The Inquiry

orangenee#2931 orangenee Member Posts: 837 Arc User
So I've seen this R&D promo ship knocking around on the [console] exchange for 400 million, which an eyebrow raiser by itself but also gets my EC pool jingling.

My question is is this ship any good? I do own the Avenger and Arbiter so it would be nice to complete the set.

I also own the Lexington which is alarmingly similar.

For Directed Energy Weapons builds, the Inquiry is arguably the best ship in STO along with the Vaadwaur Juggernaut. It's a top tier ship, and it's fantastic.

I use Ba'ul antiproton beams on the toon I'd be getting it for, how survivable is it?

It's a natural for cannon builds if it's like it's sisters though, so I may switch to those anyway.

Well it left a let down impression for me. Being so highly touted by Riker in the Picard Season 1 Finale, I was expecting this ship to dominate with little effort. I gave it to my character that was built with the line of ships of that design in mind and the phaser blast or cone has been very ineffective compared to my other weapons that do damage in that manner. It just left me with a oh well, most certainly not better than some of the other ships (lobi, dil->zen, event, free) I own.

As with all ships, it's as survivable as you wish it to be depending on your build. It has very versatile bridge officer seating, and depending on the consoles you use, the ship can be built as a pure damage, tank, or hybrid. I certainly wouldn't say that 'tanking' is it's focus by any means.. but it's a tough ship for sure. Besides, things can't hurt you when they're dead.

Any ship with an unoptimized build will leave this impression. Sounds like the build just needed some tweaks. The ship is one of the top ships in the game, but like every other ship, it needs a build that takes advantage of it's strengths. No one ship in the game is perfect for everyone.

That one was the ''USS Copy'n Paste'', right?

    Isn't The Inquiry simply a T6 C-Store ship?!

I think it was an RD box thing.

Yeah, the Lexington. :D. However, the Inquiry is the super Arbiter but it's the very cheapest R&D promo ship on the exchange here on Xbox at least, barely pushing lockbox prices at 400/450 million and there's 5 of them sat in there currently.

Which is why I'm asking about it, seems alarmingly cheap considering the soiled pantaloons it caused on yootoob.

Trouble with the Arbiter is it's one of the old school T6 ships, not a lot going on in it's chair arrangement (too much engineering is naughty). I have Intel seating covered by about 4 million ships already too.

I think the console too may have recently had the Inquiry in the lobi store to promote the ship’s return in Picard. As others have said if you can afford it, it’s cheap, and you build it right—you probably won’t be disappointed.

It’s the biggest, meanist, copy-and-paste out there, afterall!

They've been lurking there for weeks now (I keep my eye out for JH dreadnought carriers which are very rare), so people must be reposting them at that price after getting them from the lobi deal, which I had forgotten about.

I have a love for miracle worker ships and there's precious few good ones out there. The legendary Derpidex was disappointing though, still a flying shed.

Yeah, it's currently cheap because it was recently made available for Lobi (for a limited time) so the supply greatly increased. Same thing happened with the Tzenkethi Tzen-Tar which is also a top tier ship.

Every once in a while, Cryptic makes one of these ships a Lobi ship and that makes them highly accessible for a short period of time. If you're unsure, I would do this..

Buy the ship, leave it in the box and copy your character to Tribble Test server. Log into your character on Tribble, test the ship and see if you like it.

If you enjoy it.. great.. keep it, fly it.. enjoy it. You got a great deal on a great ship.

If you don't like it, you can either re-list it immediately if you just want your EC back, or you can sit on it until the prices go back up and then re-list it for a profit. I am still sitting on one myself deciding what to do with it, I really like the ship, but I don't have any characters that need it. I am likely going to re-sell it.. but I am still not entirely sure.

If you can get it for 400M, I don't see any possible way you can lose on that prospect. Buy it and try it out.. it's good.

I'm on console, no try before you buy here. Be a couple of weeks before I, get back to 400 mil again, yoinked a couple of Boimlers, no room for aux to bat on the build I'm planning.

It's a modernised Arbiter, can't go wrong there though. Not sure about that deflector though, I don't like ships smiling like that.

I run an Inquiry with the Ba'ul AP set and mainly Ba'ul AP beams with an A2B Beam Overload build (with a backup FAW for target rich environments). It kicks bottom well enough.

I have loved the Avenger class and its successors since they were released. My only reservation is that the Inquiry should totally have been a C-Store release, not a hen's teeth promo prize.

It was R&D promo for the same reason the Donnie is, Cryptic want ALL the money.

Though I dare say that pesky Dilex is the reason they skipped the C-store too.

It's a fun and versatile ship.

That being said though, unless you're really interested in the console or the Miracle Worker spec, you might as well use the Arbiter - which is a very good ship too.

Personally I found the Arbiter's trait more useful than the Inquiry's. The main reason why I got the ship, was that I like to have one unique (i.e., non-C-Store) ship for every toon.

Speaking of the trait, does it have any conflict with EWC? I suspect it's a one or the other setup.

I'm on console so we get no information back regarding what's proccing or not. We just have to work from educated guess work.

The Arbiter is competent but dated seat wise, plus the full set will help down the road as this toon is intended to fly space skyscrapers, like most of the Fed cruisers.

I love the Inquiry and I dislike the Vaadwaur Juggernaut. I fly it with a mixed Cannon, Beam, Torp Build and it just rips things apart. I highly recommend the ship.

C-Store Inc. is still looking for active members on the fed side. If you don't have a fleet feel free to contact me in game @stegi.

Eventually I'll likely convert to phasers, anti-proton is a little limited I'm finding.

Haven't done any mixed builds yet.

My promo ship choice for the year event will be the Donnie anyway, so that'll pan out.

Both traits can be used at the same time. The only limitation is that, once you use Emergency power to shields, you have to wait 15 seconds before you can use Ept weapons and vice versa.
