Star Trek: The Motion Picture 40th Anniversary - Dec 2019

Hard to believe, but this year marks 40 years since TMP was released! Hopefully there are plans for STO to celebrate this milestone as they did with the DS9 25th anniversary - was on a long drive yesterday and couldn't get this thought out of my head. There's so much they could do for it..!

Missions: A special one-off mission or event to mark the anniversary, showcasing all the new TMP/Movie era items/designs people can win or buy. Could either be time travel, or a historical mission involving V'Ger from either the Fed or KDF side, using the beautiful new Connie Refit model they made
Costumes: To add to the TMP uniform set, an Engineering radiation suit, maybe an Ilia robe for off duty wear
Spacesuits: The White and Orange spacesuits (also in ST2) - with or without thruster suits :)
Items: TMP Phasers and tricorders, with KDF getting special equivalents (maybe from ST3)
Pets: a Travel Pod or Work Bee space pet
Ships: A Surak class Vulcan warp shuttle? Or, maybe re-release the T6 Constitution Refit and T6 K'Tinga as part of a Bridge Officer/upgrade pack?
Bridge/Interior: Gotta be the TMP bridge and interiors for a C-Store pack, which I'm sure would sell like hotcakes...

Just a wish list I know, but what other TMP or movie era offers or items would you like to see?

my fav of the films. :)

If they give an Ilia robe, hope we get those heels with 'em.

I'd love to see the K'tinga bridge and the TMP Klingons, the 'Beast Man' style ones. THEY are my fav.

Pointless waste of time. A film that only exists to show off its special effects and stretches a 10 minute plot into over 2 hours and contains some of the worst costume and interior design to ever feature on film.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Can't help but agree. I literally fought to stay awake the first time I watched it as a teenager. Those shots of Enterprise leaving spacedock are hard to get through

Yes yes yes yes!!!! -everything you suggested annnnd-

I would suggest we get Kirk's Short Sleeve tunic, with hairy arms for men HAHA. And we need the casual tunics the crew wore and away team jackets. SUlu and the Space Dock tunics were like Starfleet kimono's/robes which would be a nice male variant of the Ilea' robe!
The TMP Phaser effects could be updated so that setting 1 is a pulse beam and setting two is the current 4 tiny beams but make the four tiny beams light the target on fire (as it did in wrath of khan when kirk shot the slug.

I would also suggest the Starfleet Security Uniforms with helmets.

As a special ability I would like to see a Vger Plasma Torpedo and maybe upgraded Deflector console or Shields that have special buffs against plasma and antipolaron energy.

The fleet action could be "The Cloud" and tie in to the new Borg content we see hinted lately...

I also agree 1000 percent we need a T6 Oberth class, and perhaps TMP torpedoes with those exadurated beams that shine off of them.

Yes- a re-release of T6 Constitution and the Motion Picture Interior!!

    Spocks Kulinar robe...

A Voyager 6 Space probe pet.

Kirk's star base shuttle that ferry's him to the Enterprise as pet as well.

Maybe a Special Item to imbalance your warp core causing "Wormhole Effect" to use in sector space travel.

I would vote this to be a temporal displacement mission where you're on the Enterprise A during the Vger mission, preventing some temporal agent who wants to sabotage the Enterprise. Scotty could reprise his role as he had a pretty big sentimental part in the movie. Maybe get the actor that played Decker on board?

This would mostly be a tribute as the gear and items aren't that in demand, but I know myself and many others would love this. My primary toon is a TOS character who uses a Connie Refit T6 and Undiscovered lock box weaponry.... so this would complete my TMP set.

I don’t think you are gonna see the actor that played Decker anywhere near this game. Just google Stephen Collins

The OP seems like a lot of work to do to mark the anniversary of one of the worst films ever made. Not just in Star Trek history but in history in general.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Heh you rephrased my comment about DSC 😄

Seriously, TMP has a lot of filler, though I prefer the calm moments to the non-stop pod racing scenes (I hate these dumb "dun-dun-dun" sounds of EVERYTHING in sci-fi flying past the camera since 2001). I personally like that Picard's crew take their time to discuss events instead of shouting and jumping on the bridge.

It's a matter of taste. The Enterprise-TRIBBLE of TMP and the shuttle scene from DSC both did nothing to advance the piece. But I prefer it non-explosion-y and only have action when it's actually thrilling, not all the time.

If I did it would be wrong. DSC uses modern special effects to enhance and tell the story (YMMV about how well that works, I certainly don't agree with all of it) but TMP uses special effects to pad out its runtime and cover up for the fact there's not enough plot to fill the allotted time.

I'll take the pod racing thing in DSC S2E1 (which I personally thought was pointless), the intent is to make the transit from the ship to the asteroid more interesting (hence the plot plot about shuttles and transporters not working) and increase the danger so they can kill off Connolly. The half hour flyby of the Enterprise in TMP doesn't do anything for the plot. Both Scotty and Kirk will have seen it before hand and the viewer gets a good look at it throughout the film, all it exists for is anopportunityy to show off the new model.

TWoK and TUC have much more of a balance, TMP doesn't have balance. It has permeating dullness where effects are broken for exposition.

Also, DSC is a series and tMP is a film, it'd be more fair to compare TMP to another film. ID would be a good example but just because ID did it it doesn't make it right that TMP also does it. (Also, apart from the presence of Harrison ID has a much better plot than TMP and can fill almost its whole runtime).

Special event: Getting to stare at 2 ships for 10 minutes with occasional cuts to your characters' blank expressions. And as an optional objective, you can kill 2 crewmembers with a transporter accident.

The V'Ger Torp is already in game and has been for many years i.e. an Overloaded Torp from the Omega Rep Torp. Just listen for the sound effect and watch a ship vaporize as you kill a ship with it.

The Oberth was not in TMP was it, so it's unlikely you'll get it at T6 at this time.

I highly doubt they will re-release the T6 Connie, it's already in-game. Had it not been in-game already, they would release it in Lockbox format.

As for the 'mission' I would want this to be the signalling of a Rebirth of the Borg rather than a Temporal mission. V'ger's design is already represented in-game, so a mega-sized V'ger, pretty much on the scale of the Voth Cap ships is very possible.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

While the Oberth may have not been in that movie itself it was still of the movie timeline and it's the remaining TMP era ship which needs the T6 treatment.

One wish is that the weird fanfic of bizarre refits of Starfleet ships never happens in STO. It's up there with adding three nacelles to other ships for stupid things fans do that has only ever happened once.

The Conni is the only TMP ship that was a earlier ship and the Galaxy-X is the only Starfleet ship where an extra nacelle was rammed onto an older ship.

The only refits done to the Excelsior and Miranda's in DS9 were giving them TNG style phaser strips and lighting the Miranda's sensor dome. They didn't paint them in TNG cream and stick Galaxy nacelles on them so there's no need to paint TOS era silver and stick Miranda nacelles on them. It's a lot of pointless work for Starfleet and it's be cheaper to scratch build a new ship.

Though, considering they've linked the Constellation and the utterly unrelated Cheyenne class somebody at Cryptic might have also thought it was reasonable fanfiction. Though as they also didn't link the Gemini and Sagittarius to the Constellation it's possible they realised it was stupid fanfiction.

I love Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I’m a starship lover and this movie shows off one of the most beautiful versions of the Enterprise. And while I agree that the story drags towards the end, I love all of the little Easter egg moments in the film. Anyone who has ever paid attention to the Epsilon 9 comm traffic at the beginning of the movie should know what I’m talking about.
Hallmark is releasing a Star Trek The Motion Picture 2019 Christmas Ornament that I’m looking to add to my starship collection.
Would also like to see STO do something for this event.

Every film/series/episode will be somebody's favorite and somebody else's most hated.

But ST:TMP has a special place in the hearts of so many of us who saw the impossible, our hopelessly canceled TV show resurrected. Love it or hate it, it manifested the opportunity for ST to continue as a 50+ year franchise. So yeah, +1 on doing something special to commemorate it!

And to those who cast misguided shade on that WONDERFUL flyaround the Enterprise, know that scene was made for people like me, to whom the ship was so iconic that we craved a slow and loving reintroduction to her majesty, in the form that so many of us still think is the best design ever (even across all other SF). <3

As for cool things to create for the game... h

    - V'ger blinding light column probe with electrical attacks +knockback
    - +1 on Kirk's short sleeve uniform & Spock's robes
    - Vulcan warpsled shuttle (vanity pet or flyable)
    - +1 on light-ray torp FX!!! (I think that was done by shining a laser through a rotating faceted crystal)

But my #1 desire for a proper TMP tribute...

    - A jet-pack race through the interior of the V'ger psychedelic memory archives (maybe collecting memory crystals for restoration or something like that)
    Now a top-rated spotlight mission!

+100 to mostly all the wish list items so far.

** The only item I really pray for is a correctly proportioned model of the Movie era K'Tinga, along with the updated skin of TMP or later variants. I would heavily gamble R&D boxes for a model with the Qu'onos One skin.

** I would also use the TOS version of the D7 on one of my characters, if it had the canon KDF symbols on both sides of the pylons with the correct placement and orientation (more so if the model was proportionally updated)

** Items that "we won't get and like it" <-- (funniest comment I've seen in a long time):
    - The Type 2 phaser (ST3) used by Uhura to put the new guy in the closet, mentioned in a previous thread someone posted (not to oversized/scaled)
    - Yes, I would also like to see the Vulcan shuttle used by Spock in the TMP - a pet would be nice. My characters are ready to play shuttle content, but I rarely play shuttle content.
    - Pulse Phasers updated with the TWoK sound effects
    - ST5 Shuttle and/or pet
    - ST3/4 Spacedock/Orbital Shuttle (Some ability that uses them) - or as a pet.

I just hope for a few new or updated items to use from the Movie Era for a potential Anniversary event.
