Really? Because he was always saying, "We HAVE to do this" and you'd just parrot what he said. On Virinat he wasn't bad, but once aboard your ship, or at the conference, and throughout the Romulus and Nimbus stories, it was all about him, his sister, and his Tal Shiar girlfriend. The whole thing is his story, and you are just along for the ride. It was that in particular (and his VO, and the fact that I can't get him off my bridge no matter what) that made me most want to airlock him.
But back on topic: Where the vanity transporter (or even an entire subfaction change) would be most likely to be doable and desired, would be for pre-AoY Fed characters who would prefer the 23c. effects. Characters who came out before the effects were even an option, I mean. I know if I have such legacy characters where if I could change them to use the TOS transporter and tricorder effects, I would.
There is a lot of customization I'd pay reasonable amounts of dil for, even character unlocks (meaning something in the 10s of thousands range, not millions). Alert siren sounds, transporter effect, warp effect, communicator styles, weapon skins (space/ground). But I think none of those are technically possible or at least achievable in a economic matter for Cryptic.
In one of the more recent podcasts I think Kael said yes, the dilex issue is known but having sales to push Zen purchases has top priority, since this is what keeps the lights on. So even if those customizations would work, I guess they'd be parts of 300$ bundles at this time 😂

Maybe they could do something a bit like what they do in Elder Scrolls online. A weekly vendor that sells a couple of unique character bound items such as previous event items, weapons, ships, Boffs etc... for large Dilithium payments. They are available for a week then they are gone until they are rotated back for sale at a later date.
If they want to keep it lore friendly then make it a 32C time travelling trader who is coming back to take dilithium back to the 32nd Century.
I noticed that with the new temporal recruit that they have unified the transporter effects for beaming. This made me wonder about having a slot on the ship to go with deflector , shields etc.. that would allow you to choose your away team beam effect. I have never liked that depending on you away team selection, you beam up with different transporter effects.
Perhaps, but a little consistency is a good thing. I love how my new TOS-ling transports herself in a TOS fashion; and how her communicator makes that delightful TOS retro-sound too. Conversely, it would feel awkward seeing other TOS-lings beam up with, say, a Romulan beam.
I personally find the 'wrong' ship warp trail more disturbing, as you're ship can be purely Fed, yet still leave you with a green warp trail, just because you're Captain is Romulan (whereas a Captain, inescapably, always looks their species, so always has the 'correct' beam out type).

I agree with the idea of consistency on beaming. The TOS beaming effect on my new character applies to all away tram members as they beam out. On my main character I can beam down with human discovery, Klingon, romulan or Jem hadar characters. When i beam out the away team they all use their own style of effects which is visually jarring. I would at this point settle for the same setup as TOS characters normalizing beam out on all characters to the faction, not a mess of different effects
