Herald Baltim or Maquis Raider

I want to buy a new escort or raider. Currently I was debating on Maquis or Baltim or even Miradorn. What do you guys think? I mostly do PVE and focus on DPS

I personally have never used any of these, but i've seen quite a few people say that the Baltim is pretty good.

All are good ships, from a pure power perspective the Maquis Raider is top dog due to it's extra console slot and it's ability to slot Miracle Worker powers like Narrow Sensor Bands and Mixed Armaments Synergy which are two of the most powerful abilities in the game.

Overall, as always you seem to have done your research and narrowed the choices to the best possible picks. These are all good ships for captains that enjoy heavy raiders and I would think any of them would make you happy. While the Maquis variant has the power edge, any of them should bring very high DPS potential. I can't advise from personal experience because I suck too bad to use Raiders, I would just blow up right and left so I tend to avoid them.

Im with Sea. All of them are strong ships.

If you want to max it out entirely for DPS the Maquis Raider has the natural advantage.

I have it on one chars ever since it has been released. It’s far out how different space combat is compared to a dread.

    It’s just fast man!!! :p

I've had all three, I wholeheartedly recommend the Maquis over the Baltim and the Miradorn.

Good call! If they ever torture us through the breach event you will know what ship to pick.

I assume you will learn to love it in gravity kills and Tzenkethi front as well. 👍🏻

Breach is definitely a lot harder on big ships(I often done it on Sarcophagus) but it is a nice map and the only that gives you a feel similar to attacking a death star in star wars, so it is among my favorites due to the presentation, I do however understand why many dislike it

Nice part is one can super cool speed it up with things like the competitive engines and the epte doff that resets evasive maneuvers.

With the new ship of the OP, yea you can get that Star Wars trench run feeling right. 😎

The Maquis is totally superior. Baltim is very outdated, although both the Baltim and Miradorn come with much better consoles IMO.

Maquis raider is unbeatable on the fed side. Still unsurpassed.

You sir have certainly some balls to spread such blasphemy in these of all forums.

Not that you are wrong or anything but I still remember how @seaofsorrows once got crucified here for recommending a new ship release that had more than 4 tac consoles slots. Better be careful man! :D

Haha ok >:) Not sure I quite understand what you mean, but raider is my favorite ship class and I've tested almost all of them, something I really enjoy is comparing their capabilities. The Baltim and Miradorn and amazing ships, but they come up short for me. But it depends on what you are looking for in a build, whether you like intel or MW or temporal powers etc.

For me, I would choose the temporal raider over those other two - that is another ship that has held up over time. Also the bug ship is still amazing. And the new Picard heavy raider with those two cmdr seats and awesome console is another top choice.

Good choice; you definitely get more from the Maquis - extra console slot, MW Innovations, and a unique experimental weapon.

While the Baltim does get an Intel(and pilot) seat, the trait isn't particularly amazing. The console is basically an upgraded, but delayed, Subspace Jumper - which can be nice, but also quite niche. It does project the purple light aura like the other Herald ships though.

For what it's worth, the Baltim does unlock the Frigates on other Herald ships(which is the main reason I picked up mine).

There was a time when intel didnt share cooldowns with common tactical ones - back then maybe an intel ship with pilot was far more better

The only Intel ability worth using nowadays is Overide Subsystem Safeties. The others were nerfed too hard to actually be of any use which really sucks. Realistically, the only Specialization boff powers worth using are Mixed Armament Synergy and Narrow sensor bands which are so amazingly powerful, its funny they're easily more powerful than any of the other Spec powers that got nerfed but they never get touched. Cryptic really needs to do a buff pass for all the powers that are completely unusable nowadays. (Just take Tyken's rift off shared cooldown there's no reason for it to be when not a single other anomaly has a shared cooldown)

there is ONE other useful intel power, but it's situational - ionic turbulence

it's classed as an anomaly, which means it triggers spore-infused anomalies - of course, you not only need to actually HAVE that trait, but you also need to have a ship that not only has intel seating, but has intel seating that doesn't disrupt your ability to have other anomaly powers (i.e. having intel on a science seat means it has to fight with subspace vortex for a spot)

Worth is subjective. While I wouldn't go quite that far, I certainly wouldn't mind some spec abilities getting a review/buff to make them more worthwhile.

OSS is obvious, but I still find Ionic Turbulence to be quite good on well/anomaly builds. It synergizes very well on the JHVC with Superior Area Denial, GW, and Scramble Sensors to make a ball of ineptitude that melts in the blink of an eye. Conversely, Electromagnetic Pulse Probe(pulsing AoE disables) and Transport Warhead(noteably as an opener with Subspatial Warheads and THY proc-spam builds) can have some niche uses.

It also triggers electrified anomalies, which more people probably have access to right now. I'd also rate very cold in space over subspace vortex (but use them all if you want/can!)

Intel powers aren't in a bad spot overall. Most of them have some value, unlike say Command which has a lot of duds. Intel team lets you fire while cloaked, basically. Electromagnetic pulse probe is utterly crippling at rank 3 with a control heavy build, of course that precludes GW3 (But not GW1.) Kinetic magnet isn't great for most builds, but it is a resistance debuff. Subnucleonic carrier wave is what puts your actual weapons on long cooldowns when fighting Iconian Vonphs, how useful that is against NPCs is questionable, but it does what it does well.
  • legendarylycan#5411 legendarylycan Member Posts: 37,284 Arc User
even command has at least ONE useful power, provided you are using a torp boat (concentrate firepower, STRONGLY preferably at rank 3)

the only specialization that doesn't really have any truly useful powers that you can base a build around is pilot
