Opinions on the Vizier?

orangenee#2931 orangenee Member Posts: 837 Arc User
So we have a 75% sale on Mudds and seeing as I have the Dil to cover a ship from there at that price, I was wondering if at 3500 zennys the Vizier is worth it. I've seen mixed opinions here and there, but it is a Sovvy.

Naturally I have my eye on the Risian Corvette too (experimental weapon is tempting).

If you enjoy command ships you will like the Vizier. I keep the Vizier and the Legend Sovereign both as active builds on my main tank toon. Ultimately it depends on what you personally like to fly and your goals in game. There is no such thing as a bad ship in this game, just ships that aren't good fits for how certain people like to play.

Just for a bit of extra clarification, I only have one toon that's dedicated to cruisers but I do like the Buran.

Commander Engineering seats turn me off usually, but the trait plays on the only thing I find I can put on the 4th slot. Which is eject warp plasma.

If I didn't have my Temporal Connie on my main, and the Walker before that, I'd probably still be flying the Vizier. (And that is her featured in my sig)

I personally feel she is quite well balanced BOff wise, and I don't even use the Command seating.

However that is mostly because the Vizier fits my particular balanced playstyle.

Also the Metreon Warhead console can be pretty fun, and IMO is more useful than the Archon's Incrimental Phase Cloak.

So, I don't actually fly my Vizier anymore. The Lego completely replaced it for me. However, if you don't have experience with the Archon or Regent, something to keep in mind about all of the Assault Cruisers (aside from the basic T5 one), there's no dedicated science seats. So, that universal LtCmdr seat is the only place you can slot sci abilities, and your Cmd abilities will mean giving up sci abilities. (If you have the Mirror Janeway hologram, you already have a Sci/Cmd BOff as an account unlock.)

It's a very good ship, but it does have limitations. Though, as a nice perk, you can slot CF3 on it. So you can go a torp route if you want.

I missed this when I was writing the post originally. Engineering suffers from not having many good Cmdr abilities. It's part of why full spec specialist cruisers are so much more attractive than full spec sci or tac ships. (Ex: Why the Mirror Galaxy X is lauded, while the Caelian is raked over the coals. The Caelian's Cmdr Int slot fights with GW3.)

The best Cmdr Engineering ability you can grab is Reverse Shield Polarity 3, Engineering Captains can train this. After that, Auxiliary to Structural Integrity 3 isn't the end of the world. If you're looking for a relevant Engineering trait on a ship, the Andromeda modifies RSP, and the Buran (which you have) modifies Aux 2 Struc. I would not chase the Vizier for Eject Warp Plasma. If you're fishing for a trait on a ship (and don't have it), then I would say grab the Arbiter or (if you already have it) the Gagarin.

Should I move into elite I'll likely change it up. I have a get in the middle of things mentality so eject warp works for now.

I usually play tank in any other MMOs.

Already got most of the c-store which includes Gagarin and Arby. The other T6 Sovvys are more than I'm willing to spend.

Uh... the Archon is cheaper than the Vizier. I mean, the only real difference is that the Archon is Intel, and the Vizier is Command, so pick your poison.

I guess the point I should have made is, buy the Sovereign you want to fly for the ship itself, not for the console or the trait. There are no Sovereign variants that come with useful traits or consoles. The ships themselves are very solid, but even the lego's trait is meh.

I'm up to my eyeballs in "useful" consoles. Time for some novelty.

My bad on the Archon, I was going from the mess that is ship customisation. Says it's just shy of 30k, much like trying to put the B'rel nose on the Kor, says that's 30k too. I had to buy the fleet B'rel to sort that out.

I have too many intel ships anyway, most of which can't do SS3.

I wouldn't worry too much on whether a ship can use surgical strikes 3 or not. Surgical strikes is a nice power and it's certainly far better than it ever was before. however it's not the only way to get numbers if that's the goal. It's simply part of the current new hotness if you will. If you like command, you will like the vizier imo. I'm also a tank so that's part of why I like it, but I also think command is criminally underrated for being able to get yourself through content.

I wouldn't say that...I'd say any ship that has cmdr and lt cmdr engineering slots is kinda bad since you don't really need all those slots :p

May not be optimal for how certain people build but I wouldn't say bad. just not going to be the DPS monster some people want it to be.

I had all three types of Sovereign, however I prefer Legendary version at this point for full spec MW, however I hate how this one loses out on a second LtCom slot, the MW Odyssey didn't lose one so why did the MW Sovereign lose one.

    My 2 EC:

Neither the Vizier or the Archon are Fleet Grade. You can get either fleet variant for 5 fleet modules if you don't have them - which means it's a potentially 'free' ship if using the modules you get from maxing out T6 Reputations. I really wouldn't say anything(traits/consoles) on either ship is a 'must have'.

I'd suggest saving your Zen for something more worthwhile.

(If you like the look, go for one of the fleet counterparts. If you want a mean bruiser-cruiser, go with the Lexington. If you really want a Command ship, the Presidio is still a beast.)

Edit: On the subject of cmdr eng seating and 'getting in the middle of things', Emit Unstable Warp Bubble(manuals are a mission reward) is another potential option. It's definitely not as nice as having Suppression Barrage 3, but it's relatively close to SB2 and has the added benefit of denying mobs from spamming anomalies and deployables near you for a short while. Just mind the long cooldown.

Already have the Lexy, Gagarin and Vengeance. Lexington being god tier, the Vengeance has had a resurgence mind you.

Anyway, I bought it. Not bad, not bad at all.

Never cared much Warp Bubble though.

I mainly fly escorts mind you, surgical strikes makes mixed weapons more practical.

Anyway, the topic served it's purpose. Thank you all.
