ah, ok, I see it now.
I thought this meant "2 points required to earn 1 daily progress"
If you can actually get 2 daily progress per day it works out of course. Thanks.
I expected a 21-day event but I'm always, always, always happy to be surprised.
This new event will pit you against the Terran Empire in scenarios new and familiar...
Looking at the list of participating actions, it would be pitting us against the Tholians more than the Terran Empire.
Additionally, I love the sound of this new set, and the bold decision to make it a 4-piece that really mixes up the equipment slots. I especially like that it's not another phaser or disruptor set - Tetryon seems to be massively overlooked!
I look forward to trying it out...

I probably won't be using it though, it seems too circumstantial to be of good use. Also, while I don't mind throwing a heal now and then to a teammate in trouble, I probably won't be forcing the rigidness of a set upon my own ship just so that others can have their shields reinforced.
That is, still, primarily their own responsibility.
I hope this upcoming story arc could include exploring the Spock mirror universe Confederation timeline and the Star Trek Final Frontier cartoon 26th century timeline.
Given that the Krenim Temporal Manipulation set, among others, offers a choice of omni-array or turret for its weapon, that fact of the choice not being offered in this case is puzzling. On a related note, many of the older reputation sets need this kind of rework - the Nukara Appropriate Munitions package, for example, can be expanded to offer a choice of DBB or D(H)C for its DEW (most newer rep sets do this), and a web torpedo as an alternative to the mines.
On a lighter note, a couple of ideas did come to mind:
the shield may have a visual component giving the ship a 'crystallized' aspect (perhaps yellow-orange 'growths' similar to the effect of the Assimilated Module;
the label on the 'box' the package comes in inspired an idea for a weapon rewarded by a future Crystalline Cataclysm event: a shard launcher. This weapon manufactures and launches fast-moving crystalline shards, using a 'magazine' mechanic similar to the Omega launcher; High Yield instead generates a scaled-down replica of the CE's large shards.
Hast thou not gone against sincerity
Hast thou not felt ashamed of thy words and deeds
Hast thou not lacked vigor
Hast thou exerted all possible efforts
Hast thou not become slothful
I hope the change to how many points a TFO awards is a typo. I am not going to waste a half hour a day to run two TFO's just to get the 2 points needed to do this grind. Especially for a Tetryon set, which is the worst weapon type in the game.
Is this event one of the five participating in the event campaign?
Nope.
The 5 participating events are 21-day events and are flagged as participating in the post.
This one isn't and wasn't, therefore I can say with certainty that it doesn't add to the Campaign.
Especially for a Tetryon set, which is the worst weapon type in the game.
I actually quite like Tetryon-based weaponry for my Science builds, but the overall availability for Tetryon in the game is quite lacking when compared to Phaser, Disruptor and Polaron.

I have an escort tetryon build and one of my loadouts uses the Preeminent/Incontrovertable Defenses set which gives a +30% tetryon bump. I wonder how this new set will compare.
For those asking, this is NOT part of the Event Campaign.

After playing the mission it was interesting to see where the Tholain captain name tied in.
But i do hope that the end of the mission did NOT reference the TOS movie with the entity who needed a ship.
Kind of hoping for an evil twin of the First Federation.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Never say never, but the odds of it happening are about as large as a playable Borg Cube.

I've now had the opportunity to play through the episode and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Na'kuhl star system looks even more beautiful than it did in "Stormbound" and the new interiors were so fantastic.
I always love seeing an over-engineered (and over-animated) door!
That bright light, though... I want to know now...
It was nice to see a tie-in to another part of the franchise...
STO has done this sort of thing before, and it's always great when it happens. Hopefully, our new friend will be making more appearances!

If my slightly suspect memory serves, when they ran the Poll about a decade ago as to which faction should be next, the one which led to the Legacy Of Romulus content, Tholians were one of the options, along with Borg and Cardassians. So at that rate every 8 years...
Was overall a nice episode with a good setup for following up on in the future. Hopefully there will be a few stories to fill in on things.
The new Patrols though, ow painful. May have got unlucky in the Jupiter Gauntlet with Tholians on easy but a 20+ minute space battle is not fun. Sure I may not have a über DPS build but it is not a tank build running turrets, which after 10 minutes of whaling into the Tarantula is what it felt like. Had flashbacks to the interminable Sona and Tzenkethi battle in Brushfire.
For once a TFO is more economical for balancing time and effort than patrols.

It's a reference to the ending of Star Trek: RO where a certain faction causes a huge flash of light with one of their devices and then dispatches ships to another faction's crippled ship:

From May 9th at 8am PT to June 8th at 12pm PT, you can participate in The Looming Threats event.
so that's 32 days.
The Grand Prize requires 40 daily progress, and Captains can earn daily progress once per account per day
how exactly is this supposed to work?
You can earn 2 points of daily progress per day, making it a minimum 20 day snore-fest grind to complete.

Welp, patrols it'll be if we have to do them twice per day anyway.

Wrong franchise.
