Most of it is because the devs and mods are so accessible, and the community in general so vibrant, here on the forums.
  
  But the biggest fail:
  
  4. Those who don't have VoIP prgrams refuse to acknowledge, or at the very least do not pay close attention to, the chat window.

  It's really cool of you, Bigduckie, to offer help. But I don't want you telling me how I should spec, or equip, or play my character. Some of the people your trying to lure back to those missions are people who will never fit the team player mold. Its like night and day, up and down. You think its no big deal laying out a walk-through of how to and what to, but for people like me your treading where you are not allowed.

  Just something I'd like to toss out. Not sure if it's been said, didn't see it in this thread. People who are going to do STF's you must realize this is a time investment. If you do not have at minimum 2 hours to get your stuff in order, do the run, and account for time left over in case of TRIBBLE ups you may be best doing this another day. Maybe 3 hours depending on the STF. Not that they will take that long, they shouldn't. But it doesn't hurt to make sure you have enough time to run it.

  If you do not want the assistance you do not have to take it. If you can find a better or more effective way to run the STF's I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to share your experiences and strategies on the forums so others may benefit.

  The STF's are like smaller (but longer) versions of the Crystalline Entity mission. One guy can ruin the whole show. I don't want someone telling me how to spec either, and when I run missions solo, that's awesome. But when running an STF I'm part of a team. So if I'm not specced right or don't follow instructions then I'm ruining other people's fun. I'm part of the problem. You can't go into an STF with a solo mindset, and if you do then don't expect to have an easy time of it.

  The one and only reason I think it sucks that people think they're so hard is because they just nerfed infected. I like them to be hard, they're the only hard missions in the game, unless you're playing at elite. As for OP rant...this is why so many people can't seem to beat the STFs. Share knowledge!
  
  Everyone...have you ever been on an infected run where you and another guy are the only experienced players on the team? And then before you get to the second room, that guy says, "youre a bunch of noobs, I'm out!" And drops from the team? I find this unacceptable. Infected is easy with one experienced person and 3 good jumpers.
  
  The Cure? I can lead ANY team, as long as they listen to what I tell them, and we have a medic with a Bat'leth. I'll win every time. This is because I use good tactics and game mechanics to my advantage, and I share that knowledge with everyone else so they can lead a group in the future.
  
  KA...I needed help from my fleet, but I did just fine, and we had 3 sci officers. They shared the knowledge and with a couple more runs, I can lead a run too.
  
  Point being, there is more than one way to win, and when you discover it, you should share the knowledge, not blast people for not knowing.

  All I'm saying is your way may be proven, but its not the only way to do them. So telling people they're not good at something because they're not set up how you want them isn't appropriate. I have played with people who have really sucked, but after a while they learned. This is supposed to be fun and challenging, and you don't learn to run an STF without actually running them.

  Different groups require different things. If you're running the Cure with 2 Eng and 3 Tac. You need different set-ups than when you are running it with 1 Eng, 2 Sci and 2 Tac.

  1.3. Making the others in your team knowledgable will MAKE it easier. assuming your team isnt full of idiots

  Please take this in mind.
  
  If you have/ are able to get voice comms DO IT. Is it required? No. But it makes it easy on me and some others like me. I dont care if youre a girl guy tranny pig cow or effin bacon, i dont need to hear you talk i just need you to LISTEN. Help me Help you. just a little.
  
  I will ask you about everything you have. including weapons, kits, armor, and if you have a tampon in.
  I will MOST likely ask you to change a few things. Just do it. I dont hate you. I dont want to embarrass you. I just think whatever it is needs to change. do it.

  If you say you have a kit/weapon and it turns out you dont have it and your transformer keeps dropping I WILL kick you. You and people who refuse to prepare are the ones who give people doing stfs a bad taste. people think its hard when the transformers keep failing when its one person who is improperly prepared who makes the team fail. I REFUSE. I will kick you and beg a fleetmate/friend to join us and we will drop the gate in the next run through.

  Again hopefully there are people out there willing to do something akin to what im doing. I know there are those out there that do. Fireflyy, the dude from tactical fleet delta, * keep frogetting your name*, cat09 *i think*and all the others I love you all for running with groups and helping them out but it appears we are not reaching enough. so the helping stf'ers please try to ensure your groups are made up of as many new stfers as possible.
  
  yea i know its gonna be a pain. People are going to drop 20 mins in, their fingers are permanently glued to w and spacebar but its for the long run. the more people who can do this stuff = the more people who can teach.

If you are an engineer or tac in that EFFIN VULCAN TRIBBLE and youve never flown a sci ship before AND youre doing KA and YOU DONT HAVE polarize hull and you do have charge particle burst. i want to say go die but alas PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR RESPECTIVE GENITALS. ask about your build or go back to your original ship. atleast in a cruiser you will live longer,atleast in a tac you will kill ****. *hopefully*

  I agree; stfs can be little more than long missions with five people, or they can be hell on earth, depending on the team.
  
  Honestly, I don't set up for raids. I should, but I don't. I need to keep stocked with batteries and hypos. But at least I know my job, and I skim the walkthrough beforehand.
  
  Sure, I don't have the cookie cutter spec, but I enjoy the game, and I'm capable of succeeding because I pay attention.

  A player with this list would already be prepared when they meet with you and wouldn't have to run back to BGO or ESD to find out they don't have enough Merits or whatever to get it anyway.
  
  You know, it's not like everyone carries around every variation of armor and kits possible.
  
  Or would you prefer to wait until they get there, find out they don't have anything you need them to have, yell at them and then boot them from the team?

  That works well....in theory...til you meet the know-it-all types that insist they know what they are doing and instead of listening...do everything in their power to suck the fun out of what should be a pretty straight foward strategy.
