25 dollars for a c store ship? Really?

Guys come on, $25 for the galaxy X? A ship that will be nothig special by season 2? You are taking advantage of people chaps, plain and simple.
Also, no matter how short a time, you are giving people with fatter wallets an in game advantage - which is equally wrong.
Very dissapointed.
Think we need a worthy debate about the future of our game here, not a flame and troll session......
I for one don;t think you should be able to buy an 'advantage'. As for what Cryptic charge, well that's up to them we can always not buy

Nah, Cryptic can charge that too. I look at it the same way I looked at the "shoo" emote package.
That was way too many cryptic points for a package of emotes.
They can charge that. I choose not to buy it.
Yep, id rather be in a normal Galaxy with saucer seperation than the 25$ Galaxy X with phaser lance. I guess its a matter of taste, if you really lke the ship...buy it. But they will probably lower the price later anyways.
Not sure about this as a trend though. $25 would usually but you a full expansion pack wouldn't it?
Yes. At least in most MMO's I played through the years.
25 dollars is also a flying pony. but it is a rare item, and chances are there will not be something close to that price on the c-store for a long time. it's most likely that price due to the out cry over this.
as for it's advantage I think this sums it up.
Its cheaper than buying 5 copies of the game, but its also not peanuts.
Also, recruit 5 friends = Galaxy X FREE + 2000 FREE cryptic points.
So decide yourselves, waste your money or make an effort and get it free.

If you don't have twenty five bucks. You should be playing games less and working on getting a better job more.
It makes sense considdering that the RAF Program would be uninteresting otherwise.
But it is still a rip off on Cryptic's Part. That little bit of Code is surely not worth that kind of money.
Well i am just waiting for my 5th refferal to get billed and then this whole topic can finally go on /ignore for me.
I find it somewhat ironic that in terms of my character I can have thousands of different looks (particularly if I choose Alien), but with my ship wheere I spend most of my time I have barely any options in appearance. Now I know that all ship models need to be approved and all but considering Cryptic made its name on appearance custamization I expected much more for ship options.
One solution I had was this. Instead of discarding your old ship every time you go up a rank, you should instead just unlock new model options. So for the escort class (as an example) when I am a Lt Commander I have access to the models of the Saber, Rapier, and Ushaan. When I get promoted to Commander I also gain acces to the models of the Akira, Zephyr, and Oslo. In terms of BO slots I automatically gain them as I level reguardless of what ship I am in. When you can specialize at Tier 5 you can just get the option of 'Do you want an extra Engineer BO slot or an extra Science BO slot' for your current ship. You then select one and have access to all the models (Adv and Fleet) in T5 bracket also.
I realize it would take some work on Cryptic's part to make sure the various hulls, saucers, naseals,... all lined up properly but it would definately be an improvement for the player base over the current system and model limitations.
It's less about the price tag and more about the fact that people are now able to buy an advatage in game. Have you ever considered for a moment that people may have the $25 easily but do not want to spend it on pixels. Yet if this game is going down the route of 'paying for an advantage' those people will have to choose between paying money or having second rate equipment?
This is a horrible way to make a cheap buck, and an unpleasant way to treat loyal subscribers, can't believe you guys don't think it's plain wrong - come on!
Taking advantage or capitalizing on rabid consumerism? I would say this is a "chicken or the egg" thing but we all know the egg came first.
$25 is not a bad price point if people are going to pay it. It is an extension of prestige and not functionality. I'll tell a right now, no one in my fleet has one nor will they willingly group with someone who is using one. They are too much of a liability in a group.
Its a luxury good. by no way are you required to buy it.

Well.. what would you rather pay 25 bucks for... a WOW sparkle horse or a Galaxy X starship? In the end.... its just a ship. This issue will be forgoton in oh... a week or so.. maybe sooner.
Not just this game has IG items to buy for money. many mmo have this. some even have expansion for more creds

Shhh...or we might see it in game.
WoW has been around for years so they have more time to add "free" mounts and pets. If microtransactions were popular in 2004/2005, then Blizzard would do the same thing. If we wait a year or two, then STO should have enough ship costumes and ships for most people.
