Thats kind of interesting. Why would some "exclusive" items REALLY mean "exclusive", while others do not? Just for clarity, I support making these items available. It just seems strange to have such an obvious double standard.
My interpretation is that they're not giving away LT borg at the moment. Rekhan didn't say it won't be/wasn't availible at some other point (both before and after that statement).
My interpretation is that they're not giving away LT borg at the moment. Rekhan didn't say it won't be/wasn't availible at some other point (both before and after that statement).
Whats really strange is that they seem to view the LT items as MORE "exclusive" than the other "exclusive" items...yet the mirror universe uniform was a bonus item for the CO lifetime sub, and they have that on the list. Its just a strange contradiction of logic. Personally, I think they should make ALL of these "exclusive" items availible in the C-store.
As in days, weeks, months? I'll be getting the things I didn't get the first time around, but some folks seem to think it would be worse if it were done sooner rather than later; I think the sooner the better.
Exclusive or not we were told that the lifetime borg was a limited time offer had to be bought before feb 2nd to offer it to anyone lese is a slap in the face and i agree with the original poster i have faith in anything being a one time shot in this game just whine and cry abd they will give it to you
When they finally figure out how they are going to implement T6 ships ... the AGT Galaxy debate becomes moot. And then it won't matter if it's in the C-Store or a Vet Reward or whatever other way they can think of to market a little last gasp of life out of it promotionally.
Unless T6 ships are ships that your whole fleet has to combine resources on and they can only have one-per-fleet. Like, say, a fleet gets together, builds one T6 Jupiter-class Dreadnought like the Victory. That's their centerpiece and they have to choose one in the fleet to command their flagship.

...I can't see that ending well.
Besides, statements have already been made, albeit fuzzy and unclear, about what's coming at the next tier, and fortunately nothing like that.
If you bought a lifetime for the exclusives then I can see why someone would whine a bit but also if you bought the life time because of the exclusives then you probably have mental issues as well. I say that because why buy a life time just to get some bonus when the true point of buying a lifetime is so you don't have to pay every month. The exclusives were just a bonus.
Overall, Cryptic giving away exclusives or things that were "exclusive" doesn't really effect your game play. That is unless you wanted the exclusives because you wanted to lord if over someone.

"We have been kicking around ideas for what Tier 6 ships could be and how they would work in the STO universe already. Will they be retrofits of existing ships, Super Defiants? Will they need entire Fleets to pool their resources to create?"

Oh really?
Oh frack me... where's that gem of a quote from?
dstahl already said in very plain terms that T6 would at least include refits of the T4 ships (Galaxy/Intrepid/Defiant).

Those are going in as the Tier 5 "straight up" ships.
For instance, the Sovereign/Assault Cruiser has an extra Tactical slot. The Avenger/Star Cruiser has an extra Science slot. The T5 Galaxy will have an extra engineering slot. Likewise, the T5 Defiant is a more Tactical Heavy Escort. The T5 Intrepid is a more Science heavy T5 science vessel.
Beyond that T6 remains unplanned but it looks, reading between the lines on these comments, that T6 will be a tier where solo players upgrade any of their old ships to do the job and raiders will progress their fleet through content to get raid-exclusive ships.

I kinda agree with Squidhead. That wouldn't end well.
It's one thing in EVE where it's pretty cutthroat, and getting a ship like a titan is really insanely resource-intensive, and you can't even PARK the damn thing anywhere. And if you try to run away from a corp with a titan, you are fair game for pretty much anyone to run you down and pod you repeatedly until the heat death of the universe. The bounty on your head would be legendary. CONCORD would probably join in just on principle.
'Tis a bit different in STO, where you can abscond with something and disappear. Let me give an example from everyone's favorite 800-pound gorilla that they don't like to talk about. On the server I was on, one guild finally got all the pieces from Molten Core to make the server's first gold 'legendary item.' They presented it to the guild leader.... who promptly quit the guild, and joined a completely different one. And there wasn't a blessed thing anyone could do about it.
STO has a similar system to... 800#-Primate-Craft. Without some nontrivial coding on the backend, a guild could build one of these T6 ships, give it to someone, then they'll say 'So long and thanks for the ship!' and Abscond! and there's not a thing to be done. That wouldn't go over well. The fact is, before that jerk quit his guild almost as soon as he got the legendary sword, nobody would expect someone to do that. Now they will. Nobody will help to craft a ship if they aren't 100% sure the person piloting it isn't going to abscond with it.
Besides... that starts to tread out of the 'semi-casual' game niche that STO is in. Not saying it's not gonna happen, but there will be pitfalls.
ETA: Actually, I think the doofus became an independent non-guild person. No guild could hold his ego, I guess. But it's been a while, and all I remember about that was laughing my fool head off at that guild. WoW was all about the schadenfreude.
Later in the same article, they did say something about the refits, so I'd say that the particular answer up there is either misinformed or out of date
Yeah, I finally saw that. Out of date it is. The new change is in line with what I've argued in favor of, so, yay.

That'd be nice*, but where'd you get that from? It's not in the Ask Cryptic.
*Well, I was kinda hoping they'd stick with the possibility of special abilities like dstahl mentioned, because I can't think of a BO set I'd want three ensign skills in except maybe engineering.
Hey folks,
Just to clarify, we're not giving away the Lifetime Borg goodies to anyone. We discovered an error on our part and have since corrected the issue.
Additionally, we periodically give away things that were previously exclusives in order to 1) draw more people into the game, which helps us continue development, 2) generate more editorial/coverage, which lends itself to #1, and 3) provide players who missed their chance to get that exclusive at an earlier date. These giveaways are usually quite limited (sometimes more limited than they were when they were originally available) in both quantity and duration. We don't have a hard and set rule on what we make available at a later date or when, though we do our best to respect those customers who opted to take advantage of an exclusive offer when it was initially available.
We're also looking at opening up the C-Store to include some stuff that was originally bundled with different versions of the game at different retailers, since many of those retailers are out of their physical supply of the game. For more on that, check out this post by Destra.
I find this to be a very fair deal; Cryptic is not saying everybody will get said items , but they are saying that certain thing at certain times will be made available in limited quantities. Said items could still be considered exclusive do to the fact that not everybody will be able to purchase said items.
No matter what Cryptic actually decides to do, I've gotta thank them for all the fun their announcement today has given us on the forums. If only the game could be this entertaining

I can't say it's entertaining, but it's an interesting turn of events, and interesting to watch. I'll be very curious to see what the ultimate result is going to be. I have a few theories as to motivation but that's almost moot. And while there is some irony being kicked up, I'm managing not to schaden my freude. Or... however it's supposed to go.

So the LTS STO goodies are off limits, but the CO lLTS item is fair game? WTF?
Cstore items are the way to make money, not subs. The sheer amount of money WOW made just on that pet release alone was insane!
So everything you see in STO that is not game stat ehancing, you will see it in the Cstore eventually. Sad part for me is i paid for two copies of STO (DDE and amazon preorder). I love the sexy skirts, but dont use TNG uniforms and I dont use my amazon preorder Borg BO :-(
Thats very interesting! However, as I also posted in that thread my only question is why should I have to buy a TNG uniform(for example), when the uniform that came with my package(TOS, from the DDE) has been given away for free in various promotions?
Giving the TOS uniforms as firstly a collectors edition, and then as free, was actually a very clever marketing move, purely based on the fact of the 2009 movie.
Anyone that looked at this game from the viewpoint of being introduced to Star Trek from that movie would likely be drawn in by being able to play as they saw the cast dressed in that movie.
So... adding them to the CE likely increses sales of that edition, then later giving them free likely brings in more late comers.
Based on that though, your point stands. It does make sense to also add the other uniforms for free as well.
I've also seen the movie edition shirt on an NPC in one of the stations as well. Gief!
The best thing for Cryptic at this point it to put it all on the C-Store and let the complaining commence. Here is my reasoning. As long as these "bonuses" exist some are gonna want them on the C-Store and some aren't. So if they put them all on the C-Store and stop making "exclusives" now that the game has been released then it's over but people crying over spilled milk so to speak.
I hope Cryptic will give us Cyborg Avatar options in the future. I find much enjoyment in the character creator section.
On the main topic at hand, we should at the very least have the NPC uniform options. KDF mainly, since that faction has little options.
OPtiOn A: Choose to be a stripper wench with muscles and maybe green skin
oPtIoN B: Choose to be a pregnant stripper wench that 2 feet tall.
seriously guys. Do KDF womenz not able to afford shirts? Gold dinner plates on chest is so Xena:warrior princess
All items in this game that have trekie value should be available to all, if not for free then on the c store. Most fans of the IP would want to obtain all the era uniforms, ships and cool era stuff. If you are complaining that only you should have these items because you preordered, then your a selfish person. I preordered and got the tos era constitution class ship. I wanted all the preorder stuff, but i certainly wasn't going to buy from six different retailers to get them all. STO knows its fans, they will eventually offer all of the preorder items either give them away or put them in the c store. Don't get all hung up on the word exclusive. Be thankful that cryptic is offering you ways to get the stuff you want, dont be greedy.
Cryptic could make themselves a bit more money if they offered the Borg BO to LTS that were not around to get it at pre-order, i certainly would drop a few quid for it.
