Well, I only Respeced one Character the last time so it seems I didn't waste my time then.

I really don't care about having to redo the traits once in a while, in fact I welcome it because I get to make changes to bring them in line with the current meta.. but to have to do it twice within a month is an epic fail of the development lead, the scrum master and the QA coordinator. all three of them should have said, "wait, this is going to blank the skills and traits. we should do a single larger update instead of 2 smaller ones, ESPECIALLY since neither change was correcting a game-breaking issue.
IN ENGLISH he means he doesn't care.
it this the part where I am suppose to get pissy and tell you to go away?
My loadouts don't work properly.
I have missing active reps on several alts every day and one alt that EVRY time I load him has missing all traits and I can't load saved loadout on him.
So... I suspect that this will be corected some time like four years from now or there will be another "respec event" soon.
well, I didn't respec last time. So I think wisdom dictates to follow the same course now.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Earlier in the year I had a couple of Characters that had Skills Invalid repeatedly. I Respeced and it would reoccur. Then I just relogged and it went away. I thought the first pass a few weeks ago the Respec was needed because they were making some efficiency changes beneath the covers as well as adding the T6X. So now what? Skills are Skills, and Traits are Traits. Stop unloading the Traits when you do this sh*t.

First time was an error. Second time was supposedly intentional. On both occasions the communication about it was lacking.
The first time wasn't an error.
Borticus explicitly stated it was intentional due to changes made to the underlying code of the skill system. Second time was also intentional because of them editing how the trait system worked.
And it will happen every time they make some sort of change to the skill system, just like its always happened when they did that.
Eitherway, I maintain my opinion that their communication about it was sorely lacking.
Agreed. And that's putting it mildly. What buffles me is how, exactly, could they forget to make it known that every single player was going to need to respec every single one of their characters.
Like, we're not talking about changing the color of a font, or giving Worf an haircut.

Seems I've been playing for over a week with invalid skills as I only noticed last night all my traits were unslotted. Once I reslotted the traits my toon seemed weirdly OP so I glanced at the skills and saw they were invalid again. I think I'll just leave them as-is for now.
So....all my other toons I didn't respect after the first occurrence of this issue get a second free respec token ?

It happened to me as well. I'm not talking about the second invalid notice but a new one after they redid the new Loadout.
Sorry to say that this inept from Cryptic's side. These keep resetting themselves. No mention of a fix in the patch either.

Forget it...according to Som, not bothering to tell your players in the patch note that they need to do something because you broke it is perfectly normal industry standard. Not once...but TWICE mind you. Perfectly normal...I don't know what industry he is talking about because it isn't software development...but perfectly normal industry standard. And it's okay...because he does the same TRIBBLE thing at his job. So it's all normal.
I never said anything about not including it in the patch notes. I actually agree they should have both times.
Why do you feel the need to blatantly lie about such things instead of sticking to the truth?
I guess he does it for the same reason that you feel the need to defend CRYPTIC'S POOR DESIGN DECISIONS AND QA PROCEDURES at every opportunity yourself.

Sorry to say this, but this is outrageously and incomprehensible. Stop, full stop, finish!
I am on the edge of maximum toons (54) - this is of course my fault and I'm solely to blame - but this unnecessary and untiringly invalidating of the skilltree is a absolute no go.
Neither it is comprehensible from my point of view (as an actual Developer) why you cannnot simply transfer the old skill tree to a new system (and offer a free reset if you want to give the user an oppertunity) nor is it a very smart move to annoy all your customers with every single update.
Neither it is comprehensible from my point of view (as someone who spent half her life as a system admin). You start each user upgrade with collecting all current skill settings; then you change/update the system, and restore the Traits/skills to their original slots, at the end. Imagine a router firmware upgrade, without the ability to retain its current settings (or at least a way to back them up and restore). And yes, even when new slots were created in the meantime. Last time that failed, was with the first BIOS-es of early eighties XT computers: every other programmer since has grasped the notion that you could label these settings (in whatever kind of associative array of your choice), and restore their settings afterwards, even if new settings had been introduced. Even shipyards, for the longest time, were programmed like a regular array: aka, discharge a ship, and every ship underneath would have been shifted (so as to break them all).
And why? Laziness. And contempt towards the userbase. There's not a programmer in the world who doesn't know that what I said above is true. But they look at this in terms of 'What can we get away with?' And they're always counting on Cryptic defenders coming out of the woodworks, saying stuff like "Oh, but your skills couldn't be retained, because they changed the system."
Same happened with the loadouts: all existing Traits get wiped when you pick an old loadout. All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.
All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.
So say we all!
Wrong franchise, Sea! :P
Seriously now: yep. It will continue to happen and they will continue to "forget" to warn us in advance.

The first time was an embarrassing oversight. Can happen (although far too often with STO IMO). Doubling down of this... @meimeitoo said it best: Contempt.
Today, I switched out of my Legendary Intrepid T6X to a Fleet Titan T6X. Even though that Character had Skills Invalid listed (was the only Character I Respecd after the initial Skills change a few weeks ago) NO Skills unslotted. I only had to slot the T6X Starship Mastery. I assume it is because that is Ship dependant.

I found the possible solution for it in reddit:

I guess you have to hit "save" now in every instance you have a ship.
