Best way to farm Diplomat XP?

ericcoldfire#9804 ericcoldfire Member Posts: 41 Arc User
I've been wanting to get that commendation maxed as quickly as possible but it seems like Diplomacy DOFF assignments just trickle in compared to the rest.

Is there a way to speed up the process now that apparently all the diplomat missions are gone from the game?

Doesn't the Amassador Surah (the Deferai guy) daily give 100xp as a reward?

IMO the best areas to look for Diplomacy DOff assignments is between Earth and New Romulus, and the 4 sectors around DS9.
On a good day you could get 20 Diplomacy DOff assignments.

While it has been a while since I did the Diplomacy grind, those particular areas have always been good to me in the past.

Klingons have Several Marauding assignments throughout Beta, as more cunning & warrior attitudes, than true diplomacy.

Though for Federations I know the Sector Block below New Romulus, Khitomer can sometimes have 2-3 sometimes, as Khitomer represents Alliance interests, and right between New Romulus & Quonos. :)

Far more often as Federation, I believe you'll find more in Alpha Quadrant, from DS9, to Bajor (Ground or Space), Cardassia, near Defera, or flying even around to Betazed, then Trill, and Ferenginar, or even more Northern area's closer to Lukari Planet.

But it really depends when you look in both Quadrants, as most maps regions often offer variances by Sector Blocks, so fly around, and check each Block, and if you find non check again in 10m. They change DOFF missions every 10-15m or so. Usually I could find anywhere from 4-6, maybe even 7-9 if I am real Lucky! Though it's possible to find perhaps more.

Good Luck, Diplomacy can take awhile, so just stay focused!

Did not know that, I think I completely glanced over the diplomacy commendation reward and thought it was just XP and ore.

Some of the doff assignments in the Dyson Space battlezone also have a good payout.
Maybe not farmable, but it provides a source for high paying doff assignments.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Turning in prisoners at the security guy at Earth Spacedock will also give you some diplomacy points. Though admittedly not a great deal. When on ESD, do look for the doff mission "Entertain Foreign Dignitaries", as that gives nice diplomacy points.

Thank you all for the advice, since starting STO in mid-July of this year, I finally was able to grind and got to Diplomacy tier 4, just now.

DS9 is one of the best indeed, imo.

Good for other types but usually VERY lacking in diplomacy and a couple of other specific categories.

They appear more irregularly, but they are there sometimes. The Undine battlezone also has them near the shields and the ship of the Bolian admiral.

You won't always find them indeed, but still. It's perhaps the easiest one to check.

The Badlands battlezone was also supposed to have unique assignments if I'm not mistaken.

But those don't seem to be working. If you hit the button that appears when entering the zone, you'll just get to see the black background of the assignment screen.

I've always thought that Colonial, Trade and Recruitment were the ones that seemed to drag out the longest, with Development being the speediest to achieve?

Colonial and trade take quite a bit of time indeed. Recruitment too, for me, but apparently there are ways to speed that one up. It seems a bit costly though.

For me, Tactical and medical are usually completed the fastest because I like to make sure that I have the Facility 4028 chain completed so that I can run the extra repeatable assignment almost daily. Medical because I have a fair number of Sci toons who are (part-)medics on the ground.

Not as costly as it might sound; you can buy purple doffs with fleet credits (20K each), and recover about half of said fleet credits (they get broken down to 27 whites each). Or buy them off the exchange (any purple will do, and I can usually find plenty for around 400K EC or less), in which case you gain those fleet credits (roughly 10K each).

Doing it during a Junior Officer Event will reduce the need to 2/3rds of normal.

    True.

I forgot about that option of buying them at a Starbase. Usually because when I do that, I need a doff of a specific specialisation so that's probably why I automatically linked it to high costs...

I might actually go and try this out. I've got more than a million FC on one character anyway so...

Im a big fan of the doff system so I thought I would add some comments, even though the thread is a couple weeks old.
I've been wanting to get that commendation maxed as quickly as possible but it seems like Diplomacy DOFF assignments just trickle in compared to the rest.

Sadly this is true. Most fields have some assignments that range from 400-1100 CXP but the Diplomacy field really doesn't. I find the best ones are in the area around DS9. There are a number of "Escort ____ Representative to DS9" and similar names. These net about 250 CXP each. Since there are a variety for different races you can often find 4 or 5 of them by flying around. But you also need lots of security officers.

I don't go to the Dyson Sphere often enough to say if there is a good one there, I can't recall off the top of my head. But if so you could probably only run one at a time.

For KDF the marauding field is much easier because you can sell your prisoners to the Orion Slavers for 1100 CXP.
I've always thought that Colonial, Trade and Recruitment were the ones that seemed to drag out the longest, with Development being the speediest to achieve?

    That depends.

    * Colonial can actually go pretty fast if you are regularly visiting the star clusters. You want to go after the Colonization assignment chains, and when you have completed all 14 not only do you have 14 blue doffs but you also should have around 50k CXP. And completing them unlocks some repeatables, one of them being "Support" which gives you a purple doff on a crit. But there is also "Military Base" which gives about 450 in both engineering and colonial, and "Listening Post" which gives around 350 in espionage, engineering, and colonial. So they are each in the 900-1000 CXP range, just spread over multiple fields. They won't pop in every star cluster but if you visit several clusters you should be able to find a few of each.

    * Trade, sadly, is always pretty slow. The most CXP for a regular assignment is typically the "Long-Distance Trade Routes" one but that assignment takes a long time. After that the best CXP comes from turning in your contraband to the security officer for dilithium which you probably want to do anyways, so it's worth farming that contraband. There are also a variety of assignments to get Gamma Quadrant commodities that you can get from the Trader on DS9. They don't give a lot of CXP but the commodities are used for some of the best medical and science CXP assignments, they are only two hours, and they only take a single doff to run. They also give you some commodities even on a failure and you can normally get 4 or 5 of the assignments at a time. So usually I just keep at them and assume I will get to 100,000 CXP eventually.

There are definitely some good trade assignments that appear in the Dyson Sphere.

    * Recruitment is another slow one. Others have mentioned breaking down doffs into lower doffs and this is fine if you have enough free doff slots. I normally farm the Academy assignments for white doffs to use in Fleet Projects so I assume I will get there sooner or later.

One more tip: get a Consultant doff that gives a bonus to CXP. It doesn't seem like much at first but it adds up.

    Hope that helps! :)

Sorry for the late post. Here are my suggestions since I just obtained rank 4 in Diplomacy on my Fed:

The Badlands Battlezone does not currently have duty officer missions. I don't remember if it had any previously.

The nebulas in several sector blocks, like Azlesa Expanse (a square icon of three figures) or ChoS Nebula (two square brackets that look like [] ), can have Diplomacy DOFF assignments. Just look for the icons in the Galaxy Map or Area Map.

Also check out the sectors perpendicular to Qo'nos: Azure (by New Romulus) and Khitomer, Donatu (by Drozana Station) and Archanis.

"Audit diplomatic correspondence from the _____" seems to give the most XP at about a thousand for critical success. "Entertain foreign dignitaries" is at 328 XP, followed by "Review diplomatic correspondence from the ____" and "Verify diplomatic correspondence from the _____" at around 255 XP.

    Hope that helps.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect. But actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey ... stuff. --the Doctor, "Blink"
