Best Farmable Ground Set and Kits - KDF Especific

caio492caio492 Member Posts: 79 Arc User
Hi there! FED player here since I began playing this game and never bothered to look for good farmable ground sets for my character, went straight to Reputation Sets.

Now I'm gearing up my old TAC KDF toon (max lvl) and the end game ground content is a bit hard without proper equipment and I have no idea what set to look out for, this goes for kits too. Can anyone share some light in this matter?

Big thank you in advance!

Well... the Jem'Hadar set is easy to get a hold of... if you can stand Of Bajor.

This might help you out in terms of ground sets.

The question is a little unclear.. there is no such thing as a 'KDF Centric' ground set. All the sets in the game are usable by all factions.

If you're looking at ground sets that you can get entirely through missions, the best of them would be the Na'Kuhl Temporal Operative Set, and the Romulan Imperial Navy set.

Personally, I prefer the Na'Kuhl.. I usually run the shield on my ground builds and carry the weapon just to get the 2pc bonus. These two, and the above quoted Jem'Hadar set are probably the best you can get from 'farmable ground missions.'

If you're going for full ground sets then these are mission rewards:
    Kentari: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Excessive_Development
    Romulan Operative: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Furtive_Perseverance
    Romulan Imperial Navy: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Romulan_Imperial_Navy
    Jem Hadar Shroud: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Jem'Hadar_Armored_Shroud
    Na'kuhl Temporal Operative: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Na'kuhl_Temporal_Operative

If you are not specifically looking for full sets, but individual gear for your character and boffs then this mission is one for quick replay and rewards: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_The_Core_of_the_Matter

For Klingons i like the rewards from this mission as well:
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_Alpha

You can also check the mission rewards to see if there is anything you fancy:
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Episode_replay

    For kit modules:
    Replay: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_A_Fistful_of_Gorn
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Universal_Kit_Module_-_Plasma_Feedback_Cascade
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Universal_Kit_Module_-_Chroniton_Jolt
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Universal_Kit_Module_-_Jam_Subspace_Transmissions

The biggest problem is going to be in finding decent personal shields.
If you have access to the Sompek Personal shield i would recommend that as a stop gap:

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

heh, easiest personal shield is made by a doff mission. The assignment pops in personal and has the name "Reverse Engineer Alien Personal Shield technology".

It has a special effect that basically gives it a free [Mob] modifier.

Or pick them up from the exchange. Just checked and the rare mobility shields are listed for about 7500-8000 EC

This is my preference as well. Combining the 2 pc Na'kuhl PSG and weapon with fleet or mission farmable recoil compensating armor and your choice of a primary weapon works very well. The PSG's distortion effect is like a get out of jail free card making it imho one of the best in-game and the 2 piece bonus from carrying the set weapon is quite noticeable.

If it's not your fancy questerius made a great list.

It is a good combo and user (read newbie) friendly. The Kentari set also has some interesting features, but it is not the easiest ground set to use. It tends to draw a lot of aggro while much of the damage potential has a small delay.

Probably best used on an engineer so in case of the OP (KDF-Tac) it is less than optimal.

Good call. The Sompek Personal Shield is the same way. It's not the greatest shield, but it's pretty nice and you can claim it for your captain as well as all your bridge officers.

I am slowly leveling a new alt and her and her entire crew are wearing the Guerrilla Armor with Sompek Shields.

Hi everyone! Thx for all the responses, thats exactly what I needed!! I play STO a lot but I don't like to delve in some more complicated aspects of builds and everything, I just try to find a build/set that works and go for it.

I decided to farm the Na'kuhl set and work on the Sompek shield, for the time being.

Thx again for your time, much appreciated!

ground gear is easy to get :)

Kitframe: universal kentari Kitframe from Fleet-Colony with kperf, radiant, wpncrit, wpndmg
    Armor: advanced fleet recoil compensating
ev suit: armored enviromental suit (reward box from nukara rep), reenged mods to crtd, crth, ene
    shield: nakuhl (episode reward)
primary weapon: widebeam plasma rifle or herald staff or boolean or plasma corfeld mining cutter (episode reward) or tommygun or one of the other good choices out there ;)
secondary: nakuhl, just for the set bonus

for the modules it depend a bit on the profession ;)
for a tac i would use:
    rally cry (rnd)
motivation (exchange) or return fire (command spec)
    graviton spike (summer event)
    and two of the following:
    crystal prism
    echo papa drone
    sompek lightning
    ambush
    paradox bomb or gravitational juncture
    polaron bombardement (situational)
    protomatter ammunition (situational)

since you said you have other toons you should have the resources to get the kitframe and armor from your fleet holdings. in case your fleet is not high enough and havent unlocked the holdings, you could just get an invite from someone else to their holding to use the shops (with your provisions) there.
a decent "free" armor would be the terran guerilla combat armor, but the fleet one is defnitly the better one.

That's a great list.. if you're looking for a top notch ground load out, this is great advice to follow.

Just curious feli, you ever use Trajectory Bending? I always thought that was a really good module. I use it instead of Rally Cry because I hate the long animation for RC.

I have also been playing with Harmonic Resonance Device, it seems to hit pretty hard but I haven't actually parsed it. Have you tried it?

Maybe a bit fancy though. It should also be noted that synergy in a build is more important than individual modules.
There is also the issue that not all modules are usable against all NPC. E.g. this one has a nasty tendency to heal Tholians:
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Universal_Kit_Module_-_Protomatter_Munition_Deployment

Also the Polaron Bombardment and protomatter Munition Deployment have relatively long deploy times and are less suited against fast moving opponents.

Depending on your play style you may like stun grenades: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Tactical_Kit_Module_-_Stun_Grenade or photon grenades: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Tactical_Kit_Module_-_Photon_Grenade

Pick up cheap white kit modules on the exchange and play with their use to find out which suit you best. Then you can visit a colony or fleet asset to get upgraded versions on said kits modules.

yes thats a good one too @seaofsorrows. but rallycry is a teamwide buff including crth, crtd, hot and resistance buff. its the all in one thing. if you use kit overbooster you should be able to use one after another.

and quest @questerius protomatter and polaron have some time but usualy you pull them together with graviton spike or something like that, they are nocked and you vaporize them with that one. if you buff that with ambush.. yea thats a heavy hit ^^.

if you want something that hits directly, i would HIGHLY recommend the sompek lightning. and i dont think that the list is fancy, those are the best modules a tac could use usualy (maybe i forgot 1-2). evne those teamwide buffs are great, bc when you (and your allies are buffed) everything will die waaay faster

A nice (antiproton) Split Beam Rifle [CrtD]x4 seems to work good also as another option, with the nakuhl PSG & weapon as a secondary.

Really like the guides and builds on your website btw. Always nice to see both budget and full builds as well.

I am really enjoying the Sompek Pulsewave Assault. I use it on my characters that don't have a Herald Staff and so far it seems quite effective. It even has a nice AOE in place of the Melee attack that buffs your shields.. pretty nice.

I may have to work Rally Cry back into my rotation.. it's so hard picking from the long list of kits that I always want to bring.

    @felisean
I know the combo with graviton spike or paradox or gravitational (btw the elachi kit module also helps pull this off albeit with a bit more risk). I mean fancy in that it is high end or from boxes and i read the OP request as a budget style build for a tactical player. With a budget style build (no box, summer/winter event or reputation modules) you can get awesome results as well and for me personally i like the less than nuclear play style. E.g. for my Orion i use a stealthier play style with an ambush/stun grenade opener.

yea but i mean things like echo papa drone is ~1m right now, event stuff is for free. you could literaly get a top end equipped toon with close to no money for ground. including traits its usualy not more than 50m ec

Yeah, he's right.. all this stuff is cheap.

The only thing that's expensive is Graviton Spike, you would have to buy the favors off the exchange.. but even that, you can just wait until the Summer Event and get it for free.

Ground modules are surprisingly easy to acquire. Even the ones you have to buy off the exchange aren't that expensive. Compared to gearing up for space it's practically free.
