help me decide - valiant vs alita

telbasta7386telbasta7386 Member Posts: 761 Arc User
So ive been slowly working on upgrading each of my characters to a t6 ship. My rom got a juhael warbird first, then i got the support cruiser/battlecruiser pack for my kdf and fed, im probably going to get a jemhadar vanguard carrier for my dominion character next.

That leaves my fed engineer who it's still flying a t5 vesta. Im pretty sure i want to go with an escort and a phaser-quantum loadout. Right now im looking at the alita and valiant as possible options, as i have the earlier versions of both ships along with their console/equipment sets.

The alita would give me hangar pets and torpedo point defense, but is slower and heavier. The valiant would give me quad cannons, quantum warhead, and battle cloaking in a smaller and faster ship.

Just looking for some opinions to sway me one way or the other.

If you're going with an escort, you might want to give the T6 Pilot Ships a serious look. They have a great weapon and console layout, versitile bridge officer seating, built in pilot maneuvers and they're fleet quality right from the store.

The Andorian Escorts from the Allied Bundle are the same way. Currently, these are the best Escorts you can get.

The options you're considering aren't bad ships by any means, just if you're looking at all options you might want to have a look at those. Pilot Maneuvers can be a lot of fun.

I looked into the pilot escorts as i do like how they look, but it would cost me twice as much as I'd have to buy the 3 ship pack to get any kind of customization or the console set bonus from them.

Would give you the ship's Tier 5 mastery trait Withering Barrage as well.

Is scatter volley worth using over rapid fire? I typically use rapid fire + torpedo spread

Given the masses of enemies usually faced CSV + torpedo spread seem to work well as they're both multiple target. I understand what you're saying about drilling a hole into a single target though. CSV had it's firing arc opened up to 90 degrees as well about a year ago.

Scatter Volley is best against masses of enemies which is what you face most of the time. Rapid Fire is superior vs. one large target. If you're going with something like the Valiant that has a Commander Tactical, you can actually just take them both and use them as you need.

As @protoneous said though, Withering Barrage is probably the best thing you get with the Valiant, it's an amazingly good trait. If you're running that, you will want to be running Scatter Volley in most situations. You'll be clearing maps with little effort, it's a very powerful trait. I consider it a 'must have' trait for Cannons.
