It's not so strange if you think about it - if stars and planets can form out of gas, why not ships? Especially when aided by machines that can move bits and pieces around.
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.
I am a shadow, darkness born from light.
The Force is united within me.
I use the Prior's World defense sat to pull ships close to me then hit the assimilator and evasive, come about and hit them with a torpedo spread. Instant temporary Borg fleet.

That exact thought crossed my mind when it happened. I just found it funny, and wondered if it was intentional or if it was just something that was overlooked when it was put into the game. Either way, it was great. As @sierra078, "Instant Borg fleet"
@sierra078 Thats exactly what happened! It was awesome, and hilarity ensued when they went to tractor/ram other pockets of metreon gas! Best mission ever!
Apparently it turns pockets of Metreon Gas into assimilated ships. Go figure.
This I have to try
I just dragged it out the bank yesterday and haven't actually successfully assimilated anything with it yet, despite a few close fly bys, vs the nanite torp which has always worked for me. Am I missing something?

TBH, I dont know how I made it happen. I was playing secret orders on a new character, popped the nanoprobes, and had a trio of Borg ships flying around behind me. Then they went off and tried to tractor/ram pockets of other metreon gas.
@garaffe I dont know..... Yet. Im about to go find out! lol

I must go try this immediately!

Can you assimilate things like enemy defense satellites/turrets? Or enemy pets/other targetable objects?
