Why cant we change skill tree's outside of social zones?

Apologies if its been posted/shot down before.

But is there any reason why we cant change our specialisation options during a TFO?

I have pretty much maxed out all the tree's and I like to pick specific ones to use during combat (e.g: Commando tree for ground combat which has no space skills).

It was a none issue prior to the 'join random TFO' option, as you could select your tree's once you knew which TFO had popped and choose them in the 30 seconds available prior to 'accept'.

However, as there is no option to choose ground/space in a 'Random TFO' - its pure luck which one you will get, and once you are in the TFO there is no option to change the tree's.

I'm not quite sure why it was implemented in this way - it seems a strange restriction to make tree selection available in 'social zones only'.

Can anyone shed any light on this, and does anyone know if there are plans to change it?

Cheers.

OP, please, change your thread title to something less vague and more specfic to your actual thread topic. Thank you.

Just pick two specs that cover all options, such as Intel with Temporal, if you are doing Random's, then you don't have to worry about it. I too, like most other players have maxed out all my specs, but I only run Intel/Temp because it covers ground AND space, suits every character, and I don't worry about my DPS.

There are no plans to change it AFAIK, but it has been talked about before, but the issue is because it would cause back-end issues as the Account Server (which stores your data) is seperate from the Game Server, which as we know all too well, does not like talking too much to the Account Server during high-load events, such as DoT events, where it's calculating damage for whatever spec you currently have. The inter-server chatter caused alot of lag a few years back, even just with level increases, so they have reduced the amount of time they talk to each other to be as least disruptive as possible.

I am right there with you OP. I don't do random TFOs for this very reason. Instead of logging in and running a few random TFOs, I log in do the daily and log out. As a space wizard I run Temp/Strat in space but switch to commando on the ground. When I run randoms I have no idea which I'm getting so I don't run them. I hate episodes that move between the two as well but since there is no replay value in episodes these days I just deal with a substandard secondary on the ground the first time through.

I don't know why it isn't allowed to switch or why they don't have a ground and space set like they do for traits. Either way it makes a cool feature, random TFOs, useless to me.

Well... I think the point was that you have to choose which one you want. Lore wise it kinda doesn't make sense to be able to change specializations at the drop of a hat. You don't see characters like Geordi saying he's a Miracle Worker one minute, then a Commando the next.

Honestly... I've leaned towards Spec Trees that have benefits in both space and ground. We only have a couple that are specific to one area only. Running Intel/Command gets you both space and ground. Running Intel/Pilot... you are admittedly semi nerfed on Ground, but not as much since Secondary only contributes half of its full potential if it is a FULL tree like Intel or Miracle Worker. Yea it may irritate the min-max crowd, but for most people I'm pretty sure its not that big a deal.

I think a lot of casual players need all the help they can get when playing ground. This is likely why changing to a ground spec is something that's requested so often.

The not quite so casual players are probably using Large Kit Overboosters plus a simple keybind to sequentially fire off abilities in a tray using a single key. Everything dies so fast that the specialization being used isn't really a concern.
