Trouble starting the game?

I thought I would ask the community before filing a bug report, because I'm not certain that it's not my PC causing the problem.

Lately, when starting the game, it will often go to the Cryptic screen, then turn to a black screen, where it will then hang forever. Worse, there's no way to get rid of it. I've tried using Task Manager to close the program, but the black screen is in front of it, and I can't interact with it. The only way to escape is to reboot my whole system.

It's not every time, but it's been several times lately. I wondered if anyone else was having the same problem. If so, I'll file a bug report. If not, I'll investigate my system.

    I'm not sure myself as to what's causing it. However I would suggest two things for now.
    1. Force Verify all game files
    2. Switch to Windowed mode from fullscreen in order to try and circumvent any potential overlap of the task manager until the issue is resolved.

    I'll let the other mods know in case they have any further advice.

    It sounds like the black screen o' death. I still experience it on occasion. My task manager is on my other monitor so I can force the game client to shut down.

    Don't know what it would do if it was on the same screen as my game client.
    Now a LTS and loving it.
    Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
    I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

    Are you using the Arc Launcher? If so, start the launcher (but not the game itself), go to options, and add -ArcOverlayEnable 0 to the Command Line section. This solved a similar problem I had. If you're not using the launcher... no idea...

    When this happens, start the game in safe mode from the launcher. It has fixed 'black screen' for me everytime. Don't bother with force verify.

    of course - after a successful 'safe mode' launch, you'll need to redo all your Graphics settings in game.
