This is a continuing bug that is game breaking for me and has not been fixed since I originally reported it almost a year ago.
When on a space map, usually an PvP map, and at high speed using any combination of : Evasive maneuvers, Attack Pattern Omega, or Emergency Power to Engines, the "Chase" camera setting will break. It has happened though under pretty much every space combat scenario both PvP and PvE including STFs.
Once the chase mode breaks, the camera swivels back and forth rapidly on its axis. Its awful. This has happened to me continuously now, over two separate accounts in a wide variety of ships from a BoP to a Kumari.
The only way I can stop the camera swiveling back and forth rapidly after it breaks is to hold my mouse button down in the center of the map/screen and drag it back into focus or place.
Can anything be done about this? I've talked to others who have this problem too.

i have the same bug at random times, i also found that (x)[/camToggleSTOTargetLock] works for me, i hit it 2 times, and my camera is back to normal
Its very frustrating that there are things on here that get quick Dev QA attention, like the heavy turret barrage power not working right, and other threads are completely ignored. Shouldn't old issues be tackled in order and given higher priority than new issues?
Can a QA person please take a look at this? This is a known issue and has been going on for a year.
Thanks so much for looking into it. Use my handle @gooddaytodie, character Grok, fly the BoP Heghta Heavy in a Arena or other PvP map, hit all the speed buffs and fly like your life depended on it and you should be able to reproduce it.
Had this bug too, for years. Fast moving ship + movement buffs and go 'weeeeeeeee' until the camera gives up chasing and starts jerking randomly around until you manually drag the PoV to reset it. (usually happens in dog-fights on PvP maps, although that could just be where I'm whizzing around giving the chase-cam a hard time...)
I am investigating, but so far have been unable to reproduce the issue.
A simple way to reproduce it:
1. Jump in the Hunter Heavy Escort,
2. set your camera to "chasecam"
3. go full speed while turning
4. use the Enhanced Inertial Damper Field Universal Console.
While doing the 180 turn , the camera will go wild.
But this is not happening only in this specific case. My camera loses her setup in dogfight, while fast ships pass by me; or while i'm simply turning way too fast. Pressing twice X helps but that's shouldn't be the solution.
I really hope you can solve this; best of luck.
Additional info: this happens while i have selected an enemy, while turning and at high speeds. And it manifests like the camera is "undecided" between chase cam and follow target.
I have also had the camera go mental on me, but I typically notice it after my target ship has used Subspace Jump whilst nominally in front of me. This doesn't happen all the time, but can happen pretty often under the above circumstances.
In terms of video evidence, an upcoming video in my Romulan 'Let's Play' series has this happen to me, shortly after my mouse battery had died! Fortunately I was able to fix it pretty quickly (I think I hit Esc to deselect the target which cleared it). Unfortunately, that video isn't due until the end of July, and I am no longer in a position to be able to extract that part of the footage, but hopefully this will be an easier way to create a reproducible issue, as you can just pile up ships in front of you and make them subspace jump while you're flying around with weapons fire everywhere.
Like most bugs, it seems to be more common the more stuff is happening in the map.
As others have mentioned, manually dragging the camera around (temporarily breaking the 'follow target' thing) seems to clear it nicely. It kinda looks to me like the camera was not designed to follow a target capable of moving fast enough to require such a large and sudden rotation.
I have also had a problem with the chase camera, though its not this one. My problem is that It will randomly re-enable itself whilst I am in combat.
I like freecam, I never set my camera to anything else, but often during an STF or a bit of PVP STO will randomly decide to switch my camera mode to chase.
I doubt this is related but as it only seems to happen when I'm in combat, and this new bug with their camera going wonky also only seems to happen in combat maybe there is a conection?
I encounter this issue, too, every once in a while.
Usually happens when using evasive maneuvres and actually fly curves during the duration of the ability.
Pressing "x" only provides help for me if a taget is selected.

i also have had this exact issue...i have noticed that this seems to only happen to me when im using W,A,S,D to fly my ship....
any update on this issue would be nice ty
I'd hate for this thread to get buried and forgotten about. This issue is still happening, when using wasd to steer my ship while using multiple speed buffs in various space maps.
I posted this thread a month ago and still no confirmation or fix in sight...I don't know what else to do here? Do I have to stop flying escorts all together? Looking at this sub-forum, you guys have more than your hands full I'm sure. Tell your bosses they need to bring on more people to help.

This is going on 3 years with no official confirmation or fix in sight.... spam X (default keybind), or stop using chase cam, unfortunately. Hope you don't have a seizure.

Spamming x can be difficult under heavy server load (....laaags...), some input commands are lost.
It still appears....how to reproduce? There are different options:
- you need a fast ship (sth. 35+x) and mid to high turn rate
- if you have some connection issues, it appears
- if you have some team members using kemocite, it appears
- if you have a crowded PvE area (e.g. Mirror Invasion, Badlands BZ,... )
The bug appears almost everytime, if you match 2 or more of those conditions.
Its not a "big deal" if you use a crusier like vessel with beams, but if you decide to use cannons on an escort / raider, it can be game breaking.
Well here we are all of these years later and the Chase Camera is (sigh)...... still not fixed. I have written my yearly anniversary 2019 letter to Tech support and included video, Forums from Reddit. I see from the last patch that we had time to redo the Create New Character page. Yep, I can see how that would be so much more important than a in game tool such a Chase Camera that has been waiting repair since 2010/2011.
