Extra character slot

wraithknight#4461 wraithknight Member Posts: 78 Arc User
We just recently got another free character slot and wondering if it's for an upcoming event? Or is it ok to use now?

It would be nice if the developers gave us another chance (on consoles) for Agents of Yesterday or other new character events.

While I'm here, any advice y'all folks can offer on how to play each character without getting burnt out? I know nobody can "tell" me how to play but advice and motivation are always helpful, I can barely keep up with the 7 characters I already have and gathering marks and dil can be a bummer, its weird because I can burn countless hours on Fallout and XCOM but 4 to 7 hours on STO drains me when I actually like and enjoy the game.

There is no known upcoming Delta/Temporal/w.e. event rerun coming up that we have been told about.

The new character slot was just a freebee for the character creator revamp.

Ok, I guess I'll make a TOS Andorian, after watching all of ST Enterprise (I loved Enterprise, sue me and hate me) giving Andorians life and Captain Shon is cool (that moment when arriving to help Qo'nos) and I'm mostly a TOS fan so that's that.

    Thanks 😁

I created my Andorian captain Grey partly so I could replay the full (but all too short) TOS sequence, and partly as someone to fly a T6 Andorian escort.

Once I get my Andorian to Lv65 she'll be flying the Fek'ihri we got from Q or a Temporal Battlecruiser since I'm too stubborn to buy anymore boxes and lobi ships.

    The T6 Andorian ships are C-Store - https://sto.gamepedia.com/Andorian_Chimesh_Pilot_Escort

The Chinesh is 3000 zen, are C-store escort ships really good?

Believe it or not some bozos made fun of me for using Vanguard Dreadnought and temporal battlecruiser because of being c-store ships, so saving EC to buy an NX off the exchange.

Since Cryptic brought back the Delta recruitment event that gives a precedence for the AoY recruitment event at some future date.

I have 13 characters on my primary STO account and another 5 on my secondary STO account which is strictly free 2 play. I don't have time to play all those characters. I rarely play my 2nd account though I usually long in long enough to do events like the current First Contact Day event on the PC. I rotate through my characters on my primary account. The exception is my 13th character which is the Jem'hadar recruit. I don't play that character very much because my hands are full just rotating through my other characters when I have time to play.

    They were idiots, ignore them.

Some lockbox / lobi / R&D pack ships have slightly better seating or a nicer trait than many C-Store ships, but not enough to make a real difference. Your gear loadout, bridge officer powers, and your own skill matter much more.

Escorts are harder to fly than cruisers, especially if you use cannons or dual beam banks with their narrow firing arcs. They hit much harder IF you can stay on target, and if you don't blow up :)

I fly different kinds of ships on different captains: carriers, science, cruisers, escorts can all be fun if you're in the right mood. Cruisers are the easiest to do well with, but that doesn't make them bad in any way.

I have to agree. Someone making fun of another person for using a C-Store ship instead of a Lockbox ship is acting rather Trollish.

One of the best Sci Ships in game is actually C-Store, being the Temporal Multi-Mission. Most C-Store ships are actually pretty decent ships. I say most because there are a few that are a little too heavy on the BOff seating *Glares at T6 Excelsior's heavy Engie lean*.

The Andorian Escorts are pretty good.. the have a high damage capability and pilot maneuvers that make them pretty fun to play. They are however, much softer then Cruisers or Battle Cruisers and they take some finesse to keep them alive. Overall, I like them, but I always end up flying something else.

As for the C-Store comment, that's exactly why you never, never, ever listen to any advice given in Zone Chat. There are two types of people in Zone Chat, people too stupid to give good advice, and people who are intentionally giving bad advice to troll you.

Generally speaking, when people refer to the 'best' ships, they mean the ones with the highest damage capability. By that standard, the 3 'best' ships in the game right now are the Vaadwaur Juggernaut, The Gagarin/Qugh Miracle Worker Battle Cruisers, and the Jem'Hadar Vanguard Warship. Two of those 3 ships are C-Store ships.

If you have questions, ask here or on Reddit.. don't get burned by Zone trolls.

Thank y'all for the good replies.

I actually had considered that discovery bundle but Arc took away the discount right before I had the chance to buy it but $120 for a couple ships is definitely not a good deal so I squeezed myself for the discovery starter pack since it was on sale to help my new Andorian. The twin blue phasers from the Constitution and Agony torpedo helps, too bad I can't reclaim the old Steamrunner ship but see that it's still not fixed, it shows higher stats and hull but less than T1 when opened.

The multi-mission sounds interesting, and fast escorts were difficult to fly but had practice from old Ace Combat games and by making the mistake of putting Competitive Wargame engine and deflector on my T6 Constitution.

As for those c-store bullies, I usually ignore them but some bozos actually claim to have STO/Arc in their fleets so I just ignored them since I didn't want a ban hammer for responding to the STO/Arc pets. Even tho I'm on Xbox, I don't want to risk it.

I really like the Vanguard Dread. I got mine from the Vanguard starter pack for my Jems.

And I agree with rattler, love the Temporal MM. C-store ships are not inferior ships and the 'best' ship is what you think is best for you. Whether someone else thinks your choice is bad is irrelevant. I mostly like to fly cruisers or destroyers myself, but I do fly lots of science vessels and one or two escorts-raiders.

It's all according to what your captain likes to fly.

I'm mostly a Cruiser Commander too, but I have characters flying science as well. My KDF is currently flying the Sarco, but also has fully outfitted cruisers and a raider.

Yeah, I outfit several ships per character, mostly using mission rewards and such. It's a lot of fun to do and that's why I play, to have fun and escape the RW for awhile ;)

And I've been told I suck too, several years ago, during a MI event. Was flying the star cruiser at the time. Didn't see the post till the event was over cause I never pay attention to the chatbox.

It was basically "Leonid, you suck! Look at me!"

Have no idea who it was and didn't care. I did what I could in there and that's all that mattered,

Basic rule for store ships, wait for sales.

Basic rule for STO, its actually quite hard to do things wrong. Sub-optimal or avoiding being a disciple of the meta perhaps but rarely wrong.

I remember, a little over a year ago.. I had a player in a random queue tell me I sucked because I was using Cannons on a Scimitar. This player apparently just figured that a Scimitar couldn't pull it off and anyone that tried it just 'sucked.' I should point out, I blew up about 10 ships to every one he got.

I was actually ahead of the curve, this was before the competitive engines dropped, so cannons on a big ship was still a pretty rare thing.

People sometimes do that.. they see you doing something different from what they do and they think their way is the only way. This is why I usually turn off Zone Chat.. the amount of bad advice and 'know it all's' that actually know nothing.. is just horrid.

This is all pretty accurate. Overall, I always say.. if what you're doing is working for you.. then you're doing it right. If you're able to complete content, if you're pulling your weight in a queue group.. then you're doing it 'right.' The 'Meta' is and always has been a suggested guideline, some people feel the need to copy/paste it.. and that's fine if that's fun for them, but it's never necessary.

Do things your way, in this game you're always adapting.

Same here. Fun is what it's all about at the end of the day.

As for the character slot, I can't say I've noticed. There doesn't seem to be any "recruit events" on the horizon that I know of. Would love to see one, though!

    Seaofsorrows,
I went against the know-it-all's rule and made the C-store Vanguard dreadnought a phased polaron cannon/turret build for my Jem'Hadar Vanguard (the Vanguard Jem'hadar STRONK! Better than Klingons!) and at MK15 it does over 2k per dual heavy cannon and my turn rate actually works and I'm not even using competitive engine. I was persistent and actually made a powerful build even tho the Vanguard was screwed with only 3 tactical consoles but fortunately there are non-tactical consoles that boosts polaron. In other words my Vanguard dreadnought is every know-it-alls and space barbie's worst nightmare.

    JamieBlanchard,
I know it's all about fun, but times the fun feeling is drowned out buy bozos name calling because we didn't close all errant rifts and for not protecting him/her, on the other hand folks want to be nice to me when I fly the T6 Constitution and T6 Atlas.

Of topic, just curious, Optronix or Orion Pax?
