We need a miracle worker Galaxy Class

ian#9987 ian Member Posts: 79 Arc User
After S3 of Picard it is clear that we need a MW galaxy class. I mean, she was raised from the dead! What would be great would be a 5/3 MW/INT. But canon wise even a 4/4 MW/Pilot would do. We don't even need a new skin, just throw a title in.

More options are a good thing. But they could also include a variation of the Galaxy saucer with the bow discoloration/damage we saw in Picard.

It'd be nice to have a ship with a Specialisation seat (not Commander) that can accept any type of Spec. It may be a little over-powered though, but given how Spec's work, it offers more flexibility to a ship.

e.g. A Miracle Worker cruiser might have a Cmdr MW seat and a generic Spec Lt. Seat. You could then have a Bridge Officer with whichever other specialisation you want in there - Pilot, Intel, Command or Temp Ops.

    Nah, we don't.

Seriously, the last thing we need is yet another variant of an existing ship. Some of them - including the Galaxy - have like four already. The Ross, the World Destroyer or whatever it's called, the Andromeda and I believe there's another one.

And of course the Yamato (and its 47 variants) are also basically variations of that same Galaxy.

How silly do things need to get before we stop asking for more of the same ships?

Just add tokens that allow players to switch an existing ship characteristic like spec to another one. Or even better: add them for free as options to legendary versions of the ship. Legendaries were already supposed to be the best of their respective family of ships anyway - and unlock everything related to that family. What's even the point of having legendaries if they're just going to add other stuff afterwards that doesn't get unlocked, meaning players still have to get like 3 or 4 other variants, and again every time they decide to update one of these ships?

Enough with re-selling the same ships over and over again.

Usually I'm not opposed to ships being added, but they ought to be new ships, not marketing spins. It's almost like some people enjoy being exploited by Gearbox's marketing department. There are still ships out there that haven't been added or given the T6 treatment - meaning they're actually outdated. See, for instance, the Dyson thread. Those ships are more deserving of an update than ships that have already been renewed, redesigned and given all sorts of special treatmens four times over.

What we need is something that allows players to buy a ship once and change it so they can fly it the way they want.

Either that, or a return of bundles. Instead of being expected to get a super expensive bundle or promo box or whatever that contains the one ship you want and then buy another version of the same ship again as part of another bundle, they should sell these ships as they always did before. See the old Kumari and Odyssey bundles for how to sell your products in a way that is... more respectful to the customer.

Let's stop encouraging them to sell us the same product a dozen times, shall we? There are better ways to ensure that everyone can fly their favourite ships in different ways.

Agreed, I love the Nova, but hate that it's a Pilot spec.

Not if they instead focus on creating other ships. T6 Dysons and similar ships that don't have a T6 yet, and wholly new designs. They are very good at designing their own ships. This is subjective of course, but designs like the command battlecruisers, the Star Cruiser, the miracle worker cruisers and event ships like the Compiler are all Cryptic-original and good designs.

But if you can configure a ship the way you like it... there is no incentive to experiment with other ships at all because you have the end all ship. It can be anything you want it to be, and thus... who needs to buy another ship later on? Can it do what my Omni Ship can do? No? Not interested.

You know, based on what we saw in the Season 3 finale, a MW/Intel Galaxy-class would fit perfectly. Sure, Data's piloting heroics might make a secondary Pilot spec seem feasible, but the Enterprise-D essentially spent the first half of the episode gathering intelligence, with Dr. Crusher using surgical precision to eliminate the Borg Cube's defences. Besides, you have to leave something for the "Data's gut" Starship Trait. ;)

I do disagree about not needing a new model though. The Galaxy-class just doesn't have the level of detail present in the designs that have come from the TV shows since Discovery came out.

If a new model isn’t in the cards, then restoring the secondary deflector and removing the gap around the rim of the saucer section would be a welcome improvement to the existing Galaxy-class model. I’m really hoping to see a new model that matches the level of detail on the Constitution III-class though, with 3D hull details such as transporter emitters and lifeboat hatches, the Syracuse deflector dish, updated Bussard collectors and the more elaborate Aztec hull pattern from Star Trek Generations.

Interestingly, the Syracuse drive section also had missing hull panels and damage, with the port nacelle pylon having what appeared to be visible forcefields. To me at least, it made the stardrive feel like it too came from a ship with a storied history

What I hope will happen (there's no point pretending this version wouldn't end up in a lockbox/promo pack) is that an updated model of the ship in pristine condition would be made available to all the previous Galaxy-class variants. This would then allow the visibly damaged hull variant to be exclusive to the new model and potentially act as a draw to those of us interested in the Space Barbie aspect of the game.

    Nope. Unh unh. No way.

Too many variants of ships we already have are already ingame. How many Connie variants are currently ingame? I've lost track. Making a Legendary MW version of the Galaxy class will of course mean it will most likely be part of a Legendary Bundle. With lots of other stuff included in the Bundle. Which means said Bundle will cost a Legendary Amount of Zen. Next, people will start yet another tsunami of threads here about making only the ship purchasable in the C- Store.

I really like 1701-D. TNG was and remains near the top of things about Star Trek I enjoy the most. It was wonderful to see a facsimile of the old girl saddle up and ride off to face the Borg one more time. Only time I've ever enjoyed something which was so obviously fan service it almost hurt to look at it.

But I think we should let the old warhorse out to pasture and gracefully enjoy the retirement she's so rightfully earned.

Alright, but I doubt most people buy their ships just because it has a certain layout. I think design is more important to most. So if the design is right (and, preferably, unique), players will keep buying new ships.
  • rattler2rattler2 Member, Star Trek Online Moderator Posts: 58,672 Community Moderator
Perhaps, but you have to consider all the various groups in game. Yes there will be people who will buy a ship based on looks, but we also have people who will buy based on stats or if it fits the current meta. And if there is a ship that can be the end all I Win button... a lot of people are going to say "why should I buy that when this does everything I need?"

I actually have a friend who for the longest time considered the Temporal Multi-Mission Science Vessel to be the ultimate Megawell. NOTHING could match it, even newer ships. Why bother getting anything else when you have the Temporal Multi-Mission Science Vessel?

There are people like that, and if you give them pretty much the ultimate ship that can be whatever you want it to be... that is ALL they will pick up because there is no reason to get anything else.

I'm not so sure about that. I've been playing for around 7 years on Ps4. I can effectively run any build with any spec. What attracts us to invest money is not necessarily the specs, rather the ship itself. I personally was not very keen on the Constitution III stats wise but boy did I want that ship!

I love your 'Data's gut' idea for a trait! Are you hearing this, Cryptic!? :)

I never really thought of the Syracus, Scottie, that's really interesting that you spotted those details.

As was mentioned, at the end game all there really is is space barbie. I regard the Verne as the hands down best sci ship in the game, have for years. That doesn't mean I won't buy other sci ships. I regard the Inquiry as being hands down the best BO/FAW ship in the game, doesn't stop me wanting to aquire others. THE Discoprise has been my go-to for years now as an all rounder, doesn't mean I don't want to try new ships.

Well... the more iconic classes do tend to get more variants than any other.

I think it should come but not before a lot of designs, like Terran sovereign, terran vesta, terran patrol escort, mirror scimitar or vorcha? . A legendary Bortasqu' , legendary Negh'Var, legendary vanguard dreadnought carrier. More dominion designs in general would be nice especially from DS9, the bug shouldn't be the only ship from ds9 with the vanguard mechanic.

Probably because thanks to its turn rate the GCS isn't really fun to play, I suspect a lot people want to own a GCS but don't really want to play with it because of how slow to turn it is.

Pilot secondary spec and a couple Fleet Neutroniums with Turn can make the Galaxy work just fine. Basic beam/torp loadout of 6 beams and 2 torps also help. Most of the time you're gonna be broadsiding, but if they get in front or behind you, slap with torp spread. Also all but one Galaxy variant (World Razer) have access to Cruiser Commands, so you could use Strategic Maneuvering if you wanted more turn.

At least even the basic Galaxy has a better turn rate than most D'Deridex variants. It takes a Legendary D'Deridex to match even the stock Galaxy's turn rate without any buffs or consoles. And its noticable.

I fly them on my main, the new consoles make them very viable. But yah, as much as I want a MW galaxy this variant should cook a while till its ready.

I say yes to this. MOAR Galaxy class ships is never a bad thing since it's my favorite [Federation] ship.
