New Character: Consider more account-wide benefits. =)

strathkinstrathkin Member Posts: 2,666 Bug Hunter
I mean if I add a 10th character I won't even be able to see them all even in high resolution without scrolling. You'd think it be easy if they reduced the horizontal space each character slot is given by 10-20%, perhaps made the logo of their profession use more space within the slot, or made the TEXT slightly bigger in the space that's given. I mean I had 8 character's before ViL, and didn't want to add another, perhaps I dislike seeing the scroll options, cause I want to see all Captains as the order is always changing...

But this isn't the issue!

I'd wish in future they'd stop always giving a new character! Consider a change to so future events allow all existing Captains to work together without always require yet one more Captain being added. Simply have any existing Captains speak to the Temporal Agent for a Device that would continue to unlock rewards as new events, or options required being earned from different episodes or arc's for the various factions!

I mean we already have so many characters with too many ships they still haven't earned mastery in yet. Not to mention far too many characters with Summer & Winter event with far too many outfits you could never possibly all earn. It be nice if Ship Mastery &/or Summer or Winter outfits, moved to being more account-wide benefit's, even if Specialization Points remains an individual benefit.

Yeah with ViL I added a Jemmy toon and now I have to scroll to see my bottom guy. It is annoying, but I'd rather they spend their time fixing real issues. :D Even I didn't believe me when I said they could fix real issues. Just look at the Azure Nebula queue.

Yea don't get me wrong I wish they'd FIX several Q's a lot faster as well as several BUGS. <3

Still the work the UI artist might do to give a little more space at character selection, doesn't impede the work core Developers would be doing, but it would require to be resourced and prioritized. Though it's also something that could likely be done a lot more efficiently perhaps...

Still just some feedback - still you never know they may have already taken that into consideration - we did get one more with ViL.

If you think this is bad, I take it you never played ToR? Can only have 6 characters or else you have to deal with multiple pages.

Yes, scrolling is better than paging.

Do we need to make a new character? Is there any account unlock or reward to push this?

Because it's costing them 2 seconds to do it!

Just because a character slot is given doesn't mean we have to use it right away.

Not true. Every player must create a Discovery captain and buy the starter pack to fly the new Walker scaling ship. Kahless commands it!

FYI, the amount of characters shown depends on your monitor resolution.

I play at 2560x1440 and I don't have to scroll to select between 8 characters. In fact, there is still room for a couple more.

Yeah, why not just scroll...? I mean, I was already scrolling before my ViL character, so adding more isn't an issue. /shrug

edit: and anyway, even if they did tweak the spacing of the character window so you could see one more without scrolling, you'd just be back at the next character event saying "hey, surely we can fit 11 characters without scrolling?"

    This

Lazy or carpal and less hand movement the better? but if they can just reduce the character select button size some to fit more in on 1080p displays... just a question of man hours.

It just be NICE to see all character's is all... Primarily cause the order they are displayed is often changing. I mean don't even really want a 10th character because I don't have time to even play more than my 3-4 MAIN character's as it is.

It's why I'd really love to see a future EVENT:

Allow all your existing Captains to each speak to the Temporal agent to get a device. Then they could all instead work together, without having to be given a new character to earn new rewards, or several just to unlock all episode arc rewards. I mean given most players now will have at least 7 characters, it's less exciting being always given a new character to advance, especially given how many character's we already have.

We already have too many to be earning mastery in each ship to do it 3-7 times let alone 10 or more...

    ON THAT NOTE:
It be great if Summer & Winter Outfit's were transitioned to account-wide benefits especially given the vast # of outfits can be earned and the large number of character's we now have.

I have 54... Wait! 55 after tomorrow. Can we fit all of them on one screen without scrolling, too?

Yeah, I been considering buying one of those room sized UHDTV to play STO on. That should get enough lines in there. LOL!

I don't understand why scrolling is an issue.

Well, in my case the game crashes (PS4). I have 41 characters, and it takes a while to get to the end of the list, as in several minutes, and very often the game gives me a blue screen before I select the character I want. It would be nice if there was an option for more efficient scrolling (name only, reduced graphics or something), but I know I'm in the severe minority. Most people would rather ridicule me for having a lot of characters than offer the possibility of a solution.
