Tactical Grenade

For years Military and Law Enforcement have used a Flash-Bang grenade. It seems reasonable that STO would have something similar in ground combat. It would have the following effects.

1. Blind opponents in a AoE area for 2 seconds.(acting like a scramble sensors on the ground combat)

2. Stun opponents in AoE area for 1 second (slow effect)

3. Create a smoke screen effect like the smoke grenade.

Very few things are as frustrating as targeting a group of opponents. Only to see them immediately disperse before you can use a weapon on them.

Stun and smoke both already exist as you mention, no need for a super grenadey stu.

For debuffing and holds, have a space magic science boff or two on your away team.

Grenades kinda suck since they have a ~10s shared cooldown now, and fairly long individual cooldowns. It made grenadier builds useless overnight when they put that in. Science does AOE damage/stun way better too.

the major problem here seems to be that a weak weapon is used.

grab a phaser full auto rifle (dsc) from the lobi store, upgrade that one , hammer the primary firemode and watch everything die in seconds. If a Lobi weapon is out of reach, grab a plasma wide beam rifle and annihilate groups of enemies with your secondary attack . could be bought at mk 1 at new romulus or dyson command and than upgrade it with a omega tech (or experimental tech) + 1.5x quality improvement accelerator till its mk vii or so (just the first bulk of techpoints). if its epic till then, continue with phoenix upgrades and 1.5x tech point accelerator, otherwise start again ;)

just dont use the shooter mode, but use aim (usualy x) and crouch (usualy c) to do even more damage and get reduced damage from ranged attacks ;)

if you're interested in what else to use, feel free to check our guides at www.sto-league.com

It's not that they're so much a weak weapon. Some can be useful, like the Neurotronic. PErsonally if I'm using something like this, I go the micro-torp spread route.

The problem here is, we have multiple ways to increase weapon damage. But we have almost nothing in the way of helping grenades, the terran ground torp, and the micro-torp spread's damage. Sure in skills you can adjust to have full Kit Performance and a Readiness. Thus giving them a little damage boost and cut the cooldown a little. But there aren't any ground traits to help this out. As tac officer, it's just better to seat the Security Team trait and let them throw the grenades.

everything boosting your crth, crtd, +% all damage, +% bonus all damage will enhance it. in additon, kperf does exactly the same there.

Yes, but that is not my point. My point is, look at all the traits we have that straight up boost ground weapon damage itself. Then look how many traits we have that boost grenade damage itself.

    Many vs None.

You can toss crth, crtd, +% all, +% bonus all out there all you want. That's nothing more than a bandaid on the problem itself.

It's why grenades are fallin to the unused category. It's just easy to stack up everything you can for ground weapon damage and facemelt everything in one shot.

I've always been baffled why in all those war movies and TV shows, where a simple Rifle Grenade could be a game changer, practically no one ever has one to deploy. They'd rather have people get exposed trying to work into a better firing position. ???
