You have failed literally *every* Summer Event? You can't even complete the floater "race", which isn't really a race?

The problem might not be on their end...

Yeah, uh, I don't know about the hoverboards, I've never used them, but the floaters? I've been doing the summer event since... 2016, I think, and never had a problem. That's across two different computers, BTW. Hate to say it, but I suspect the problem is not on Cryptic's end.

I do tend to agree on the matter of Lighting 2.0, though. It broke day/night cycles on the planets that had them, and--unless it's been fixed in the last three years--made DS9 insanely dark if you're not using 2.0. Which I couldn't, when it launched; I initially thought the cutscenes on DS9 in Quark's Lucky Seven were supposed to be near-impossible to see. My newer computer can run it, but I've never noticed enough improvement to be worth what was sacrificed.

I think they had to stop the day/night cycle because the maps were not designed for ambient occlusion, which was one of the new features in Lighting 2.0, which made for really bizarre shadow problems unless they kludged them manually. Or something like that anyway, iirc they never went into much detail in the explanation before changing the subject, and AO did cause that kind of problem in other games so it is reasonably likely.

I've done the solo floater obstacle course (Flying High) hundreds of times on PC, Xbox, and PS5 and it's been many years since I've had any problems with it. Maybe in the first year or two (it's been so long I forget the issue) but nothing recent.

This summer I've been grinding lolwuts for the risa kit and modules on PS5 and have run it 4+ times daily, no problems including using the 1,000 EC rental floater.

They told us many years ago when they changed to the new lighting system that the Day/Night system would not be able to remain due to how the new lighting system worked. So it is not broken as such, it was removed/disabled and won't be coming back.

I live about as far from the servers as you can possibly get, yet I am able to win both the hoverboard race and the biathlon on a regular basis. Sure I have been hit with some pretty bad lag spikes on occasion, but those are rare and it depends on how many people take part in the race, if it is ten to twenty I seem to be fine, if all 50 players in the instance decide to run the race then lag does become an issue.

Usually each year I get hit with about 5 to 6 actual game crashes, that send me back to the home screen on Xbox or the login screen on PC, so far I've had that happen just once but it will likely happen again, this is just the nature of large scale MMO's with a lot of players and during Risa there are a lot of players all in one place, and I don't think there is much anyone can do to prevent this, it used to happen on World of Warcraft all the time in Org and in the barrens, gotta love that barrens chat.

I'll admit it can be really frustrating and lead to a desire to throw one's controller or smash one's keyboard, but lag issues are not always the game developers fault, it can happen anywhere along your connection path and often has nothing to do with the actual server you're connected too.

There are some graphical glitches, and I suppose the best way to deal with them is to try and get a screen shot and then report it describing as precisely as you can what you were doing when it happened. I'm currently using a graphics card I purchased in 2015 and it seems to be able to handle the game just fine, I have recently upgraded my CPU, M/board and Ram so that will obviously be helping, but I could not afford a new GPU which why I'm still using one that is nearly 10 years old, but it is handling things fine.

If you're still running the game from a mechanical hard drive then I would suggest getting an SSD (they're fairly cheap now) and installing the game on that as that will help solve quite a few issues with running the game, mechanical drives are just too slow these days for games like this.

I have been playing since F2P, and I have NEVER encountered any of these bugs you claim.

The Day/Night cycle is NOT broken. It was a deliberate decision to discontinue it due to how Lighting 2.0 works.

Sorry, but it looks to me that the issue is on your end. There is no bug report on this from anyone on the support forum either.

Lighting 2.0 is a massive leap for the game's visual quality and the day/night cycle WAS worth losing for it. Punctuating the point with "fix your tribble" is also unlikely to persuade anyone at the team to revisit the decision or implement more work arounds (ex. each year have multiple versions of Risa).

Risa event activities include those (ex Horgan hunt) that don't require you to disengage your floater or even use them in the first place (ex. Dance competition). I'm also going to say that this is NOT a general bug as I've never see it, seen discussion of it, or seen other players experience it. Ie. are *you* doing something that breaks the floater or are you simply exaggerating from personal edge cases (ie. player-side lag causing a delay in floater response which you then reacted badly to)? I'm in game right now, this bug cannot be reproduced.

The rest falls in that category of minor issue or issue that can't be consistently reproduced. The problem here may simply be that of fixation, having momentary experiences (ex. player-side lag, edge case geometry interactions) and blowing that up to the utmost possible degree to throw together a rant thread in general rather than itemizing the bugs in question and reporting those in due channels. Literally, these do not prevent players from participating in Risa. Otherwise there would be no event ships in use but those earned through buyouts.

Ranting is cathartic, but here it seems you've allowed that to overwhelm good common sense for how to deal with these issues (both in the moment and broadly). Claiming Cryptic doesn't care, betting money on bug fixes (I'll take that $1000 if you please as without consistent repro the game as it can be verified is already free of these bugs), and generally being very salty about the whole thing undermines whatever argument you're bringing to the table here. You've seen Trek. Is self-indulgent, explosive, venting that artificially generates a villain narrative (see. statements Cryptic is apathetic/lazy, lacking in sense, and overall a malignant figure in this exchange) generally seen as a *good* thing for characters to engage with? What about thoughtful problem solving that respects mutual interests that subordinates the feel good reaction in venting to actually getting tribble done to the best the universe allows?

Practice what the IP preaches and cool it. Do some problem solving, get facts, report those diligently to appropriate channels. Reported before? Doesn't matter, repeat bug reports help keep issues on radars. Then you'll have a fairly good shot of causing change in-game.

I have never had any issue doing flying high or horgon hunt. I'm not sure why anyone would waste their time doing any of the rest.
They removed the day night cycle... all well. I really didn't care if it was ever night time anyway.

If you can't play because STO has bugs. Well its probably time to move on then. It sounds like this game provides you more personal frustration then its worth. Donate your stuff to a new kid on the way out. o7

In previous years I've seen minor issues with rubber-banding in Horga'hn Hunt. Also in Flying High, sometimes flying at full speed you've already gone through the next gate before it appears, which means having to turn around and go back a little way. Neither are too problematic though, and certainly haven't prevented me from completing the event. Racing with Powerboards isn't really my thing so can't comment on that.

As I still have all my lohlunats from last year, I've only engaged with Flying High so far this time and haven't seen anything amiss.

The day/night-cycle won't be fixed, its disappearance is a consequence of the new lighting system. Which affects the entire game, whereas Risa is only visited for a few weeks each year by most players.

Activating a floater again and disabling them again usually solves their issues.

yeah we're not going to be doing this. If you have legitimate bugs you would like to report, please use the bug reporting section. otherwise rant threads are not permitted on this forum. /thread
