May I suggest that ALL item drops (including lock boxes) be up for grabs by all. I am a level 65 player with potent firepower, and where ever I go all drops seem to be for me, even when I do not feel like I earned them. Many times I just leave them behind, and I really want other players to be able to pick them up if I abandon them.
If you're in a team and everyone passes on the loot, then whoever wants it can typically go back and scoop it up. If you're a solo player the drops will all be for you. Can you be a bit more specific as I'm not really sure what you're asking? From the way you've worded things, what you want is what already exists
"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again." - Jean Luc Picard in Star Trek Generations
Don't know if it's different for us on Xbox, but I thought you only saw loot that was for you. I mean everyone that sees any drops is the only one who see those drops, others will see their drops etc. Just as they can't see your loot drops you can't see theirs, so it doesn't matter what you pick up as it's only their for you. The reason I say this is because in maps like the badlands at the end of the final 5 minute fight there could be a ton of drops in the map but nobody else can seem to interact with them, they just pass through while they auto collect for me when I pass them.

Yeah in BZs what darkblade said only applies if you're actually teamed.
Random junk in open-world maps has never been lootable by anyone but the intended recipient. It doesn't stay indefinitely, eventually it despawns to declutter. I think this is an anti-griefing thing to keep people from stealing loot.
To All;
Yes, in group or teams, yes, that is true. But what I am talking about is areas like the badlands, the battlezones and so on. Yes, 99.99% is junk to be cashed in, it just seems to me it should be up for grabs for everyone.
Option (as a toggle with filters) to have automatic collection of loot would be good for both PC and an upgrade on the consoles very basic system.
Also consoles need to have the auto loot range sorted out, it's idiocy that you need to fly into a drop to collect it while on a ground map it can be in another room yet still able to magic itself into your bag. If anything it should be the other way around as you're on a ship with transporters.

I have played games in which it is possible to steal others' loot and it never does the game any good.

On console, you only see your own loot.
