Rock and Roll greyed-out when using Pilot Maneuvers

alyressalyress Member Posts: 3 Arc User
Greetings, I've noticed that the Pilot Specialization ability Rock and Roll is temporarily greyed-out and unusable for about 5-10 seconds after using a piloting maneuver (double-tapping to burn fuel), such as when flying the pilot class mercury escort. The greyed-out period lasts considerably longer than the time required for the fuel meter to refill.

I do not believe that Rock and Roll should be affected in any way by piloting maneuvers. Non-piloting ships do not have this limitation (since they lack piloting maneuvers and fuel meters), so why should a piloting vessel have such a restriction? Clearly this is a minor bug, but for a captain that uses piloting maneuvers frequently it essentially makes it impossible to use Rock and Roll during combat.

Are your immunity lockout timer cleared? I think both of those things may be effected by that timer.

I am still on Risa..not testing anything, yet.

All player damage immunities now place a 15 second lockout on you, during which you cannot activate or otherwise be affected by any more damage immunities, and are all now “buffs” that can be removed.

where2r1, thank you for your replies. I believe you are correct. I did not realize that piloting maneuvers granted a brief damage immunity (it must be exceptionally brief because it doesn't seem to offer much immunity in practice). In that case, might I suggest a reworking of the Piloting Maneuvers to either ignore this restriction or to no longer grant damage immunity? As a captain of a Pilot vessel I am constantly utilizing piloting maneuvers to move about the battle. They are a defining feature of piloting vessels. With a 15 second lockout timer after using them it makes it very rare that Rock and Roll is available for use, especially in an emergency when it is needed most.

The imbalance is that non-pilot vessels do not have this restriction. Those that possess Rock and Roll can use it as intended, whereas piloting vessels almost always have it greyed-out simply due to making use of their inherent piloting maneuvers. That doesn't seem quite right. It essentially makes it where piloting vessels gain significantly less of a benefit from the Pilot specialization than non-piloting vessels. Anyway, that is just my take on it.

Immunity ALL have this problem with the lockout timer. It completely cripples that Pilot specialization, since there are so many, players have no control over when they "trigger". (Where as, before this timer: if you ran Pilot Specialization immunity was rarely down!)

Try one of the other Specializations as active on Pilot ships...so it can work together with the Pilot maneuvers buttons.

Not sure how to advise you there because I haven't had enough time in battle to look at anything else. Maybe one of the guys will be by to give you advice with that.

"After activating a Pilot Maneuver player will be briefly immune to damage. After performing such a maneuver player must wait a short time before doing another one."

So...you actually have 2 waits on Pilot Maneuvers... .one for the immunity timer, the other for the bar to refill.

Scroll down about half way...past the picture of the Pilot Raptor to read the stuff on Pilot Maneuvers.

OH and here is a picture of the Damage Immunity lockout timer: https://imgur.com/SLfLAMu

The first icon on this particular "buff bar" picture.....with the little lock on it.

I think on the Fed side all that stuff would be blue not orange...
actually, I have no idea, I don't play Fed much at all.

Just look for that little lock...that is the icon for the Immunity lockout timer.

Thanks again for your insights and for the lockout timer picture. I never noticed that before. I may consider switching to a different specialization as well, but it feels kind of wrong not to take it for a piloting vessel.

Well, all I can advise is: now that you know what it looks like, watch for the immunity timer, how it effects your Pilot ship. You will see it does NOT go together as well as you would think (or hope for).
