Just curious, but do some Trans people believe they are GayTrekkies? I would assume that a male that transitions into a female and starts dating men would feel that they are heterosexual. However, I could be mistaken since the only body modifications that I might do in the future are cybernetic so I do not understand the thought processes why anyone would transition. Being able to see the entire EM spectrum does have a certain appeal.

It seems to me that a LGBT+ channel would be better represented by a name like Starfleet Rainbow or something to do with IDIC. A name like GayTrekkies only seems to represent the sexual preference portion of the LGBT+ community and not the gender identity portion of the LGBT+ community.

I guess I don't get it-most of the active channels don't give a sh*t about that, does this mean you don't want to talk to the rest of us or what?

It is a safe place for the LGBT+ community. There are lots of trolls that like to hate on our community, so we don't want none of that. If that is all right with you!

"TRIBBLE" is used as a all incompassing term for LGBT+ community. The T in LGBT stands for Transgender and the A or + stands for everything else like Allies, Asexual, Poly and so on.

that's the part I don't get-two of the oldest and most respected fleets in the game are already set up with that kind of community (and their own channels) and aside from some of the more vile activity in ESD zone chat, there's really no need to bunker in a ghetto. see, there's another term for 'safe spaces'; Echo Chambers.

They don't fix the problem, they make it worse.

just consider the backlash if someone were to announce a "Straight white male" channel, or how about a "Trekkies for Trump" channel? one of the things about a free society, is the ability to accept differences without needing to hide or resort to a bunker. There are channels already in place, and for the rest, the majority would be what you separatists might term 'allied' in general tone (zone chat is a sewer, one to be profoundly avoided whenever you're not looking for a flame war.)

there are multiple fleets (all with thier own channels) devoted to LGBT members, and most of them don't show a need to fortify against harsh words by being exclusive or operating under the assumption that everyone who isn't should be avoided.

(you gave it away with the term 'Safe Space', by the way, because on the whole, the STO community is VERY 'safe' for LGBT, some of the best and most successful members and fleets are openly L/G/B/T, including some of the best people for organizing).

I ask, 'what is it you are trying to accomplish' with this? further balkanization of the playerbase?

First, It is an interfleet chat so not bound by one fleet. Second, me and many of my friends have been harassed many times here in STO, so you my friend have no idea what you are talking about. Third, why bother trolling this post if for no other reason to harass the TRIBBLE community like the others. So please go troll somewhere else, don't join the chat and don't worry about it. Oh, by the way, if someone wants to make a "Straight White Male" chat group, guess what they can, because it is a free country. Go bother someone else!

Well, I am a male to female transgirl, and I am pansexual.....though 90% of the time, I lean to girls, be it cis or trans. For the past 5 years, I practically been married to a lovely girl named Latoya, who herself is a full on TRIBBLE.

And given how I don't, and never have, looked, sounded or acted like a guy, living as a girl is only natural for me. ~shrugs~

Well, I did run into some rather toxic folks in STO chat...mostly in ESD and Risa (in the summer)

I'm sorry...but no. I don't know of a single trans person who would be okay with using the G word as an incompassing term for them. Hell even lesbians generally have an issue with that practice as it is a term used in a deragitory manner for ages against them. And unlike the homosexual males, the term has not be "reclaim" on the female side and as such is actually quite offensive when used towards them. Bi people as well...although male ones not so much as female ones have issues with that as well. So no, just no. Way to offend the LBT of the LGBT community off the bat.

And this is before we go into how bad of an idea echo chambers are at all. The others breeds hate. Getting to know people is what stops hate. Seperating yourself does nothing but produce more hate as you are now more of an other who stays over there on your own. Talking with other people in a polite and respectful manner...even if they do not is how you stop hate and make the unreasonable people look...well unreasonable. But shutting yourself off, all you are doing is giving more fuel to the hate mongers as you just gave them a reason to be suspecious.

Finally, if a user is specifically harassing you, there is this option called mute. In cases of extreme harassment you can even report them.

Your opinion, but the topic was just to invite to a chat not have a political discussion. Stop trolling the post with off topic comments! Thanks!

To be fair, ESD is toxic to EVERYONE. It has no bias...ESD zone chat hates you all equally.

    Quite.

This is the exact reason why we need a safe place to chat. No one cares what you think about a word our comminty uses. I am in the community and the word is used as a generalization for the LGBT+ community. Fact, not opinion, and I love when people think they know what or how a word is used when they do not have a reference or experience. Look up the definition of the word. It means TRIBBLE men and women, it means homosexual, which means somewho who likes the same sex, aka not heterosexual. Please learn the truth before you use your biased opinions as facts.

Brushing off opinons of MANY other people...not just my own because you don't like it does not speak well for you at all. A small change to the name is all you need and you want to be unreasonable and use the G word...a word that is censored by the game devs no less. Yeah...that is a totally reasonable reaction to a concern. You do realize that what you just posted is leading me to believe that those "harassment" is not really harassment and more the problem being YOU at this point...right?

And trolling?!? Yeah...you ain't seen trolling from me yet. This is me being polite because this is an actually important issue for me. And QUITE on topic as your entire premise was about the LGBT+ community that you basically offended a rather large chunk of. And when pointed out the problems, not by one, but two forumites, your reply is that we are trolls and off topic when neither of that was true.

Oh and you have ZERO authority to tell another formite what and where they can post or not. That is the job of the forum moderators...not YOU. If you don't want hear replies to what you post...DON'T POST. This is a discussion forum...EVERYTHING you say is open for discussion. Learn to discuss things...or don't bother posting in a discussion forum.

Finally, your channel uses a censored word...anyone can report that and you can expect your channel to either require a name change or be shut down. So have fun with that mess too, And no I am not gonna report it...but you have been warned how much a terrible idea this is...on so many levels. So if you wish to continue, don't blame anyone but yourself.

Thanks for your opinion, which no one asked for! Invite to a chat not an opinion post. You are right, you can say what you want and then I can deem it as trolling. This and your comments are the very reason why we need a safe place to discuss STO things and not have to deal with people who think they know what our lives and community is like. I have flagged you for trolling. I hope you learn one day that your opnion is only warranted when asked, which it wasn't. Don't worry about my stuff and worry about your own. You might think you were being helpful, but you weren't.

What makes you think that I am not in the community? Did I say I was or wasn't at any point? That is a rather bold claim that your experience in the community is all that matters...and anyone else's be damned. Maybe you should learn the difference between opinion and FACTS. I said the term used that way was offensive to people I know. That is an opinion...one that EVERYONE can have. One that can be different than what YOU have. You have zero right to say that the term used in your manner is not offensive to other people. They can or can not be as they choose. You do not get to choose for them. It is NOT a fact that the term is used universally in that way in the community. It is an OPIONION of yours that it fine. I have shown you 100% that opinion is wrong as no...it is NOT OKAY. You can still do it if you want...but I find it offensive...and so do many other I know as well. So yeah, you are being a jerk and being offensive at this point. YOU are harassing other people for not sharing the same opinion as you. And you complained that somebody harasses you...yeah...no. Way to show off how you are just the same of those other jerks. Yep...way to go there.

Flagged for name calling! Good one, true colors you are showing. Go troll somewhere else, before you get banned!

I ain't getting banned for this. I have said WAY worse and I am still here, I am usually the resident forum jerk...but in this case, I went out of my way to be polite and respectful as like I said, this is an important issue for me. You on the other hand have been nothing but a disrespectful jerk who is completely dismissive of what other think. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that what you think and feel is so imporant that me calling you a jerk for acting like one is more important than ANYTHING else. Such self entitlment is why there are people who get made at the various social justice groups. And quite frankly, what you have shown here shows me that those anti social justice people maybe right at this point. You ain't the only one...but seriously, people like you makes the right look less and less insane and the left completely crazy. I have christian right wing crazies who apologized for less than what you just did. You still play the offended card...even after being the one who spewed offensive words. I mean, you wanna keep going and make breitbart look reasonable by comparison? Oh and yeah...I'm done being polite to you at this point.

Yep there you go admitting you are the Forum "Bad Word." OMG you wound me! Then go away and stop trolling my post! Please again tell me about MY community and how sick I am for being TRIBBLE and that it is a sin and what not. You are the reason some people in my community don't feel safe in these types of games. Please show your true colors. Don't be polite, as you say, which I disagree. I didn't ask if you liked the name or asked for your permission. It is that simple. If the name is so bad then why is it the second letter in LGBT+. You are clueless, go look up the term. It has many meanings, one being a generalization for all homosexuals. People can be offended by it, it doesn't mean it isn't used properly. I find the word "moist" offensive but I am not yelling at someone for using it. You can go troll someone else, because I won't put up with it. I will not back down to people like you with your harassment, no matter the form. It wasn't an opinion post but you think it was. I never asked if the name was ok, nor do I feel the need to. You think your opinion is so important that you have to share with everyone. I am sad to say it doesn't. You might want to get a life and stop posting so many mean comments in the forums and look at your own life and determine what is wrong and find your happiness. Because, to me, you seem to be very unhappy, of course I could be wrong. I am always willing to admit when I am wrong, but on my post and my chat title I am not. Have a good night and hope you can find joy and love for all people and yourself in your heart!!!
