Mission idea for the devs.

I had a interesting idea, which I give Cryptic full rights to use if they wish with not even a need for a minimal credit or any monetary compensation.

Now that the legal nonsense is out of the way.

I was thinking of a mission or series of missions where a war game is going to be played. Similar to the TNG episode Peak Performance, where a ship is pulled from mothballs and a captain and crew have a time limit to get it operational, and then go through a series of trials with that ship. Dealing with any technical failures or missing parts that it may have during those trials. Obviously a twist of some kind needs to be tossed in. And in the end the mission reward will be said ship. But it should be a random ship from a random era in Trek history for each player but all obviously a T6 or minimum upgraded T5-U-X. I would also recommend that the ship be of a type that is not suited for the captain career path, so Tac's don't' get a escort and the like. This would force some players out of their comfort zones and allow people to try new build types and combat methods.

Again just a idea I've had floating around in my head and please if you like it feel free to use any part or all of it.

They can't and won't use them.

A similar mission was removed from the game: "War Games" from the original Cardassian Struggle storyline. We also already have a few missions that "force players out of their comfort zones" with pre-built setups for ships. They're not very popular. And you want another free T6 ship? We already get at least 3 of those a year. That's not enough for you? 🤨

Unless an idea is specifically requested, which usually resolves with the forum in flames, they will not entertain stuff like this, and unfortunately, your idea is not original in the slightest with everything but a time-limit already featured in-game. That being said, even the premise is too basic.

    TFO's ARE wargames.

Technical failures/missing parts are part of the Fed tutorial, with the twist of the Borg appearing being part of the prior version of the tutorial when the KDF attack your ship.

There is absolutely zero chance they are going to give a random chance of ANY (T5/T6) ship being the reward. What's to stop someone spam creating characters/accounts just to get the 'ship' they want to play......and career rarely affects what ship you fly nowadays. No matter the career, I use either a Sci or Carrier, and most folk I play with are the same.

"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

To be fair, free event ships are rarely all that good. In fact, I rarely see them after the first few weeks, once the novelty newness wears off. Which isn't to say they're bad, but they're not topping any charts in any metric or measure. Fortunately, if the free event ships aren't 'wow' enough, Cryptic also gives away free T6 tokens as well -- during yearly campaigns, but also from time to time just 'because.'

The ships themselves are usually not necessarily very good (though the Breen raider for example was one of the few ships of its type when it was released).

Some stuff that comes with them is used even a long time after though. Some Risa ship consoles and the pets from the Fek'lri ships still seem rather popular. At least that's my observation.

IMHO, the only time a career path matters is if you are building a Mr Freeze ground build, because some of the better kit modules are science

honestly if you were going that route I would say a campaign where the ship pulls you back to the era it originally served for some missions. like 3-5 missions in TOS era or the Original series Movie era (post ST VI? lots of possible content on tensions and follow up from the first accords - on the other hand a campaign dealer specifically with the ferengi/ferenginar with a Very hostile acquisition theme - maybe tying in to trying to copy/sell tech from various new alliance members or the recently ended Klingon civil war...

plenty of interesting content they have yet to explore.
