im currently sitting about 250,000 dilithuinm refined, when will i be able to convert this to Zen?
You can convert it now, put it up at 500:1 and within a few hours it should sell. If you want a better rate than that you would need to wait and hope that Cryptic adds more DESIRABLE dil sinks.
Cryptic has talked about Dilithium Sinks to fix the issue but outside of a short but successful Vanity Shield promo has done f'k all to actually fix the problem.. in fact, they continue to make it worse.
I see no reason at all to think that the Dilithium Exchange will ever return.
It also doesn't help that dil is made more worthless by them running constant events along with make zen so valuable with constant sales and releases of legendary ships that costs so much.
Indeed. I saw at least two years ago what was inevitably going to happen if they kept up the constant sales. Every time they ran one, the exchange spiked, and never quite went back down again. It didn't surprise me at all when it hit 500:1 and stayed there, and it shouldn't have surprised anyone else--Cryptic included--either.
It's actually been moving a lot faster than it has been the past couple of days, last night I even saw a surplus of Zen at 500 for a few seconds.
My guess is that some zen sellers found a "new" sink, in needing to upgrade/re-engineer gear on new TOS Recruits. And/or a temporary drop in demand for the same reason.
That makes sense. All that 23rd century mark 1 white gear needs a bunch of Phoenix upgrades as you level up, plus anything you craft like ship consoles, shields and armor.

I saw a spreadsheet where someone had tracked the dilithium/zen exchange rate daily, back as far as 2016... if you ignore spikes, sales, etc... it had a discernable and consistent upward drift even then (roughly 2 dilithium per month), which accelerated in late 2018 (to about 7 dilithium per month) and never slowed back down. (At that time, the exchange rate was roughly 300, which explains hitting the cap roughly 30 months later: 30x7 being just over 200).
I find it interesting that the date roughly coincides with the fastest possible completion date for the Fleet Colony.
I'm not sure that "constant sales" were the determining factor - while of course that helps drive demand for zen, I think the bigger influence was that they stopped introducing new dilithium sinks, and the zen sellers who reached the logical limits of the existing dilithium sinks, stopped selling their zen, causing a shortage.
The monthly sales definitely accelerated it, it also didn't help that they stopped introducing new items to the phoenix box so they could make more money by gouging the players with Mudd's market.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

Have you tried actually winning an epic token? It's significantly cheaper to buy them off of Mudd's (during a sale at least, not sure about the regular price) AND it's an account unlock that way. Most people will never take the Phoenix Store seriously unless they increase the drop rate.
When there are many dil sinks that get people to spend lots and lots of dil in-game as dil, instead of wanting to sell it for zen.
The zen you get comes from other players spending real world cash monies to buy it. They have to have a good reason to trade it for dil.
which is the complete opposite for a new player. i find myself never having enough dilithium.
ironically i especially need a lot of it to buy zen to get basic commodities.
an account bank and the energy credits cap increase really shouldnt have to be bought with mtx currency. im fine with the extra slots costing zen, but some of that stuff is just basic functions that a game like this should have period.

Right, but they don't want you buying Zen for Dil. They want you to give them your RL money for the Zen. This is a cash cow now, and they're milking us all furiously.

Trading dil for zen is not a dil sink, it is adding to the problem. F2P players all wanting to trade dil for zen is why there is no zen left.
What is needed to fix that is dil sinks, which are things that get people to spend dil in the game. For example phoenix tokens and re-engineering gear.

They don't care if you buy your zen with dil because that zen is still paid for by other players.

like i said. new players absolutely need to trade dil for zen, because you need an account bank and you need to get rid of the 15 million ec cap.
these are basic functions that shouldnt even cost zen.
the slot expansions are ok for zen, but they should just give every player a basic account bank and get rid of the beginner ec cap.
there is also inflation to be considered. a 15 million cap might have not been a big deal a few years ago, but as prices increase its more and more of a roadblock for new players to advance.

Yep, once the large fleets finished the Colony World it was an upward climb since the last big dil sink was done.
It almost sounds like one thing that may be needed is more new non-F2P players to maintain the balance of things, given that existing zen sellers may have reached their logical limits.

Though gloom, this is the most realistic outcome.
