When the game first started the launcher said Play to start up the game, then per players request it was changed to Engage in homage to Jean-Luc Picard. Now you've gone and changed it back to Play. Bad form gang. I know it's a silly nitpicky detail but it's one that I will miss.
Really though, with the limited resources the game currently has time is spent changing the launcher. A change in my option wasn't needed.
they you tick off the much cooler Pike crowd with "punch it"
Actually the Pike character coined 'Engage' in the 1964 unsold Star Trek Pilot 23 years prior to the Picard character's use of it in 1987.

I can't help but think, "If we were going to get a new launcher, then why not something that looks more LCARS?" 🤔

Well, the game is itself only barely connected to Star Trek, too.
I do agree, though. It's not very nice to look at, and I think a solid LCARS design would have been appropriate. Perhaps even let the players choose a launcher, Federation LCARS, Klingon or Romulan...
And, let's get ENGAGE back.
Agreed on engage, but as far as launcher design goes the new layout is able to present more information more cleanly and still include a lot of fancy art for the game. It gets the job done well You can throw LCARS on top of that but if appropriately scaled the principle function is going to add clutter and subtract usable space (sacrificing a clean look for a Trek look). IMO the launcher's design looks good, per actual computer ergonomics, and I'm not going to begrudge a Trek property for pushing a different UI aesthetic in some small form. LCARs to me stands out as TNG-VOY era UI design, even by 2409 it'd be appropriate to revamp it considerably or move onto something else.

Just to get my opinion in here, it's a refreshing change to see a new design to the launcher.
It may not have needed it but I think it's a step in the right direction.
I do think it needs refined though - the 'News' section feels cramped and "Engage" definitely feels more 'Star Trek' than "Play".
Whilst I like what's been tried to do, I think the small size of the launcher works against it.
Maybe it's time to increase the amount of screen-space used by the launcher to something more like 800x600 ?

While a new design is welcome, in practice, it's not well-implemented, compared to the previous one.
Still the weird "news is both present in different text and thumbnails for some reasons" and now, you can't scroll to get more, the more appealing and fitting "Engage" button is replaced by a generic "Play", about one third of it is just used for the title and the portraits of the factions, and there is this ugly "X" replacing the bird.
thank you for bringing back engage now how about the button cycles through all the warp commands like Hit It, Warp Me, Let's Fly, I would like the ship to go....now, give me warp in the factor of three four five, thank you in advance

But I am in agreement with baucoin the change was not needed.

Interesting point. Would certainly feel more Trek than what we got.
